In my opinion Mickey Thomas has one the best underrated voices in rock!
I agree. He's the counterpart to Ann Wilson. The best two voices in rock.
Mickey Thomas is rarely mentioned in the "greatest of all time" discussions, but he is right there with the best of the best. Not just in the studio either. You can find live versions and he absolutely nails it. Legend.
@chriscraftguy agreed...and Steve Perry!
to those in the know this guy has always been top tier OG
The most impressive part is that he sounds exactly the same live.
Jane was released in 1979 and 44 years later it's still fire. Mickey Thomas's voice is simply incredible, such a great song.
Their guitarist is really great on this song also.
I’ve loved this tune since first hearing it in 1979 England as a 14 year old , still played regularly in my house .
I just absolutely love this! Always have done.
@@chrisoakley5830 Craig Chaquico; fully agreed. He stepped-up to the plate and knocked it right out the ballpark!!
still fire..I learned his name today and inspired for decades💪🩷🔥🚀🩷
This is the most criminally underrated and under-listened-to Jefferson-anything song of all of them. So glad you listened to it.
And Mickey Thomas. That vocal range is just insane. He's hardly even trying
One of my favorites of their entire catalog
Yeah it's a very well done song. Held up really well over time. Highly underrated.
1000% agreed on all counts!!
It's a tragedy!
J O - Exactly, he doesn't even have to try!
What a voice on Mickey Thomas! Also loved his vocals on Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love".
EXACTLY!!! So Micky was a backup singer for Elvin and Elvin decided that his gravelly voice just didn't work on that song and put Micky out front. History was made! If The Squad hasn't listened to THAT yet, it needs to go to the front of the line pronto!!
Exactly!
They have reacted to it.
@@brucedillinger9448 But , I still don't think they have made the connection...
Wow never knew he was on that song!
One of the most criminally underrated lead guitars on this song. Craig Chaquico absolutely shreds and pushes this song to the next level.
I love the Rif on this song!
It is really one of those perfect solos. So great.
Another criminally underrated guitar solo is "Save Your Love"; almost 2:30 minutes of amazing playing.
that guitar outro is criminally too short
this song is pure songwriting perfection...
Love this one
"Find your way Back" is also fantastic
Yes!
Fact check true.
My fav growing up but i think Jane has taken over the lead spot as an adult !
Definitely!
"Lay it on the Line"
This is one of the best rock songs ever!
Jefferson Airplane is more psychedelic, Jefferson Starship is more classic rock and Starship is more pop. I like all three. And yes MT is a monster vocalist
Mickey Thomas was simply an outstanding vocalist and often overlooked during his run. "Miracles" is still one of my all-time favorites from them.
Miracles is Marty Balin another one of their greats!
@@tlang9476Marty had a solo hit in 1980 with a song called Hearts that was really good.
Same.
Mickey Thomas is a phenomenal vocalist and powers up to the upper register and doesn't usually sing in falsetto. Pure vocal talent...
Micky Thomas, singing his ass off, he also sang for Elvin Bishop and the song, Fooled around and fell in love, absolutely incredible
The drummer is Aynsley Dunbar, one of the greatest rock drummers in history. He was also the drummer for Journey for a number of years.
I think what everyone needs to acknowledge first off when it comes to Jefferson Starship is Mickey Thomas’ amazing vocals. He is one of the most underrated yet one of the all time great rock and roll lead singers. His range is ridiculous and right up there with the best of the best. He sang on the Elvin Bishop song “Fooled around and fell in love” and nobody really ever acknowledged it was him or put two and two together to say “Hey! Isn’t that the guy from Jefferson Starship?” Give this man credit - he is probably one of the top 3 greatest lead singers of all time.
He's definitely way up there.
They say the music you hear when you're 12-13 imprints on you. This song proves it. I was 12 1/2 when it came out. It's in my DNA.
I'm so glad you guys finally reacted to Jane! What a killer song! 🔥 The amazing Mickey Thomas sang lead on this one. You guys also experienced his incredible vocals on the Elvin Bishop track "Fooled Around And Fell In Love", which you reacted to in December 2021.
Man, this was a favorite back in the day. Jefferson Starship never rocked harder than on this track. Classic.
LOL, apparently you’ve never heard the rest of the Freedom at Point Zero album! The title song, and “Rock Music” take it up another notch!
Thats because it was 70s
Go listen to ride the tiger and get back to me.
Mickey Thomas is one of the most talented singers in rock, and is criminally overlooked.
He deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Steve Perry.
The best combo ... basically he's Steve Perry meets Brad Delp meets Lou Graham
The musicianship is incredible! Power of the groove, awesome guitar, incredible vocals, not falsetto!
"It's Not Enough", "Find Your Way Back", "Stranger", and "Winds Of Change are well worth a reaction too. Mick and Slick ❤️👌 perfect vocals!!!!!!
Find your way BACK :)
Stranger and Winds of Change. 2 favorites
"Ride The Tiger" is pretty good too and Amber would love "Sara"
Stranger is good one
stranger is a great tune, total rocker!
This tune brought a 1960s band back mainstream with a vengeance .
Late 70s GOLD
“Find Your Way Back” “ No Way Out” and “Familiar Stranger” are more Jefferson Starship 🔥 with Mickey Thomas on vocals
I can remember hearing this on the radio for the first time. I was blown away. The vocals, the guitar solo, the drive of it. That's rock n roll, baby! Unforgettable.
This song has one of the best build ups to a guitar solo ever , especially the 'grunt' sound Mickey Thomas makes at the start
Everybody keep getting the word out about Mickey Thomas! That guy had and still has some of the greatest pipes on him! He can SANG!!!
This was the sound of the late 70s AMBER.
Finally a "Jane" reaction! This song does rock! I think your next one should be "No Way Out."
Agreed. And "Stranger".
It always slightly disapoints me when a 'first hear' is a song other than this one (Jane). But it's probably for the best - after doing 'Jane' most others, IMHO, can only be a slight downgrade. Great reaction, though Jay and Amber!
This one is the BANGER! Full intensity rock. Kinda pop-predictable, but it delivers on all counts. Mickey Thomas is incredible.
That is a fair critique indeed, it is Pop all the way, with a couple of flashes of the old "Airplane" allowed to slip out.
My absolute favorite Jefferson Starship song ever! My mom hated when my dad would play this because he had an ex-girlfriend named Jane, but that didn't stop me from loving it! I knew y'all would love the rocking keyboards and vocals, and I'm so glad you've finally added this to your repertoire! I will say that "White Rabbit" is definitely my favorite Jefferson Airplane song too, so I'm totally on both of your sides tonight.
The lead singer on this song also sang the lead on Elvin Bishop's Fooled Around and Fell in Love.
I agree with everyone on Mickey Thomas vocals! One of the all time classic groups! Great music that never dies! Jane is another’70s classic!
You bet ya 70s kicked butt
@@theodoreritola7641 I thoroughly agree and I miss the 1970s.
This song and Hold the line By TOTO 1978 SOUND A LIKE
Mickey Thomas, one of the best vocalists ever. He sang Elvin Bishop's "Fooled around and fell in love".
JAY this is 70s Rock that you dont care much about lol
I walked into the gas station with my not yet 2-year-old daughter one day when this tune came on the system. She said, "Mama, there's Jane" and started rockin' out. The guy behind the counter saw her, cranked it up and was jammin' with us. She told him, "Mama likes Jane." He replied, "I think You like Jane."
Aynsley Dunbar is a monster drummer !!!
He had left Journey just prior to playing on this album
A great rocker from Jefferson Starship. Mickey is an incredible singer.
Craig Chaquico is one of the best hard rock guitar players of all time. He can be flashy when he wants to be but he can also play just the perfect note at the perfect time - Billy Gibbons would be proud. His solo and fill work on this song are great. But then listen to how smooth he plays all the way through Runaway. Fantastic!
Started as a back up singer to ole Elvin Bishop that shore can play. His “ Fooled around and fell in love” Perfection. In a blue Jean jumpsuit!
By far my favorite Jefferson Starship song! Piano and guitar solo, giddy up!
70s Jane kicks butt on 80s We built this city NOT EAVEN CLOSE LOL
Love all the vocalists of all 3 incarnations!
But Mickey Thomas is my fave! ❤
Unfortunately I only saw them once in concert (1981), but it turns out that this was when the band had a mix of original members (Paul Kantor, Grace Slick) plus new ones (Mickey Thomas). It was one hell of a show. This was my second concert and ties for second with ABBA among my list of best concerts ever.
"Find your way back" by Jefferson Starship is also a banger! good keyboards
YEp keep em in the 70s PLEEEEEASE LOL
I think you will like their song, Stranger, which was released in 1980, with Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick on lead vocals. Rediscovered it myself a couple of years ago. The video was in heavy rotation in the early days of MTV. The guitar solo is fantastic.
Definitely a forgotten hit.💯
The best!
Jane 1979 / Hold the Line Toto 1978 .I LIKE A LITLLE 70s rock my self
This was 1979 though
This song just kicks!!! I agree, always my favorite Jefferson Starship tune. I love the drums, the screaming guitar, the keyboards and the vocals. Just a killer tune, timeless!!!
One of my favorite songs to play on guitar. I love playing the solo! This is one of those tunes that just makes me feel good!
Thats the 70s 4 ya ,
One of the best albums ever in my opinion but so overlooked by many.
Alright my babies.... I was fortunate to see Starship twice, and Mickey Thomas solo once. This group has decades of great songs. 💯🔥🎼🎶🎹🎸🥁🎤😎👍🏼
I was blown away the first time I heard this song. Jane and Miracles are my favorite Jefferson (insert flying mode here) songs!
"It's Not Enough" is another great song of theirs. Mickey Thomas's vocals are stratospheric.
You beat me to the punch "It's Not Enough" such a fantastic song, and Mickey's vocals are outstanding
Also Sarah, if they haven't done that one yet...Sarah is a great song
@@allenwhitmer8192 They have done Sara. They've also done "Miracles", "We Built This City", "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", as well as "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love" from their Airplane days.
Jay & Amber, you'll love Jefferson Starship's "Count On Me" and "Play On Love" !!!!.
Jefferson Starship was the best of the 3 iterations of this band IMO. Craig Chaquico did lead guitar on "Jane"!
edit - the two songs I suggested have Marty Balin on lead vocals, who sang "Miracles" which you reacted to 2 months ago.
This and "Find Your Way Back" were their best songs as JS.
Also "Stranger".
THIS WHY THE 70s rocked
❤❤ great song My personal favorite 💞
One of the best Starship tunes imo. Great reaction as always from you two.
When it comes to Rock with an attitude, it's really hard to top this
tune. An all time gem..💎....
He knew...
It was the piano that takes this song from good to next level. It highlights the syncopated guitar chunk.
And the vocals riding on top of it all.
I absolutely love watching you 2 jam out and enjoy these older genres of music..the looks on your faces and the chair dancing makes me smile. Thank you for your enthusiasm and enjoyment in your reactions😊
My favorite song from them
"The Girl With The Hungry Eye's" My favorite for Starship! Rock on.
A while back, you reacted to "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" by Elvin Bishop...... Same Vocalist, Mickey Thomas as this song. He is nothing short of amazing!
Try “Find Your Way Back” next. “Jane” was my introduction to all iterations of the band when it came out in 7th grade. I promptly spent the next several years digesting all their music prior.
"Winds of Change" is also a really good underrated song by them.
Mickey Thomas was recruited for Jefferson Starship because of the singing he did for Elvin Bishop..."Fooled Around And Fell In Love" back in 1976...he was the perfect fit for JS after Marty Balin left.
I blew out 3 pairs of speakers in my truck because of this song. I'm 62 so I was a young guy then. Thanks for all y'alls hard work. Love from Southeast Texas
This is an iconic song for Jefferson Starship!!!
Love this. Mickey Thomas’ vocals are perfect.
Love that you're giving props to the drummer: Aynsley Dunbar who has played with everyone from Journey to Zappa to Whitesnake to Jefferson Starship. Dude is a legend.
This guy has an amazing voice ❤pure power.❤
Mickey Thomas' REALLY high notes weren't falsetto here -- that's his straight up, natural "throat voice". And this song was their 1st single released with the "Jefferson Starship" band name. After years of no real hits, this reignited their careers.
The first Jefferson Starship album was released in 74, this was the early 80's.
@@baird5776mullet
Actually. this album's from 1979.
@@laustcawz2089 You're right, missed 1980 by 2 months of it's release.
1975's Red Octopus was the second official album released by Jefferson Starship and Marty Balin returned to the band full time for it (the first was DragonFly with a Balin Penned and sung tune on it also)These were followed by Spitfire, and Earth. All FOUR albums went Platinum while the Mickey Thomas premier album Freedom at Point Zero only went Gold. 🤨 while Thomas may have a good voice, his talents aren't as good as Balin's IMHO.
@@schuck6566 I agree, Marty was a genius.
I mentioned Jane many times. Glad you listened 😉. This is my fave JS song and probably their most rockin. Stranger is another song that again is different than this but features how good the vocals are between Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick.
Absolutely fire for sure, Jay . As many have said in the comments, Mickey Thomas is singing his head off. One of the all-time best R&R vocalists.
I want to recommend a song to y'all -- while listening to my playlist today during yard work, I came across a jamming song similar to Jane.
Satisfied -- by Richard Marx. I haven't seen many reactions to Marx. He is known mostly for his love songs and ballads, but he has a few pop-rock songs that are very good. And a couple of his slow songs are good, too. My favorite slow one is Endless Summer Nights. Beautiful melody. Romantic lyrics.
Nice reaction, Find Your Way Back, Stranger, Winds of Change are great songs and rocking!
This is by far my favorite song by Jefferson Starship. Having been a keyboardist for ? years, they are great here, but just filling in for the greatness around them. The timing is perfect here. It's just fire from top to bottom. ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥 ✌
'Jane' is my favorite tune by these guys, such a solid riff to drive it. I'm going to try and steer you two over to an awesome band you've never listened too. 'Lighthouse', not to be confused with 'Edison Lighthouse'. I know you'll like 'One Fine Morning' by Lighthouse just as much as you liked this song. It's as fire as it gets. A bit like a up tempo Blood Sweat & Tears or Chicago tune what with the Horns, Vocal harmonies and general funkiness of the song.
Cheers.
For sure! One Fine Day is an awesome rockin song with great instrumentals!!
I have their greatest hits c.d. every song is absolutely amazing. Rock on Jefferson starship. Love you guys so much. God bless you for all the amazing music. 💯✌️👏😎💥👍
Jefferson Starship rocks on the song Runaway and Find your way back to a heart ❤️❤️
Jay, that's not falsetto that Mickey Thomas is doing; he is an incredibly gifted singer and that is a belt mixed with some head voice that is just perfect and so resonant. And he does it over and over and it just blows my mind every time. I loved White Rabbit when it came out when I was a tiny kid, and I still do today, and then I associated it more with the hippie stuff from the late 60s, but then by the time this came out I was in junior high and I couldn't believe what I was hearing between the banging piano and the rock guitar, and so I learned how to play that piano part immediately, which isn't all that difficult.
It took me until years later after playing and singing in bands to realize what Mickey Thomas is doing there vocally, and that to me is the primary reason that I can listen to this song absolutely over and over and over again, just to hear him do that stuff.
And the overall arrangement of it is fantastic the way it builds up and then hands it off to the guitar and then the guitar builds up to that high crescendo and then hands it back over to Mickey on the vocals, it's just phenomenal.
Amber, I have one from slightly before this that I bet you will love. It's called Runaway. It was a hit on the radio and it's right up your alley.
Next to "Miracles," this is my favorite Jefferson Starship song. Mickey Thomas killed this song, and I mean that in the best way possible!!
they reacted to Miracles already, see it here - ruclips.net/video/6KSPPXWlKkQ/видео.html
Marty Balin sang Miracles
@@robbiemcclure5000 I know. I was referring to Jane.
@@surlechapeau My bad thought you were referring to the song you mentioned.
@@robbiemcclure5000 no problem.
This is one of those songs that cannot be played loud enough, a great jam.
70s jam tastes so GOOOOD
In my humble opinion I agree with you two The most rockin Starship song.
This entire album is worth the time to listen!
1 of the best live acts I've ever seen especially during the mid-70's.
"Ride the Tiger" is another of their "kick you in the ass" tunes.
Craig Chaquico wrote the guitar and I believe bass parts for this song. He started recording with them as a teenager and they glued facial hair on him so he could play in clubs(underage). He also helped write, find your way back. He writes jazz new age stuff now that he's older, and it's also very good.
By far one of my favorite all time songs !!! 😃
That riff gets me every time! Great reaction
I love this song 💕🎶 so HARD - thanks for reacting.
Wife here.., You Guys hit this from the jump..They are ever changing their Names and Band members..., My Husband and I met one of the current members a couple years ago..Looove all their music..!!..This is definitely one of my favorite 's...MS Amber THIS IS THE MOST ROCKING SONG...However all their sounds are AMAZING..Miss Grace Slick..An OG female Rocker.!!🤘💯
I freakin' love this song. The guitar is incredible in this song. All of it, the tone, the riff, the ripping solo. Great vocal too. And big fat drums.
This song is such a jam... It never ever gets old.
Jay and Amber - I think you'd really enjoy "Ride the TIger" with Paul Kanter on lead vocals, released in 1974 about the time they were transitioning from Jeffereson Airplane to Jefferson Starship. The sound and guitar work is incredible, and reminiscent of the early 70s sound.
The lead singer (Mickey Thomas) is the guy who sang the lead on Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell In Love".
thats not even a falsetto, thats his normal sing voice
I can definitely tell Jay is a wrestling fan. He mentioned Sting (the wrestler) in a reaction and now they're doing "Freshly Squeezed" Orange Cassidy's entrance theme. Great stuff as always y'all.
Which video was the Sting reference in?
Idk,maybe he meant Sting who's a singer
@@AscendedXSaiyan It was in their reaction to Fields of Gold right at the first.
THANK YOU!!!!! I absolutely love watching you experience good rock songs for the first time! It brings it back for those of us who are old enough to have heard this on records/radio when we were kids. It gets me listening for more layers, anything I missed before. It's a whole new experience somehow. Thank you for sharing with all of us!!
Seventies' radio magic. It was such a great time to be alive.
Saw them in early 2019. He can still sing.
80s EAT YOUR HEART OUT 1979 ROOOOCKED ...
This is Orange Cassidy’s walkout music in AEW for wrestling. If you aren’t into wrestling it would be cool to see you react to his entrance!
"Find Your Way Back" is the sister song to this one. Same era of Jefferson Starship.
Find Your Way Back is another hard rockin banger of theirs. You will love it just as much!
My very favorite song by them. The vocals have the same vibe as Kiss I WAS MADE FOR LOVING YOU ❤️ 😍
It’s not so much that we know you two so well that we know what you will like, and that’s what we suggest. It’s really about what WE LOVED to listen to when these songs came out on the radio. Radio DJ’s back then we’re Very in touch with their audience. And we, as listeners, had tremendous power back then, which we don’t have anymore. We could call the radio station and tell them what we wanted to hear. When a DJ would play something for the first time, people could call and request it again. And again. And again! We got great music because we had that relationship with the DJ’s….we don’t have that anymore. And so these decisions are being made FOR us now! Plus, record labels INVESTED in great bands over the long term. It cost them a lot to do that. They don’t invest like they used to.
Why most new music is reductive and uninspired!
My husband heard me listening to this and he is now right by my side all in. 😂 cracking me up. This was the theme song to the Net Flix series One Hot Summer. He has loved this song since then . He said it is on his play list. Great choice today.💖
"Jane" holds it's own up against any other rock jam from any era.
FROM the 70s 1979
Great song! Jay, you will like their song Stranger- the bass line rocks
