Thanks for the video. One thing I hear a lot of reviewers saying a-lot is “no one asked for a thinner iPad”. Everyone did ask for a lighter iPad. If you have 13 inche ipad you cannot subtract material from the length and width. So naturally, it has to come from the depth which results in a thinner iPad. Basically the slimness is a byproduct of trying to lose weight.
Completely agree. Probably the only thing I’m really not happy about is that Apple forces you to buy way more storage than needed to get nano texture screens. There is no reason the nano texture cannot be on the lower storage units. If Apple had not taken this route, I would have likely upgraded my M1 12.9 iPad to the newer M4 13’ with the same storage level.

Great, honest review! ❤ I'm trying to get the 11 inch too. Yeah, I just got back from the Apple store yesterday and saw them in person. Everyone says the OLED display is so noticeable, but I completely forgot about it when I was there and couldn't tell a difference, honestly. Not saying they aren't great displays, but for me, the fact that I just remembered the new Pros have OLED and it didn't stand out enough for me to remember while I was there says something. I would say the size and thinness are way more noticeable. But yeah, for me, I completely forgot about the new OLED displays 😂 on the Pros. Also, the Apple Pencil Pro wasn't that impressive, and I had a hard time activating the new touch features on the pencil body.
Most people won't be using it on a magic keyboard. It's a tablet. Not a laptop. You want a keyboard? Get a laptop, much more functionality and easier to move around "on your lap."
I'd like to see the survey you did amongst iPad Pro users to come to that conclusion. At least you educated us on the origin of the term laptop. Where would we be without your guidance 🫡
Where did you get the cover of the back of your iPad, looks amazing! The iPad Pro 13 M4 brings the cable and the brick for charging, also I put my iPad on a cover right away.
I am tempted to switch to the 11 inch just because of the better screen that is previously not available on the smaller model. I have a m1 12.9 inch now do you think it’s worth the upgrade ?
I was sad there were no stickers. The charging brick is a UK thing. I received a charging brick with mine. I ordered all the same hardware you did. I totally agree about the thickness and the battery life. I installed the ESR screen protector. They have a great paper like protector. It is rougher than PaperLike, but a lot cheaper. I really like all the upgrades due to my old iPad Pro was two generations old. This is a huge upgrade for me. I truly notice the speed difference and how well the videos play now. I am glad I went with the new keyboard, pencil, and especially the 11” iPad Pro. Thanks for the video.
what is it with people wanting stickers? I don’t get it, you already have a Apple logo on the device… do you want stickers for your fridge or bathroom mirror?? People who don’t use them throw them out and it ends up in landfill, degrading in hundreds of years or being ingested by wildlife, choking them.
Your argument for why the keyboard isn’t backwards compatible is incorrect. As you know the iPad Air does support the old Magic Keyboard and the NEW Apple Pencil Pro, all while having a landscape camera. The reason the new Magic Keyboard is exclusive to the new Pro is because of weight distribution. It was designed to carry the new, lighter iPad Pro, which allowed them to change the angles a bit in order to get the extra space for the bigger trackpad and the function keys without the iPad neither covering them nor tipping over when touched while connected.
It’s probably thinner due to the removal of the lights that illuminated the old display, as it isn’t needed with OLED… I got mine yesterday and I was stunned to see how thin the iPad Pro 11” model is. I bought the Apple Pencil Pro too even though I hate writing on the glass screen, but can’t make up my mind on whether to get the keyboard case or not…. It’s a lot of extra money for what it is. 🏴
What do you think of its weight and size in comparison to the iPad mini? I’m in the middle of getting one or the other based on mobility/weight without the Magic Keyboard.
It's an entirely different experience. I find the 11" too big for things like reading. The mini is still the only real tablet for me. The other ones are best paired with a keyboard.
@@PatrickRamblesYeah but you can’t read it in sunlight, so I have a Kindle for that. It will be interesting to see if the new M4 iPad 11” will be readable in sunlight outside due to its 1000nits
Got mine coming today!! Great review bro! 👊🏻 I saw another channel do a bend test on the M4 versus the M2 and I feel pretty confident it ain’t going to get bent 😂 It took A LOT to bend it and even then it was not hugely noticeable. They seem to have really addressed bend-gate.
I am considering getting the 11inch model. I would make full use of its power for video editing. My only concern is with PWM. Flickering from OLED screen affects my eyes. In saying that I have the iPhone 14 Pro Max and above 30% brightness I don’t really notice it due to DCI dimming. Do think the same applies to this iPad?
I’ve never had the 11” before. I’ve either had the 13” or the mini and was never really satisfied with either. The 13” is nice when stationary but heavy to carry when on the go or when on the couch and too big when you’re not multitasking. The mini was light and easy to carry but not enough screen real estate. Maybe the 11” will be the sweet spot. Granted the fomo of the 13” gets me lol.
Hi Patrick, I just watched this video on my brand new 11 inch M4 iPad Pro and I love this thing. I think I’m going back to using an iPad instead of a MacBook touchscreens are so much easier for me as a person with a disability and I figure if I need a keyboard, someday I will maybe look into the magic keyboard, but I like the portability and probably need the portability of the iPad and it’s ecosystem
I still have the m1 model cuz the ipads from the previous years are the exact same just like their iphones, if the bezels were smaller maybe i consider upgrading
HI Patrick I ve got an iPad Pro M1 12,9; an iPad mini 6 and i m wondering to replace my pro by an 11 pro M4 But what about the mini ? Do you think it ll be necessary if I go from iPad Pro 12,9 to iPad 11? I know you were a fan of iPad mini 6 What s about you? Eric (south of France)
I got my 11" Black M4 Pro yesterday with the new keyboard and pen. I really like it. 2 comments: 1) Everyone talks about how thin and light it is. Yes, it is thin, but I don't think it is that much lighter, especially with the aluminum Magic Keyboard attached. Still lighter than my laptop, but I guess I expected a bigger difference based on the reviews so far. Still, I can lug this on my vacations and it is exactly what I wanted for lighter photography trips. 2) The OLED glossy screen is simply amazing, especially at peak brightness settings. I watched a baseball game on it last night on Apple TV+ and then your You Tube video today, and it is the best screen I have ever had. My own photos also pop, especially the blacks. So glad I got the Pro version just for the OLED display. Thanks for the review. One of the best out there IMHO. :)
The regulators forced the switch on the theory that you shouldn't need a different charger and cable for each device: you can use one you already have. And in 2023, the EU criticized Apple for limiting the speed of non-Apple-certified chargers. Why not use an excuse to save money? Americans expect a charger. Europeans insist they don't need one.
Just give me an iPad mini 7 with A18 pro, 120hz, landscape camera and thinner bezels. Had my 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch since launch. Never really used it fully as a laptop replacement and with work giving me a MacBook Air and an iPad Pro M2 11 inch, it’s almost redundant.
@@moonbaby6134depends… I have both the iPad Pro 11” and the Mini 6 and I almost never use the Mini, I still love it though because it’s cute and I’m still trying to find a compelling reason to use it. I prefer to read books on my Kindle because it’s softer on my eyes and you can read it outside in the sunlight. The Mini’s screen size is too constrained to be practical and the attached keyboard to the iPad Pro 11” is so much more usable. I did buy a mini keyboard for my Mini but it is impossible to touch type on it.
Thank you! I’ve watched dozens of videos now, no one was unboxing and comparing the 11 inch iPad till you did. Disappointed to see trackpad basically the same size on the 11 inch keyboard. That would’ve weighted heavily on my decision to get it. I might still go for it for the screen. We got shived with an inferior screen with M2 iPad Pro 11 inch.
I assume one can’t now charge via the hinge? The screen protector you mention - I assume the screen isn’t reflective on the iPad so is thew protector “shiny”?
@@PatrickRambles Thanks. It's nice to know if I do upgrade to the M iPad 11" I can give my current keyboard to my wife for her iPad Air. Thanks for this tip.
Hey Patrick, good video! Might make me upgrade from M1 because of the screen tech. I have 3 questions: (1) why did you buy the smallest format of the 2? (2) what impacted your color choice ? (3) if you connect a Magic Keyboard has it a significant impact on the battery life of the iPad?
13" is too large for traveling. Might as well take my MacBook air. I picked space black because I like it and the silver is getting old. I'm sure the keyboard will eat some of the battery life but I can't say it's noticeable.
Will the casing in space grey is softer than in silver? I got a MacBook Pro in space grey in 2020 model. That casing is soft and easily got dented. My old MacBook Air in silver is much tougher. No scratches and dents even without any protective cover on it.
Be warned, if you purchase the 11’ Pro, then wish to return it for something bigger, the trade-in value is zero. Purchased mine in August, went to check the price difference moving to the 13” only to find out my 2 month old iPad has no value whatsoever.
Yeah I'm not a big fan of those bend test RUclipsrs! 😢 I just think it's such a waste to break new technology for views! 😞 It's so wasteful to me and it doesn't show any talent or appreciation for tech in my eyes.
I have mixed feelings. I agree with you but I do appreciate ONE bend test to see whether we should worry. I don't need to see 100 of them though or silly drop tests from 5 floor buildings. Or that incredibly annoying "iPad in a Mouse case" crap. Hate those.
@@PatrickRambles Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. It's just really painful and cringe-worthy for me to watch good technology go to waste. I was raised not to waste anything. 🙏🏻❤️ I love technology as much as you do, and I just think it's not worth it. 👍🏻
Does this have the same external dimensions as the iPad 9th gen? Like, the screen viewing area must be obviously bigger, but because the 9th gen had a smaller visibility area due to the in box design, do they measure up to the same external body measurement? I’m asking before I’m seeking to upgrade my 9th gen iPad, so I wanna know if the 11 inch will take up the same space as the 10.2 inch one?
Waiting for my 11 inch iPad Pro m4 and the accessories I got . I got the screen protector and same cases you showed from ESR; I am afraid it will take sometime to arrive to Costa Rica 🇨🇷 though .
Thanks for the review, in my own opinion, i don't think the changes is huge apart from the chip, memory and the pencil aside from that, the OS is still not that big of a deal and not even close to being a mac os at least, but maybe i am wrong, maybe apple are preparing for something that will change that and will only be available for the current ipad pros. I do like the new ipad it's powerful and the features for the pen but i guess i might as well hold on to my m1 until i see an os change.

The air has it all… old keyboard support, new camera placement and old and new both pencil support. Clearly they switched the magnets and more so put a software lock. Plus they want to make the iPad os more mac like and in order to do that they need the escape key to work like on macOS… no reason to upgrade for sure as the honeymoon period will be only a day. Will keep my m1 iPad Pro for another year if all that OS support is continued even for M1 owners
It depends what you're looking for I'd say. My magic keyboard is absolutely fantastic and looks amazing, though if you don't care about looks, and just want value, id go for the Logitech combo touch as it has all the features of the magic keyboard and more, and is £40-80 less
@@fatwombat1 that is a significant factor, and it was the factor which made me buy the magic keyboard. In terms of materials, the Logitech is miles better. The black magic keyboard picks up finger grease like nothing else in this world, and while the white keyboard does hold up better, once it is dirty, it is basically unclean- able from what ive heard. The logitech has this fabric on the back which is a lot better at staying clean. Id say the differences are large and for each usecase it would be different. Id say get the logitech if youre more into art, with the improved range of motion for drawing on, or if you would be typing on it more, then get the magic keyboard. Edit: i completely forgot to mention how the logitech is a case, with a detachable keyboard, but the magic keyboard is only 1 part, so you either have the keyboard, and the lackluster protection it provides, or you have neither. This is clearly a pro for the logitech, since the case not only provides better protection, but it can also still provide that protection when the keyboard is detached
I used to have an iPad Pro several years ago but it broke because it bent. Why they made it thinner, I don't know. Who asked for a thinner ipad? I'd rather have a strong frame and durability with longer battery life than to have a thinner ipad.

Got same iPad and only regret was not get the 13” as I did not think it be such a great display to game on, would be great if they made TVs, it’s no competition display wise and what’s more funny it actually runs remote play better than Ps portable which is impressive itself. Not used iPad in a few years but was nice to see torrent was a simple thing as well, the pencil is cool but I draw stickmen (that part for my daughter being quite an artist for her age). I’m not a pro pro user but no regret beside not go for larger one, but it’s totally fine, just surprised me how well gaming was vs earlier ones (or other displays) which is great as a gamer relax on sofa or in bed. Price is steep as the big downside, but plan to use it years ahead anyways. Thanks for video and your views. 🤘🏼
Remote play is actually great, runs better on anything better than the psp and that’s not hate I love my psp, and they’re getting better with the updates, but for some reason when i use remote play on MacBook or something else there is no lag at all.
@@lukekaps it is kinda bizarre how Sony could fail their own product like this, not tried on MacBook like you have so if it’s similiar it’s impressive. Been using S95B/S90C in general for gaming and can say latency is weirdly just as low and that on WiFi and crisper display one can’t find. I would love a bigger display from Apple made for gaming but with competitive prices of course but that would just be a dream as it’s the Apple tax. 🤣 Nice to hear it works that well on a MacBook too, which MacBook you using?
@@Cruelladevil79 yea that’s crazy you say that because I was going to get the s90c but I went with Sony a75L and it’s great but not the spectacle they make it to be I was using a $500 Samsung for years it was amazing, I got Sony on Black Friday & I gave the Samsung to someone because it’s still an amazing tv. As far as MacBook I have 16 inch 2023 m2. While using the Mac app games on it like Death Stranding, resident evil that are also on ps5 makes the MacBook heat up so fast and so hot that I have to stop because I feel like it’s hurting the battery and computer. But if I use remote play there is absolutely no issue doesn’t even get slightly warm for hours because it’s just mirroring the ps5 and not using all the strength from Mac to power game.
@@lukekaps You got a great tv there too, S90C better for games but motion/processing better on the Sony overall though a downside is not able turn off asbl which should be a option and not service menu thing, but it’s not so bad on your model. Tv and series watching Sony better and don’t mess up firmware as fast as Samsung. Samsung are top tier TVs but it’s all about firmwares on every model except Q9FN which is only tv that survived (2018) in 10 years (beside removing dts after first 3-4 months and never returned). When these TVs are calibrated they look amazing, LG is behind I think as QD-Oled proven to have little burn in (my S95B had over 13000 hours before giving it too my brother and looked like day 1 so was heavily used, most used tv I ever had). I agree cheap Samsung TVs can look ok too, bought a BU8005 for my mum as she not as picky but I was surprised how well it looked for the price. My brother also got my Q9FN and since it’s no broken local dimming (just lack earc/hdmi 2.1) and it would still be the better tv than the new ones, quite ahead of its time but shows its good to have space to fill tech into the tv which can’t be said with newer models. Cool to hear the MacBook play games so good, then I don’t see much downside having one vs a windows one as it play lots of great games, so not as scary as one can hear in this aspect🤘🏻 You enjoy the tv there, it should last you well some years and no need to babysit like other Oleds. 👌🏻 You have a nice weekend there 😊

I really like all the upgrades due to my old iPad Pro was two generations old. This is a huge upgrade for me. I truly notice the speed difference and how well the videos play now. I am glad I went with the new keyboard, pencil, and especially the 11” iPad Pro. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Steve! I'm not in the UK but I think it's a European thing in general.
@@PatrickRambles I knew that, so sorry. Not sure why I typed that out.
what is it with people wanting stickers?
That makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
@@PatrickRambles Thanks for the insight, I was really hoping the pro would be a good substitute but it looks like I might be going the mini route.
@@PatrickRamblesYeah but you can’t read it in sunlight, so I have a Kindle for that. It will be interesting to see if the new M4 iPad 11” will be readable in sunlight outside due to its 1000nits
For me personally 1000 nits is still too dim outside.
Great video! I was looking forward to it.
Will it replace your iPad mini 6 now that it’s lighter and thinner than the previous PRO? 😎
Nope! :)
Got mine coming today!! Great review bro! 👊🏻
I saw another channel do a bend test on the M4 versus the M2 and I feel pretty confident it ain’t going to get bent 😂
It took A LOT to bend it and even then it was not hugely noticeable. They seem to have really addressed bend-gate.
I will check it out!
@@PatrickRambles it was AppleTrack who did it mate
Maybe 50 years from now we'll be getting just a piece of glass
What is the yellow, red, orange skin on the back of the iPad?
It's made by Dbrand
Are you gonna review the new iPad Air M2?
Not sure. Should I?
@@PatrickRambles I would love to see your review and takes of the new Air models :DD
You're one of my favorite tech RUclipsrs!❤
❤️
Cool thing to know previous gen iPad (i have M2 iPad pro) when shutdown / booted in landscape also shows the apple logo in landscape.
You even did a JerryRigEverything reference! 😂😂😂
How much do you love the 11”??? It’s the perfect size.
That's what she said
I’ve never had the 11” before.
Mini is king. Give me a mini pro and I'm sold.
I'm glad it's working for you! It Definitely is a nice device!
Been waiting for this
I still have the m1 model cuz the ipads from the previous years are the exact same just like their iphones, if the bezels were smaller maybe i consider upgrading
The ESR screen protector doesn't have the 2024 version from the link you provided, does make any difference between sizes?
I plan on trading in my M1 12.9” pro for the M4 13” iPad Pro …CAN’T WAIT!!!
How much they gave u ?
HI Patrick
I ve got an iPad Pro M1 12,9; an iPad mini 6 and i m wondering to replace my pro by an 11 pro M4
But what about the mini ?
Do you think it ll be necessary if I go from iPad Pro 12,9 to iPad 11?
I know you were a fan of iPad mini 6
What s about you?
Eric (south of France)
Hi Eric, I'm probably very biased towards the mini. I would rather give up my other iPads :)
I got my 11" Black M4 Pro yesterday with the new keyboard and pen. I really like it. 2 comments:
1) Everyone talks about how thin and light it is.
Hi
From where is beautiful color back cover of the iPad? The cover with the orange red yellow colors
Hey! It's a skin by Dbrand.
I got a brick for mine here in the US.
I know this is a crazy thought, I was really hoping the "Pro" would turn into the MAC pad. I think it would make sense now with the M4.
In terms of hardware I think it could have been done earlier. Apple doesn't want to do this.
its never going to happen, apple says just go buy an MacBook 🤣
I suspect the EU version doesn't come with a charger because the EU forced Apple to adopt USB C.
What, as in revenge? Doubt that 😅
The regulators forced the switch on the theory that you shouldn't need a different charger and cable for each device: you can use one you already have. And in 2023, the EU criticized Apple for limiting the speed of non-Apple-certified chargers. Why not use an excuse to save money? Americans expect a charger. Europeans insist they don't need one.
Interesting, my new M4 iPad Pro did come with a charging brick.
You in the US?
@@PatrickRambles yes I am.
@MichaelBrandvold it might be due to EU Regulations on e-waste.
@@PatrickRambles could be. I thought Apple did away with the bricks everywhere. My iPhone 14 didn’t come with one. Oh well no complaints.
Agreed.
@@PatrickRambles your iPad mini 6 video from a while back made me realise that for probably 90% of users, the mini is the perfect form for a tablet.
Hello! Can you share where you got your yellow and orange skin from for the older iPad?Love it!
It's from Dbrand :)
@@FreshmenSniper yeah it has been for some time. Absolute shame.
The screen really is nice.
Thanks for the review - always appreciated. Great video and look forward to the future content with TechBHD (hopefully got that right!).
TechPHD - it does sound like I said BhD doesn’t it 😅
Yes, really enjoyed the ESR commercial.
Hope you enjoy your free content too.
I assume one can’t now charge via the hinge? The screen protector you mention - I assume the screen isn’t reflective on the iPad so is thew protector “shiny”?
Yes you can still charge via the hinge. The screen protector on the video is tempered glass, which is smooth, yes.
@@PatrickRambles Thanks. It's nice to know if I do upgrade to the M iPad 11" I can give my current keyboard to my wife for her iPad Air. Thanks for this tip.
Hey Patrick, good video! Might make me upgrade from M1 because of the screen tech.
I have 3 questions:
(1) why did you buy the smallest format of the 2?
I don't think the color plays a part in this. Apple is constantly making their tech lighter and thinner. Perhaps at the detriment of the durability?
Be warned, if you purchase the 11’ Pro, then wish to return it for something bigger, the trade-in value is zero. Purchased mine in August, went to check the price difference moving to the 13” only to find out my 2 month old iPad has no value whatsoever.
My 1TB M4 came with a 20w charging brick
You bought this in Europe or somewhere else?
@@rewanji not in Europe since we don’t get it here.
@@rewanjino I got it in Florida USA
So everyone with the M1 iPad Air should pass on these.
We do have the brick here in Australia.
Thanks Patrick but what is Aluminum?
Assuming you’re Dutch, I am guessing you prefer aluminium. Since I cater mainly to a US audience, I will pronounce it accordingly.
Thanks for another great review Patrick. For me it had to be an either/or decision and I opted for an M3 Pro MBP 14 a short while ago.
Best choice !
Not really, there's an unpachable security flaw in the m1-m3 chips
I’m not going to intentionally try to bend my brand new iPad Pro because “I’m not that rich.” Well said 😂
😅
Does this have the same external dimensions as the iPad 9th gen? Like, the screen viewing area must be obviously bigger, but because the 9th gen had a smaller visibility area due to the in box design, do they measure up to the same external body measurement? I’m asking before I’m seeking to upgrade my 9th gen iPad, so I wanna know if the 11 inch will take up the same space as the 10.2 inch one?
Nope. Same size as the previous 11" iPad Pro.
2:12 except logo on back😂
Haha yes.
Waiting for my 11 inch iPad Pro m4 and the accessories I got . I got the screen protector and same cases you showed from ESR; I am afraid it will take sometime to arrive to Costa Rica 🇨🇷 though .
It's a pain to get stuff shipped there huh?
Thanks for the review, in my own opinion, i don't think the changes is huge apart from the chip, memory and the pencil aside from that, the OS is still not that big of a deal and not even close to being a mac os at least, but maybe i am wrong, maybe apple are preparing for something that will change that and will only be available for the current ipad pros. I do like the new ipad it's powerful and the features for the pen but i guess i might as well hold on to my m1 until i see an os change.
i still love my 699 M1 Macbook Air from Walmart
Prefer a full macbook to a tablet, with a full os. I let my phone do the job of ipad.
Great video, Patrick. Thanks for the info!
Glad it was helpful!

I like your T shirts, where did you find these?
They're merino wool shirts from a local brand called Wolk.
Also allegedly a full fat USB4 40Gbps port…
The air has it all… old keyboard support, new camera placement and old and new both pencil support. Clearly they switched the magnets and more so put a software lock. Plus they want to make the iPad os more mac like and in order to do that they need the escape key to work like on macOS… no reason to upgrade for sure as the honeymoon period will be only a day. Will keep my m1 iPad Pro for another year if all that OS support is continued even for M1 owners
Cool new iPad! Even cooler Subbie on your wrist! Looking awesome, my dude!
Thanks man!
Is the keyboard worth it ?
It’s very nice but nothing spectacular. But if you get the M4 it’s the only one that fits.
It depends what you're looking for I'd say. My magic keyboard is absolutely fantastic and looks amazing, though if you don't care about looks, and just want value, id go for the Logitech combo touch as it has all the features of the magic keyboard and more, and is £40-80 less
@@0utrightI had to return my Logitech Combo because its kickstand made it impossible to sit it on your lap.
Thinner = Lighter. I want the lightest iPad possible.
A quarter pound make a surprising difference.
That's what she said.
why is my 13 inch iPad Pro able to fit into my 12.9 case? I’m lost????
The display is larger, the actual iPad isn't.
I used to have an iPad Pro several years ago but it broke because it bent. Why they made it thinner, I don't know. Who asked for a thinner ipad? I'd rather have a strong frame and durability with longer battery life than to have a thinner ipad.
Not a apple fan but enjoy your videos. From South Africa
Thanks man !
Would you consider giving a way the black usb c cable? I have been on the hunt for a black version of the Apple white usb c cable and have found nothing. Love your videos!
I'm in Belgium. Shipping would cost more than the cable 😅
@@PatrickRambles so true! Thank you for considering it though! :)
Nice to hear it works that well on a MacBook too, which MacBook you using?
Cool to hear the MacBook play games so good, then I don’t see much downside having one vs a windows one as it play lots of great games, so not as scary as one can hear in this aspect🤘🏻
You enjoy the tv there, it should last you well some years and no need to babysit like other Oleds. 👌🏻
You have a nice weekend there 😊
The 2024 iPad Pro M4 is out. This is the 13" model. It has a gorgeous display and a powerful M4 chip. But you probably shouldn't buy it (with rare exceptions).
