I went through school K-12 with Rocky. We were friends and I heard him sing informally many times and in Chorus daily. One of my favorite memories is little 8 year old Rocky standing to sing the 12 days of Christmas in 4th grade and the entire audience being stunned by that little boy's voice. Love you Rocky, Elaine ( Class of '69)
I remember Rockwell Blake while we both attended Peru Central High School and we’re members of the school band, orchestra and chorus…it was all too apparent that he would go on to display his amazing tenor voice. An incredibly talented and gifted man indeed.
Rockwell Blake is truly missed in the theaters. That one peculiar - almost weird - voice, that magical instrument, so easy to criticize. We should just appreciate what Mr. Blake has been able to give to opera during his career. Wish I could hear/meet him once in my life! He unluckily retired slightly too early for me 😔

Sguaiato no suvvia, blake ha tanta tanta voce che non siamo abituati a sentire coi rossiniani odierni e anche taluni del passato. Coniugare una voce cristallina e potente con una eleganza che indubbiamente queste pagine belcantistiche richiedono non è cosa facile. Però oh, punti l'attenzione sull'' emissione, è incredibile, la voce è incollata all'appoggio di fiato e schizza in maschera con una fluidità che è davvero unica. Diciamo che Rocky è un caso unico a sé stante. Lui conosce se stesso e il suo strumento e si, gigioneggiava con questi fiati lunghissimi e queste note acute tenute all'infinito che concordo sul fatto rappresentino a volte più una performance circense che operistica. Io la vedo che un Rockwell blake ci sta nella storia del canto, un altro non credo che lo sentiremo. Saluti
@@Ilvermibaleno qui stona spesso anche a causa si un bruttissimo e larghissimo vibrato. Ugo benelli ha meno voce e meno tecnica ma è molto più intonato e molto più in stile
@@fredsik alright ill come back and revise my statement. 99% of this singing is wholly wonderful, gorgeous timbre that shows his ability to pull it back when he wants to. I wish there could be a little more consistency with the dynamic changes, the section before the cabaletta is a little dynamically all over the place. I am frustrated with the quick runs before the final cadences, he speeds up a lot and the coloratura is very choppy i.e. not legato. But I was wrong for doubting him.
@@dylanschang6386 One could say he's not for everyone's tastes, which I agree with wholeheartedly. The things you point out are also worth bringing up. Just not a fan of tens of thousands of hours of hard work getting shrugged away like that. There's too much nitpicking and bad faith in the opera community.
