- Grey Owl, or Archie Belaney, lived in a small cabin in Riding Mountain National Park for 6 months in 1931. We decided to finally make a pilgrimage to visit the place, and have an overnight camp in the backcountry at Lake Cowan. Who did we meet along the way? Find out!

Wow amazing the place friend, very beautiful, thanks for sharing
Big like 👍
Beautiful park thanks for showing us around
Lovely video Donna, NOT counting that massive tick... (I got goosebumbps just watching it, haha..) Apart from that, what a smashing place, really beautiful, and I love you always remember to take some close ups of flowers and other nice details along the way. Many thanks for another terrific video Donna.
Best regards,
Thomas
Awesome trip, Donna. Looked like you had to deal with a lot on this trip. Ticks, bugs, bears, adds to the adventure. Glad you were able to have a safe trip. Looked like a nice area to explore and camp. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Have a great day.
Your footage was simply outstanding! Greetings and best wishes from Canada!❤❤✅✅🍁🍁
Love to see the wildflowers and butterflies/moths on the trail. Great narration and captions. That is great news to me how long it takes to transmit lyme disease. Mosquitos and bears - wow. Cool cabin. Cheers to you and like to the video
Glad you were able to hear/read the section about the ticks - I boosted the sound but after uploading it that section was so quiet. Thanks so much for watching!
nice place my friend
good video❤
Thanks for visiting
Lovely hike I like nature the cabin in the wood look for 100 years old plus the lake near by it must be peaceful to live there hunting mushroom and fishing not sure about the mud nest in the house? Hope you have a great day out Donna ❤ 25:26 full view
AWESOME!💜💙
This is a really great job!👍
Thank you!🇧🇷
What an amazing adventure Donna, so beautiful. I loved the bear sighting... and the cabin was amazing and yes, I imagine what it must have been like back in the day, occupied with a warm fire and the view over the pond was so lovely too! I can't blame you for not taking your lens cap off, the night sounds were so amazing.
Thanks so much, Nicole! This was really a memorable trip. We will have to make an effort to visit Grey Owl's other cabin, hopefully next year.
Gracias 😊
Nice video awesome ❤❤
Thank you!
Now that's definitely roughing it, such a nice isolated camping spot, except for the giant brown bear on the tree😂😂 I had two deer ticks on me once, got bit a couple times, i was tested for Lyme disease and had the markers, had to take antibiotics 😫 Thanks for sharing Donna, we hope you both have a wonderful weekend 😀
The bear was a bit scary, although I think he was pretty young and just having a good time foraging, likely for ants and bugs. We kind of felt bad afterwards for scaring him off, especially given how he looked kind of sad in the tree. Yeah, Lyme disease and all those other tick-borne illnesses freak me out, as do ticks in general. Hope you two have a great weekend as well!
Absolutely amazing footage of Riding Mountain National Park. It was a very special experience to encounter a bear ! Thank you for giving us a very exciting virtual tour. Have a wonderful weekend 😀
Thank you so much! It really was a memorable hike.
What a beautiful national park!
Thank you, Mircea!
It's a wonderful forest. Nature is very beautiful.
have a nice day
Thank you, Jijitabi-san!
Thank you so much for letting me hike with you.
Meeting bears in the forest is definitely a very special experience.
You sit at this hut and look at the lake. It radiates so much calm and yet energy. It really must be a heavenly place.
Warm greetings!
Thanks so much, Anita! The cabin really was peaceful and it was great to see a bit of Canada's history. The bear was a very neat experience in retrospect but at the time I felt pretty frightened!
Thank you for sharing the beautiful natural images of the national park
Thanks for visiting
I'm so happy today because I really enjoyed watching this amazing episode fulltime my new friend @Donna's Adventures ❤❤❤
The cabin looks so pretty, very natural looking. Can’t believe you met bear, you are so brave camping there. But love this fabulous forest, the birds chirping so great❤️👍👍
Beautiful day to drive and hike. Mesmerizing nature. Lush green and lovely flower.
Old fashioned water pump. The cabin is perfect hiding away from the bear. Birds chirrrrrrps
What a beautiful national park! Canada truly is so amazing. How amazing to encounter a hear and capture this amazing moment on camera!! Absolutely stunning trees and paths. Such a nice cabin too! Thanks for bringing us along 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching!
We enjoyed the hike in Riding Mountain National Park with you, Donna and Lyndon. Beautiful area with gorgeous wildflowers. My first thought when you had seen the tail end of the bear is that's better than the front end. Especially when they don't run away right off! 🤣🤣Also wise not to eat the mosquitos too, Lyndon! Enjoyed seeing Grey Owls cabin. He lived there with his wife and two beavers? Interesting seeing all the info on his life there on the walls. Must have been a peaceful and interesting time. Thanks so much for bringing us along.
It was really great to see Grey Owl's cabin and create our own adventure along the way. I still feel a bit itchy remembering all those mosquitos. Thanks so much for watching!
A very interesting hike Donna. I did not know about Grey Owl and looked him up. Now I understand about the beavers living with them as I found that to be very strange. I also enjoyed the views of the visiting bear and wildflowers along the way. So glad you got the ticks - frightening little insects that can do so much damage. Thanks for the hike and great glimpse into your and Lyndon's trip. Best regards, Cathy
Thanks so much, Cathy! I really dislike ticks and they're an unfortunate part of living in the prairies. I worry their range will expand to where we live someday.
It definitely sounds a bit odd to raise beavers but they helped Grey Owl change to conservation and push his message forward. His efforts also helped establish a number of our National parks across Canada. Have a great day!
Yay. I am first here. Watching now
Beautiful drive
It was a fantastic adventure.
It certainly was!
Big thumbs up for this Donna. What an amazing adventure. The bear up the tree is so cool, although I can imagine the possible danger here.
The sounds at night are incredible.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us all 🙂💞
It was definitely exciting seeing the bear, just glad he was wise enough to head off. Thank you so much, Mick!
@@DonnaTaibossigai Think I'd be doing the same Donna 😁💞
Beautiful thanks for sharing sister God bless you
Hi Donna 👋 !! Thanks, I enjoyed this full account of your adventure 👍 !! An excellent hike, camp and visit to the cabin ✅ !! Very beautiful woodland full of ticks & bears 🐻, most eventually 👩🏼🤝👨🏻🏕️🌲! Filming with the lens cap on, with good sounds to record is a neat technique 😊🎥 🎶 🐦 ! Best wishes, cheers, Don 🙋♂️ !
Hi Don! Thanks so much for the lovely comment - very true, I should have said I left the cap on intentionally! Lol, it definitely got the focus on sound instead. It really was a great and memorable trip. Have a great day!
Beautiful and wonderful video, good luck and lasting success, God willing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

An awe-inspiring hike with wonderous finds all along the way. That was an exciting - and yes, why do we speak to them that way? Loved the humor and insights. The sounds of the Loons was wonderful. Thank you for taking us along with you Donna.

Świetne video 😊Pozdrawiamy serdecznie 😊
👍 Wonderful trip 🎊🎊🎊 20:50 ❤
Nice very nice💐 🙋🙋🙋🙋
Thank you so much
Your bear sketch in the guest book is so cute. Very scary because of the presence of bears near the tent. And the discovery of a 100-year-old cabin made of wood is very interesting. A very exciting trip. Thanks for sharing the video. 1 LIKE from Singapore.
Thank you so much, Cheiko! The bear was a bit scary, but we kind of felt bad for having to scare him away afterwards. This was really a great trip. Have a great weekend!
Nice roadtrid its good weather for mountain hike
Awesome 👍👍👍
How beautiful. Amazing of nature. Tranquil atmosphere. Very nice camp and walk too. The bear wow. Nice cabin. Stay safe friend.
Beautiful environment have a good day
Hello good afternoon 🙏🤗🇮🇩 Beautiful garden charming
Oh Boy ticks and mosquitoes!! Never fun! I just had a Lyme tick on me today!! WOW a BEAR!! I have never seen one! I like the drive to your camp sight!! WHat a great adventure you had!!
Ick, I absolutely can't stand ticks! And the ones on the east coast have a lot of other diseases to worry about, too. Bears are so awesome to see but I feel much safer in a vehicle! Have a great day, Brenda!
@@DonnaTaibossigai oh ya I can understand why.
Such a great adventure, pretty wildflowers,, I enjoyed it
Thank you for sharing dear🙏🏾🤗💚
Glad you enjoyed it, Martha!
Nice walk in the National Park
Beautiful hiking. Thanks for sharing. Happy Sunday 👍
Thank you! You too!
That’s a long drive to get there. I love the straw flowers lining the trail. Beautiful flowers in the wooded area. Bear encounter?? It would be cool to see but far away! Hope you had a great time camping. 👍😊🇨🇦

Hi Donna! Wow, a real encounter with a bear. Very exciting. The bear really didn't want to walk away though - it took a lot of persuasion! The night sounds were very poignant and cool. It was certainly a very dark night, lol! It was such a lovely adventure and we're very glad you shared it with us all ❤
So great adventure! Warm regards from Palma de Mallorca!
Thanks for watching!
I like your video very much. Great landscapes and beautiful nature. Great shots. Wonderful hiking tour. Well done.👌👍

Thanks
A fun video, thanks for taking us along for the journey. Looks a great hike and an interesting one too. Great video.
Thanks for watching, it was definitely memorable!
Great adventure! I hadn’t learned about Grey Owl or his cabin before, so thanks for sharing! I didn’t know about Riding Mountain NP either… so I learned a lot! Quite exciting to see a bear on the trail and one so close to your camp! Nice that it finally moved away and you could enjoy the rest of the night. Not fun to have ticks around, or that many mosquitos either… I hope you didn’t eat too many, lol. I see I have nothing to complain about 😄👍👍
After posting this I've realized how few people know about Grey Owl - I guess he's more remembered by Canadians and British people. The bear encounter was neat and I was glad it had a good ending. The mosquitos took us by surprise, they really were bad out there but I think that's the usual for that area of Canada! Have a great day, Jennifer!
Very beautiful park
Thanks for visiting
beautiful view
Thanks for visiting
Videos that provide a lot of knowledge and are useful..I really like them..always successful and I'm waiting for the next video..
❤❤❤
Glad to hear that
👍Your video always includes close observation of nature and detailed information about plants and animals. I can see so many mosquitos attacking you and your camera. Ticks and bears are the last things to encounter outdoors. Glad you kept them away. I enjoyed watching your video. Thanks a lot for sharing. 💕🌺🍀🇨🇦
That's a gorgeous place but whoh that bear up the tree it made me laugh when you said it was not English speaking ! You are brave in your country dealing with these. The cabin was great to see and looked really peaceful :) ~ Anna
I have to admit after we scared it off I had to stop myself from suggesting we pack our stuff up and hike back! The cabin was really great to see and it was lovely getting to be there by ourselves for a few minutes. Have a great weekend, Anna!
so cool place to visit, enjoy the hike
Thanks
very nice place. Great video. Keep it up. Nice sharing
Thanks
It's been a long time 🙏
I was even more fascinated by the wonderful video of walking in beautiful nature while enjoying the clean air and scenery🙏🇯🇵🤝🇨🇦
Ongoing 🙏❤️🔔 I'm looking forward to your continued success 🙏👍🎉💐
looks like an amazing park. Lot count how many time i have forgotten to remove the lens cap :-) brilliant video
It was great to hear loons. I also do mistakes in a haste when I see something quickly moving and exciting. It's great you managed to remove ticks. Wonderful adventure 👍
Wow Donna what a camping trip, capturing that bear was amazing and you were ready with that bear spray! Ooo 😖 ticks we have recently had nasty encounters with these they are quite prevalent in North Yorkshire! We tick buddied each other and found 4-5 a piece on each of us 😳 you always capture wildlife beautifully, loving the fog affect! Too many bugs for us on this adventure, one of our hates of summer hiking! Extra calories for that 🦟🤣 The cabin was lovely for its age although not sure about rustic facilities! Shame the hike back was un eventful but great hike!! Have a great week ❤️
That's one thing I disliked about living in southern Manitoba was the ticks - I think it instilled a fear of walking out anywhere. I'm glad they're not around here and hopefully it stays that way! The hike back was powered by my energy bar - suddenly I was able to just motor through the bush and had to keep stopping for Lyndon. If I could only have that energy all the time! Hope you two are having a great week!
Trekking in Riding Mountain National Park. Encounter bears and hike to Lake Cowan. The hut where the beaver lived is interesting.
I enjoyed watching it (^^♪
Uğurlar arzulayıram 👍👈
Thank you!
Ok, not sure if we can sleep in a tent in bear country. Really enjoyed your trip. You did a great job at story telling
It's not for the faint of heart for sure. When I first called out I could hear the bushes crashing about and I was worried it was a moose. We felt a little guilty for disturbing the young bear from his foraging afterwards...like the next day afterwards. Thanks so much for watching!
สนุกมากเพื่อน ขอให้เป็นวันที่ดี Follow the next episode 💯
It is much appreciated!
I was surprised! I wonder if that bear was up in the tree observing you guys. A little scary, but a wonderful experience.
I think I might have scared it up there when I called out, or when we were struggling to get the tent open. Very glad it turned out ok. Have a great day, Ramujiro!
Not to up close if you're a dentist! 🤣🤣
Very true!
wow this is great really enjoyed watching it new sub here
greetings from Bhutan
Thanks and welcome
Would love to visit this place in person.
Video tuyệt vời ❤🎉
It was really great seeing that young black bear. Well seemed to be quite a hike to get to Grey Owl's cabin, but well worth the effort. Did it say if he had built the cabin? Just wondering. Thank you, Donna, it was really fun to be able to see inside of the cabin.
Joan.
Hi Joan! I think both of his cabins were supplied by Parks Canada as part of the hiring deal. This cabin was a decent hike but not too long. The one at Prince Albert is a longer hike, or you can travel by canoe or kayak. The bear encounter was exciting, and honestly we kind of felt bad afterwards for having to interrupt his foraging.
There seems to be a lot of traders and suchlike from Europe seemed to have jobs that would seem barbaric but then fall in love with the local people/scenery/lifestyle and do a lot of good in the area, in this case the fur trader/conservationist.
I love how casually you mention the bear encounter, if that were me I'd be jumping up and down 😂
Looks like there were a lot of bugs (and a tick) there! Eww tick on the canvas!
Impossible not to be concerned when you hear noises near your tent and omg amazing to see the bear there in the tree 😂 do you have to leave your food elsewhere in case they come to scavenge?
Hahah the loons sounded great but had to Chuckle about the lens cap 😅
What a beautiful morning! Shame about the mosquitoes! Hope it didn't bite Lynden's tongue 😬
The cabins very cool, with a special door and den for the beavers! I've never heard of them being domesticated before.
What a beautiful couple of days in nature, great video ❤
Thanks so much, Matt! This was a really memorable trip. After I filmed the tick, Lyndon did a Tick Flick to get it off the tent.
It was pretty surprising, as we opened the tent, and Lyndon stuck his head out first but didn't see the bear as he didn't have his glasses on. It was pretty funny when I stuck my head out and immediately said OMG there's a bear on the tree!
The beavers definitely made a unique story for Grey Owl, but I guess being raised from when they were kits helped them form a bond.
Have a great day!
Good video . Riding Mountain is so beautiful. Some interesting facts about this area is in the 1920's a Game Warden was murdered. Murderer was never caught. During World War 2 a twin engine aircraft crashed in the South eastern part of park. All were injured but two men headed east and made it to the town of Riding Mountain. It was late evening but the came across an ongoing church service. Authorities were notified and a search party went out and rescued all the military members. All survived. During WW 2 there was a Axis prisoner internment camp west of Lake Audy. Brandon University has a website on there excavation there. Manitoba Historical Society also has info on the crash and murder i believe. Heres another interesting tid bit. In 1974 an uncle and his nepnew observed a Bigfoot in the extreme south western side of the park. Liked and shared.
Wow, that is a lot of fascinating history. It's amazing how many things happen in an area over time. The plane crash deserves a memorial plaque if there isn't one somewhere already. Great stories and thank you so much for watching.
Guten Morgen ❤🎹 freue mich über deinen Besuch und das es dir gefällt 👍 danke für gegenseitige Unterstützung, wünschen dir eine schöne Woche, Anne & Siggi🔔 Abofreund 🔔
A bear up close, I think I will Sh** my pants, I have never even seen a bear so in my mind they are these big bad animals.Otherwise a billiant road trip, something I`d love to do any day.thanks for sharing.
