Wow, what a breathtaking video. I really appreciate it that you took time to show us the actual wildlife, cuz most of the videos online are about the beach / what to eat/ where to stay, it's of course very important but the nature is why people are going there. Can't wait to go there with my family this year.
Thank you!! I appreciate that. Yes, I've always gone there to see the wildlife and as well to get inspiration for my paintings. The park has so much fantastic wildlife to see if you take the time to search for them. And springtime is great because you'll be able to see quite a few bears and hopefully some with a couple of little cubs. Hope you enjoy your trip and that you get a chance to see some great wildlife!
@@JosephKoensgen thanks, as a new Canadian resident I'm not sure if I want to see the bears lol, I heard it can be not safe. How do you keep safe out there?
Most of the Black Bear sightings I've had in the park have been from the car where they are in the ditches beside the road or at the tree line - especially when the dandelions are blooming. So in that case stay in the car and give them plenty of space. Usually about 30 - 50 meters is good. When you're on the trails, making a bit of noise as you walk is a good idea so that they can hear you coming - talking and occasional hand claps is what I've done. And when I've encountered bears on the trail they have always run away from me, but it's also good to make yourself look big and make more noise if they don't leave right away. Carrying bear spray is also an option, but do a bit of research about that first. I would also recommend stopping in at the visitors centre and talking to the parks staff about wildlife. They are very helpful and happy to give you more info on safe wildlife viewing!
Wow! Wonderful video, thank you for posting these Joe - it must have been an incredible experience. I love the way the bears slurp up those dandelions and those cub sightings were amazing.
Great video!! We are planning a trip there but won't have a car. We are planning on camping there and will have our ebikes. Are we able to ride our ebikes around riding national park? Is there any trails that you recommend taking? Thanks for sharing!! Melissa
Thank you!! I can definitely recommend trails. Some of my favourites are the Kinosao, Grey Owl, and the trails on the North Escarpment. Something a bit further out would be the Grasshopper Valley Trail, which is very nice and probably ok for your ebikes, but might be difficult to get to if you don't have a car. There's some paved paths in Wasagaming where you can probably ride. A trail that's close to the town and probably bike friendly, would be the South Lake Trail. Really nice views along the south shore of Clear Lake. As well, something I'd recommend is going to the visitor centre and talking to the Parks Canada staff to find out where you can take your ebikes. They have great info and have always been very knowledgeable and friendly any time I've wanted to know something. Hopefully that helps, and I hope you enjoy your visit! It's a great park!!
Thank you! The best times are in the spring and fall when the park is less busy. And usually along hwy 10, or the road to Lake Audy are good. Takes quite a bit of patience, but it's always worth the effort!
