    At this altitude, he can try to re-open his wing and fold his reserve. Maybe enough time to drink a good black coffee.

    This is the perspective my buddies must have had when I took the InCross120 "quick" descent. Took well over 10mins and quite some drift under my way too large reserve till arrival at the ground. I pulled the reserve at cloud base after a nasty wing collapse and didn't even try to undo the mess. Maybe I should have given it at least a few attempts. 😅

    • @SkyMaxOne
      @SkyMaxOne  2 месяца назад

      If not cascading into a spiral, and there is plenty of altitude, why not to attempt to fix it? Spirals can be deadly at any altitude, so throw early if there is no quick exit.

    • @suesun7072
      @suesun7072 2 месяца назад +1

      @@SkyMaxOne It was my first big and sudden collapse. Before realizing what happened 3/4 of the wing crumbled. No direct spiral but I got scared and panicked. Today I would handle it more focused and most of all, I won't scream like a hysterical teenager before the reserve was out and open! 🙄 It all happened slightly below 4000m in the Alps, so I had somewhat around 2300 to go. Under a reserve which could have carried 1.5 x my weight. The InCross100 had been a solid fit already.

      You gain confidence pretty quick, you feel yourself being pulled up when you launch. I started paragliding and paramotoring 3 years ago to overcome a fear of heights.

  • @jakesimmons1846
    @jakesimmons1846 5 месяцев назад

    New to paragliding here. How did you all get so high up? Did you jump from a plane or are thermals really that powerful in certain areas?

    • @SkyMaxOne
      @SkyMaxOne  5 месяцев назад +2

      Paragliders are not designed to open at velocity. We launch off a mountain and use ridge lift and thermals to go up. In thermal lift you can climb all the way to the cloudbase

    • @OffSurfaceAdventures
      @OffSurfaceAdventures 4 месяца назад +2

      If the cloud base is high enough you can fly up to the air space limit at your location. In same areas this is beyond 4000 m. Or over 3000 m above the ground.
      In the summer most strong thermals reach from ground all the way up to the clouds. If you are lucky you can get one at 400 m and 7 minutes later you are at 3000 m.

    The inflatable wing concept certainly "looks cool and convenient"; however it ultimately turns out to be a very risky endeavor.
    Know that paragliding requires one fourth the skill and four times the judgement of hang gliding.
    The lack of an airframe means that a paraglider offers zero crash protection during an accident.

    • @SkyMaxOne
      @SkyMaxOne  4 месяца назад +4

      It's not like safety record of hang gliding is any better than paragliding. Different aircrafts, different issues. It all comes down to the pilot and training.
