6 yrs ago those screws were $4. Now that box of washer head screws runs $20. Absolute waste of money to buy Kreg screws. Get Spax, GRK, or any other. A pan head screw works just as well. It is important to note that you should not use flat head screws for pocket hole joinery. Use pan head, fissler head, washer head only.
Great demo, very nicely explained and understood. I bought the tiny version because they are phasing out the K4 jig and not available at stores. K4 is a great jig, compact and accurate. You bought the Kit version with the extras, nice!
Always use wood glue (Titebond II or III) for a strong bond. Screws alone are not as strong as glue and screw.
Tip for viewers: unless you use this daily, take down some notes on how to set up jig and store with the jig. Then glance at them for faster setup. I do this for any complicated tool. The Kreg is easy to use, but... it has to be accurate in settings else you mess up your project. So write down steps once and save time.

I noticed they have 2 different K4 kits - one is K4 pocket hole jig and one is K4 pocket hole jig master system. The master system has the clamp and more accessories. So, you have to be sure which kit you buy.

Just bought the same one about a week ago.
I didn't get the mini pocket joiner..... Would have been handy.

Also the side measurements are in centimetres.. NOT inches.

The pocket holes should be on the outside if you’re joining them the other way you demonstrated. The way you had it, the screws would be pointing towards the end of the board. Not much wood to hold if you do it that way.

Picky me....you say to turn down power on your drill? I know you know, but others may not. The 1-16, typically on a drill driver is actually a clutch setting, whereby the drill reaches a torque level and then ratchet-breaks the driver.

  • @dunrob13

To keep from hurting workpiece use thin scrap between clamp and project works great 👍🇺🇸

  • @gotahave
    @gotahave 6 месяцев назад

I think you might have clamped your work down incorrectly. You should have only clamped the receiver wood not also the ones you pocketed. Because if you made that clamp any tighter it probable would have prevented the pocketed piece to be drawn correctly to the receiver piece. Other than that it was a pretty good demonstration.

    Thanks Clint,
It's funny how you follow a channel for a while and then find a video from almost 3 years ago and the timing is perfect. I've been thinking about KREG for a while now and with all the new ones, how do you choose? Especially when I am on such a tight budget and a DIYer. I like the K5 with the wings :)) not sure of the price difference??? Or if it comes with the clamp? Those alone are $25-30. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and videos Rodney

So I have a project made from older wood, true 2x4 dimensions. Overseas in the sandbox, wasn’t milled to US specs, probably from Europe. Will the 2.5” screws work? Looks like the jig handles up to 1.5” and the drill bit set for the same. Jig width looks like it’s 3.5 wide but as long as I center up the wood then that part should be ok. Old project was nailed and worn out. Trying to put plywood doors on the front of the 42”W x 70”H cabinet that someone hacked together. I took it all apart and since I can’t get other wood I have to reuse it all. Screw and glue it together and maybe I can get the thing square to properly hang the doors. Making furniture from trash...my motto. Lol

You will break the pilot tip of the bit less often if you will have the bit spinning when it touches the wood. Nice review! Too bad that Kreg keeps changing the contents fo the K4 kit - some guys get the hard case but not the small jig, other guys get the dust collector but not the hard case. Lots of kits do not have the clamp. I guess you just have to look carefully at the contents before you buy.

Thanks for your comment and help in decision making process. 👍
I made a mistake in my previous comment. K4 was a Master Kit (comes with manual clamp) , but K5 was not. I spent additional $35 for automatic clamp (great idea) that is almost a must with a Kreg setups. It helps tremendously to keep two boards align and straight. But one could go with any clamp, not necessarily Kreg.
