- Sergei Bobrovsky is an absolute legend who should now be known only as the President's Trophy Slayer. In the last 5 years, there have been 2 first round exits by the Presidents Trophy winners BOTH at the hands of Bobrovsky!
We all saw what happened last night with the Florida Panthers stunning the hockey world by taking down the team with greatest NHL season ever in the Boston Bruins. But this wasn’t Bobs first rodeo. In 2019, the Tampa Bay Lightning were the hottest team the league had seen in years. They became just the 2nd team in NHL history to win 62 games that season tying the all time record and were the run away cup favourite going into the playoffs. Of course they were, They had who was the 2019 Vezina winner in Vasilevskiy and the 2019 Hart winner in Kucherov both on their team going into the playoffs and yet, they couldn’t get a single win in the playoffs that year. After going up 3-0 in the first game, they would end up loosing 4-3 and from that point on, as Sergei Bobrovksy stopped 100 out of 105 shots the rest of the series and averaged a ridiculous .952 SV% from there on out as they swept the Lightning in 4.
Now that he backstopped his team to another first round finish by beating the Bruins, I believe he should be known only as THE President's Trophy Slayer. Just having some fun in todays NHL hockey video. Thanks for watching!

It'd be funny if he did slay his own President's Trophy winning team, but he was the best Panther that series. He posted a .919 SV% and only gave up six even-strength goals in four games.
The Panthers lost because they only scored three goals.

As the NY Rangers and other teams have proven , you can have all the talent you want, but it's the collective will of the players to win that matters most . The Flyers never had that team chemistry either, and I think that's why Sergei moved on .
I'd say this guy is a legend for playing a part in taking down Boston. I've heard Boston was one of the better teams this year.

Not to take away any thunder from Bobrovsky doing amazing job, however I think Grubauer did a great job last night too! This years Stanley Cup playoffs is a crazy one but wow I'm really enjoying it!!
Panthers all of a sudden are terrifying. I feel bad for the Leafs. That must be intimidating to have to face the giant slayers. Panthers are the perfect playoff team really. Dirty, gritty, skilled, and a great goalie.

Don’t put too much emphasis on the GAA in a 6-7 game series, it’s the timely saves at critical moment that really counts; in the seven games, Florida only out scored Boston by ONE goal, it was Bobrovsky kept making critical saves at crucial moments, that’s the major reason Boston got knocked out. In the other series , Toronto scored only two more goals than Tampa, however, in game 3 and 4, and 6, Toronto goalie kept making big saves after the Leafs fell behind, which gave the team confidence, eventually the talented forwards were able to win a series in almost 20 years!
I was surprised this wasn’t a story line going into the playoffs! Im happy it worked out this way though. With a cup this year Bob is an HOFer

Bob is such a legend, he posted a 3.50 GAA in the series. He wasn't a factor in this series, he just happened to play for both teams.

Bob is such a mystery. Double Vezina winner, double presidents trophy slayer, and yet statistically objectively overpaid and often considered overrated. He is considered overrated so much in fact that he is probably underrated now.
He is, without a doubt, overpaid. And he is also, without a doubt, a legendary goalie. Its a weird thing but I think both can be true in the salary cap era.
Well when he's hot i think he's the best goalie in the league. But when isn't he's pretty average.

These new points and wins records should have an asterisk next to it because of the loser point and shootout wins. I believe if this were pre-current NHL, the Bruins would be sitting at 128 points and 58 wins.

Bobrovsky technically is not a legend if you base his career stats. He is, and has been, a very inconsistent goaltender throughout his career. For starters:
2010-2011: has a good rookie season with the Philadelphia Flyers as backup to Brian Boucher, ultimately taking the 1A role. He lets his guard down in the playoffs, getting pulled 4 times (!) against Boston
2011-2012: Loses the starting role to Ilya Bryzgalov, and then struggles massively as his backup
2012-2013: Traded to Columbus; reignites and leads Columbus on a failed attempt to make the playoffs as a tiebreaker; wins the Vezina nonetheless
2013-2014: Regresses slightly, but is still good enough to lead Columbus to the playoffs
2014-2015: Cold start followed by a white-hot March and April, could not lead Columbus to the playoffs
2015-2016: Misses significant time to injury, struggled when healthy
2016-2017: World-dominating goaltender in first half (Columbus seemed to be on pace to break records), but cooled off in second half; won Vezina
2017-2018: Slight regression; nonetheless still good
2018-2019: Solid season; led league in shutouts; out dueled Vasilevskiy before falling to Boston
2019-2020: Worst season in Florida since 2nd season
2020-2021: Slight improvement; still below average
2021-2022: Appeared to be having a Vezina-calibre season before cold stretches in the second half; nonetheless finishing with his best season since 2017-2018 and getting Florida past Round 1 for the first time since 1996
2022-2023: Highly inconsistent, often poor, play, leading to Alex Lyon being called upon to help Florida make a last push. Struggled to defeat Boston, often needing help from his forwards

This was so much more about boston killing themselves. I feel the goalie didn't save them, neither was he the reason the panthers won the series. It was the the panthers fight after bobrovsky let in the BIG goals. Much more credit needs to be give to Tkachuk lines. The floor check and just the dog this team had in them.
Oh absolutely, this video was mostly light hearted. I’m not making the case that Bobrovsky stole this series or something as he really didn’t haven’t that great of numbers. But the fact that he was the one in net for both of the first round exits of 2 historically great teams is pretty insane to me

Imo the Bruins weren’t actually the best team heading into the playoffs, they just had the highest floor. And they proceeded to land squarely on that floor.
