Wait...where was it implied that Kaz was Big Boss’s lover? Was it from that weird date mini-game where you can invite Miller to the beach like with Paz? I thought that was just a joke thing? Also, if Miller was so intricately involved with Cipher, did he actually feel any remorse for the deaths that happened on MSF when Skull Face attacked? Did he actually feel any anger towards Huey’s betrayal, or was that just a ruse too? Is that why Big Boss betrays Miller and works with Ocelot to create his new nation? Anyway, love your videos! I hope you can do a Q/A video where you can address some of the bigger questions left by the franchise!
Yeah I don´t remember the game ever implying that Kaz was Big Boss´s lover either, unless he means in a metaphorical way maybe? But the reason why Big Boss "betrays" Miller or at the very least uses him, I mean can you really blame him? Kaz is such a manipulator in Peace Walker and even in Phantom Pain, it's no wonder Big Boss doesn't truly trust Kaz that much anymore.
"Think about it seriously, Kaz. It's either women, or it's us." Snake beats the hell out of Kaz, while whipping him, while both of them are naked, basically for two-timing him with all the hottest girls on Mother Base. I get the sense both of them are bisexual. But from what I understand about Japanese culture, you don't really 'come out' like you do in America for the most part. (That's really unfortunate for non-straight Japanese people, who struggle for public social acceptance even in this day and age. Japanese culture empathizes 'harmony' on a group level, all too often at the expense of the individual.) Things in MGS, a pretty bi-leaning series since at least Snake and Raiden's giant asses in MGS2, are kept somewhat ambiguous as a result: on paper, here Snake could just be saying, 'you're either a team player, or you're a womanizer who goes around cheating with various Mother Base members' girlfriends." But that would ignore the extremely sexual (and hilarious) context they have this conversation in. At a minimum, it's slightly S&M-ish, light-hearted sexual punishment. Even putting this stuff in the game (and radio-drama) at all was risky enough, I think Kojima kept it pretty low key to avoid triggering mass hysteria among the more prude players. Just look at some of the comments on this video for example. (Your comment is totally fine, because you're just asking for clarification.) Other people have scoffed and eye-rolled, totally ignoring the following information: You don't just invite Miller and Paz to the Beach, you get into the Love Box with them and start humping, as little hearts come out of the box. (Notice you don't see nearly as many people taking issue with the idea Snake and Paz fooled around. I probably should have added that to the video too, matter of fact!) Sure, this is the same game where a talking cat takes you to an Island of Monsters from Monster Hunter, but nonetheless: it was the pre-AIDS era, post-sexual revolution. Mother Base was full of all sorts of raunchy fun - and all walks of life. (Strangelove with Amanda and Paz anyone?) There are a number of moments in TPP that make way more sense in the context of Snake and Miller having once been lovers - think of how Venom and Kaz almost hold hands at the end of the Sahelanthropus mission, but then Kaz coldly draws away. Think about how vengeful Kaz is, how personally he takes the news, that BB abandoned him and lied to him - that the 'future' they were carving out for/with each other is dead. Here's the sauna tape for reference. In-game, this is only relayed to us second hand by Paz. This is from a canonical radio drama on Peace Walker, the ENG voice actors were nice enough to dub for the fans: ruclips.net/video/BK8FktCxNp8/видео.html Anyway, thanks for your support! A Q and A is a good idea. I have something like that on my Patreon, but doing something for RUclips isn't a bad idea either.

It's weird to me that the game ppl didn't play, is the one they're less-inclined to watch the explanation for? Like many ppl, I didn't really give a shit about Peace Walker because it was on the handheld thing, but that's why I was so hype for this series. It's filling in the blanks. Kind of a grim implication: people seem mostly to want to hear about shit they already know, rather than learning new information. Huge if true.
38:30 This is exactly how the "Tactical Espionage Operations" era of the Hideo Kojima's "Metal Gear" saga (also known as the "Metal Gear Solid V Experience" by only those "good listeners" among its "audience" who checked the back of the "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" disc case while their minds were still looking for the "Truth") began...
I dont know why, but it only just dawned on me that there's a strong possiblity that Liquid assassinated Miller because Liquid knew Miller was a Cipher agent.

13:53 I don't think the "big decision" was arming ZEKE with nukes; It was Snake's decision to reject The Boss and become Big Boss. EVA, later Big Mama, lamented how both Zero and Big Boss misinterpreted The Boss's will (and even Big Boss himself conceded, at the end of MGS4, that he should've put the gun down). EVA's tapes to Big Boss was an early sign of her concerns for him. In the Truth tapes, Ocelot was surprised to learn that EVA agreed to take orders from Zero (albeit, to save Big Boss), so it's implied that, as of 1974, EVA was estranged from Cipher. I doubt EVA deciding to send those tapes had anything to do with Zero wanting MSF to become Cipher's private army.
I'd be interested in one of these videos on MGS Portable Ops as it chronicles the early development of Metal Gears, Naked Snake's transition from military soldier to military leader and the early moves that would lead to the founding of Cipher/the Patriots.
Are you gonna cover the underrated Portable Ops. To anyone who says it's not canon, the MGS4 Database and MGS4 both acknowledge it. Even Peace Walker makes a passing mention. But it is good, even if the gameplay leaves something to be desired.
It's interesting to think of the effect of Paz's betrayal on Big Boss, how he reacted differently than Zero wanted, and to then realize the function of the false Paz memories in TPP. In TPP, it's as tho the betrayal never happened. Venom is meant to be a copy of Big Boss, but an edited copy, one that Zero hopes will be more easily controlled, it seems. That really makes me wonder if Big Boss was ever truly involved in the creation of Venom Snake. I can't see him approving of that.
I don't think BB was involved at all in the creation of Venom, but he knew a good scheme when he saw it and took advantage of it. Especially with how pissed BB was when he found out about the Clone program.
Thanks so much for laying all this out, once again. I especially appreciate the reminder of the romantic subtexts between many of the characters, which gamers prefer to either ignore completely, or pretend is a joke. Great work, Boss.

Just like ur other subscribers have commented ur videos and knowledge of the lore is so fucking cool and enjoy ur videos. your pretty good!
24:15 Remember, Zero gave Big Boss a second snake, Venom. This in my opinion proves that Big Boss ultimately took Ciphers offer and Zero left him alone for it…
Another great break down of the lore. With so many games coming out I wonder which series you will do next. Maybe Assassins Creed or even the crazy world of Borderlands
Holy hell! Konami needs to give the Metal Gear rights to Hideo Kojima so that he can make an origin story Metal Gear game all about The Boss. Her multiple missions and story NEED to be told through her eyes and played by us, the audience.
I enjoyed Peace Walker so much thanks for explaining the story some parts of the story left me confused so that's why I came here lol also I didn't bother to finish the secret ending so that's also one of the reasons why I came here. one more thing: Kaz being Big Boss's lover surprised me. I had no idea that he was his lover it wasn't hinted at or anything.
I finally beat this fucking game last week. I wasted so much time thinking I needed those AI boards to build Zeke. So I kept blowing up the heads of the bosses and maxed my head AI out. That was a wasted week.
If we were to get another non canon game, something good and cohesive (the opposite of Survive), i would like to see what woul've happened if Chico didn't found Paz sabotaging Zeke. Maybe if the day of peace happened, the script would be flipped and Paz would be helping Big Boss and Kaz turning against MSF to keep his dream of a war economy alive.
I remember some digital comics I saw back then of Miller retrofitting MSF into a production plant for MSF branded tortilla chips and other snacks and Big Boss just like "bruh WTF?" But I also believed that if Kaz was given enough time he would have definitely changed MSF into a corporation of consumer goods and with his awareness of information technology dwelled into e-commerce even outshining Jeff Bezos in this day and age and I'm glad too see you also touched that point in the video. Of course the times didn't like it that way and now he's the limp, revenge driven paranoid who constantly yells bitch, bitch, bitch to the rhythm of pop music that we all know but not necessarily love.
Something interesting to note about Ground Zeroes is that a lot of its events are most likely shown from the distorted perspective of Venom Snake due to the hypnagosia Ocelot did to him. So everything is sort of shown as a "flashback" of sorts by Venom a lot later in his life. There's a guy that made an entire video showing proof of this, but to mention everything quickly: 1) In a codec call during GZ, Kaz mentions what Paz said during the start of Peace Walker: " "I only want peace for my country!" Can't believe we ever fell for that...". That is odd considering Kaz knew about that all along, so this contradicts with what he said in Peace Walker. 2) In an interview before Phantom Pain's release, Kojima stated that Big Boss only fell in one coma in his life, which was the one during the Les Enfants Terribles project (just how Liquid mentioned in MGS1), despite the fact that the Phantom Pain tells us he fell in a second one during the helicopter crash in GZ. Kojima then also said that "this would be explained if you play through the end of Phantom Pain", but as we all know that never happened because...Konami. 3) In one of Chico's tapes in GZ (the one where Paz is tortured), a man can be heard saying "Give her the shot already!". The most mind blowing fact is that that guy was voiced by the same voice actor as Miller. This wasn't by accident (Kojima never does things like these by accident), so we can pretty much conclude that Kaz was working with Skull Face even before the events of GZ (the same thing happened with the Japanese voice actor too). Now you might be thinking "what does that have to do with Venom's distorted point of view of the mission?". Well the answer is a lot. Think about it: Miller knew about the fact that Paz was rigged with bombs. So why would he get inside the helicopter when he knew full well that it would blow up in pieces? He had more chances surviving in the ocean after Mother Base's attack than being blown up in such an enclosed space. I hope you'll cover this in your Ground Zeroes essay. Here's the video that shows everything i've just stated: ruclips.net/video/IST4LZ8uwqk/видео.html
Wow, I'll have to watch the video to be sure, but from what I can tell, I'd have to disagree with some (if not most) of that. I don't wanna say anything negative in a video about a fellow MGS RUclipsr's work though, so I'll have to keep my thoughts on this stuff to myself. Maybe I'll address some of this stuff indirectly if I do a GZ vid, but here are a few thoughts: - Kaz's line in GZ you mention doesn't (to my mind) contradict what he says to BB at the end of PW. In both situations, he's just pretending to be a closer friend to BB than he really is. I don't think he's a part of Cipher per se, rather I think what he tells BB at the end of PW is pretty close to the truth: he's trying to use CIpher, to create his 'new kind of business'. That's his end-game in all this. Working with SF not only makes no sense, it's directly contradicted by SF himself. "The scientist was our way in." - It's entirely possible the real BB does not actually recover from his coma until MGS4. Yes, that would mean the BB in MG2 is also some kind of double, but it's not impossible given the 'rules' of the MGS universe. Something like that could still be being hinted at with 'The Man Who Sold The World', and players just haven't figured it out yet. This is also a series with tons of retcons, to my understanding the coma Liquid mentions has moved around in the timeline several times. As of TPP, BB is not in a coma at the time of L.E.T. He creates FOX-HOUND in America, finds out about the project, then leaves for Colombia. The earliest he enters a coma is March 16th, 1975. - Assuming it's true the VA in the tape is Robin Atkin Downs (which I find kinda dubious), that doesn't necessarily entail it's Kaz. I mean, Downs provided the voice for random NPCs in Snake Eater: doesn't make them connected. To me, the voice you're talking about sounds like the same guy we hear earlier when they grab Chico, it's similar to Kaz but I don't think it's the same guy. But again, I'll have to watch the video. - I seriously, seriously, seriously take issue with the idea Kaz knew the Mother Base raid was coming. I don't think he's acting at the end of GZ. It contradicts pretty much everything about the character in TPP, because it would mean he has no real reason to want revenge. The convo between Kaz and Zero we hear in TPP, to me, proves that this theory is incorrect. Kaz is furious, and he doesn't know he's being recorded (as far as I can tell).
The sequel to the game all the metal gear "fans" say the Love but actively choose to avoid because it's a hand held title despite having a very good closure story for the events of MGS3.
@@mzaite Still there's this consensus in the air that Peacewalker sucks or just the blaring sound of literally 75% of the fan base Gobbling MGS3's Cock like a hungry hippo. I'm not saying PW is my favorite I love all the games equally but I feel people are just so quick to hail mgs3 because its popular and avoid all else
You forgot a major part of Peace Walker well maybe a little detail. You forgot that snake meet a palico during one of his missions which took him to an island (I forget as it’s been a few years) where he had to fight the king of the skies, Rathalos and the brutal Trigrex before facing off with a new monster called Gear Rex.
If only any of the characters had an actual partner that wasn't a spy or with ulterior motives 90% of the time, they wouldn't have turned to be such backstabbers.
So the moral of the story is to do what Cipher wants and to turn yourself into a martyr or you're the giant villain and everybody should hate you because you're totally the bad guy. Yeah, Right. Big Boss did nothing wrong.
I know I’m late to the party here, and for one, great video. My biggest issue with the MGS games, and I do love them all, is the unbelievable amount melodrama that they use throughout the series. “We fight the times” is so soap opera, and I know Kojima’s love for movies influenced it all, but it comes off to me a bit naive to me. Things that aren’t supposed to be known are, and the obvious is often unknown. You really end up throwing the baby out with the bath water a lot in these games, because under any real world scrutiny, nothing would happen they way they wanted it to play out. These games will go down as some of the best in the industry, but I really wish Konami would release Snake and let Kojima create a more streamlined universe, provided he can do that. The man made Death Stranding, got upset that people didn’t like it, then double-dipped and made a directors cut, even though his name is on the studio. He has crazy and wonderful ideas, but he needs an editor to reign him in when he’s meandering in his stories, which he is oft one to do.

Yea I was busy at the time and had to check out on the Chapter 5 Grind fest. you end up missing a lot.
It’s insane that this was a psp game. This story is one of the best in the franchise.
Especially with how pissed BB was when he found out about the Clone program.
great video boss.
i‘d love the same treatment for ground zeroes 07
That Zeke paintjob.
Thanks doc.
“Kept me waiting,huh?”
Thanks so much for laying all this out, once again. I especially appreciate the reminder of the romantic subtexts between many of the characters, which gamers prefer to either ignore completely, or pretend is a joke. Great work, Boss.
49k views (20/11/2020). I really hope you get the much deserved views and we get the antecipated Ground Zeros videos.
Good luck, Boss.
hey man. I thankfully was introduced to the Metal Gear franchise during dumbass lock down and am so hooked the this awesome world. going through the Gear games and doing research I found ur videos. Just like ur other subscribers have commented ur videos and knowledge of the lore is so fucking cool and enjoy ur videos. your pretty good!
I can see why Kazuhira McDonald Miller changed his first name to Benedict... traitor.
24:15 Remember, Zero gave Big Boss a second snake, Venom. This in my opinion proves that Big Boss ultimately took Ciphers offer and Zero left him alone for it…
Another great essay!!!
Another great break down of the lore. With so many games coming out I wonder which series you will do next. Maybe Assassins Creed or even the crazy world of Borderlands
"What took you so long? "
^^
You're at 110,000 views! next set when?
Welcome back boss
Like myself I am a big MGS fan, I really like your channel, your videos are so weldone.
Untill next time, Boss. I love this content so much
Why have I not seen any The Boss/Silver Surfer artist there? Both got bombarded with comic rays and became badasses!
Holy hell! Konami needs to give the Metal Gear rights to Hideo Kojima so that he can make an origin story Metal Gear game all about The Boss. Her multiple missions and story NEED to be told through her eyes and played by us, the audience.
Sadly, Kohima has stated that he thinks metal gear is done either way (Konami rights or Kojima) but I would love this
From now on... Call me, big snake (?
Heck ya new video love these
When I first played PW I really liked Miller but after the dark truth It hurts me so much what he is done.
So timeline wise, your next video should be "What even happens in Metal Gear Survive". I'd love to see your spin on that.
Of course the times didn't like it that way and now he's the limp, revenge driven paranoid who constantly yells bitch, bitch, bitch to the rhythm of pop music that we all know but not necessarily love.
the hamburgers of kazuhira miller
wait, Kaz is Big Boss lover? fuck.
twilight sparkle really took the wrong path
Been waiting for this
even for the fiftieth time I have tears in my eyes when PW drowns itself
5:43 a collective consciousness.
Do It!
Tell Them Big Boss Sent You!
Really kinda wished that konami released a metal gear collection for current gen and next gen
Something interesting to note about Ground Zeroes is that a lot of its events are most likely shown from the distorted perspective of Venom Snake due to the hypnagosia Ocelot did to him. So everything is sort of shown as a "flashback" of sorts by Venom a lot later in his life. There's a guy that made an entire video showing proof of this, but to mention everything quickly:
1) In a codec call during GZ, Kaz mentions what Paz said during the start of Peace Walker: " "I only want peace for my country!" Can't believe we ever fell for that...".
Here's the video that shows everything i've just stated:
ruclips.net/video/IST4LZ8uwqk/видео.html
Wow, I'll have to watch the video to be sure, but from what I can tell, I'd have to disagree with some (if not most) of that. I don't wanna say anything negative in a video about a fellow MGS RUclipsr's work though, so I'll have to keep my thoughts on this stuff to myself. Maybe I'll address some of this stuff indirectly if I do a GZ vid, but here are a few thoughts:
- Kaz's line in GZ you mention doesn't (to my mind) contradict what he says to BB at the end of PW. "The scientist was our way in."
- It's entirely possible the real BB does not actually recover from his coma until MGS4.
Kaz is furious, and he doesn't know he's being recorded (as far as I can tell).
great video series I hope you make more
Cant wait for you to do MGS1
The sequel to the game all the metal gear "fans" say the Love
but actively choose to avoid because it's a hand held title despite having a
very good closure story for the events of MGS3.
To be fair, the PSP sucks. I think PW doubled in popularity when the HD collection came out on PS3.
Mother Base should have been named Guanahacabibes.
You said kaz and big boss were lovers but I can't find any evidence of that
If only any of the characters had an actual partner that wasn't a spy or with ulterior motives 90% of the time, they wouldn't have turned to be such backstabbers.
So close yet so far!
*Hamburgers of Kazuhira Miller flashbacks*
So the moral of the story is to do what Cipher wants and to turn yourself into a martyr or you're the giant villain and everybody should hate you because you're totally the bad guy.
Yeah, Right.
Big Boss did nothing wrong.
Love the videos!!
If so what happened to Miller by MGSV is basically karma finally come collecting.
Miller is a POS in my book and Big Boss was better off without him 💯
nah, Big boss just used him. That's why he trained solid snake to kill big boss (vemon snake) in MG2.
If that's karma, we live in a very, very cruel world.
The more i get into metal gear lore
The more i feel less sympathetic to almost every character with a tragic background
@@yeetleslaw8529 you kill Venom in MG. The one in MG2:Solid snake is the real Big Boss.
There is like exactly 100k views collectively. You promised lol
I still don't know how to get the Briefing Tape with The Phone Call.
39:12-39:22- I did not know that.
so basically Cipher/Zero wanted to create UNATCO.
Pretty much.
