  • So a few weeks back I purchased these ICON Anti Slip Combination Wrenches from Harbor Freight. I am very happy with the overall design and manufacturing they put into these wrenches compared to all the other manufactures of Combination wrenches that I have tried over the years. I will show you what is different between them and MATCO, Snap-On, Gearwrench, MAC, Cornwell & Craftsman. Thank as always for watching. If you found this video helpful please hit the thumbs up. Share if you want to share and the Amazon Affiliate Links mentioned in the video will be listed below. Cheers!

    I have had several different wrench sets over the 22 years I have been a tech and 2 years ago I bit the bullet and bought a snap on set of wrenches and it was the best decision I’ve made wish I would have done it years ago

    That cornwell six point combination wrench looks very similar to my gearwrench six point combination wrenches. Even the font of the engraving of the size looks similar. The gearwrench six point combination wrenches don't have multiple notches in the head for grip like the icon ones do but they do have a single notch on the contact area of the head to improve grip. I really like the milwaukee & icon wrench sets with the notched non slip open ends.

    I love my Icon metric combination wrench set... and for my SAE set I have Craftsman combination wrench set in gunmetal chrome both sets are very close to each other.

      Also I forgot to mention my Icon was $99.00 before 20% off Icon coupon. My Craftsman set was a 11pc set not 14pc like the Icon and its price was $52.97 before my 10% military discount form Lowe's.

    Just depends on what your using a wrench for. Every company had something in mind like you said for etching or design on the inside. There is no way to eliminate slip with a wrench. You can adjust play add grip etc but you still need to be able to get the wrench on the bolt or nut lol.

    I bought a set of 6-point combination wrenches, I've found them way better for most work, especially with corroded fastners. Its a good idea to have both 6 (Steelman Pro) and 12 point (Gearwrench) sets in the box anyway, both great wrench sets.

    Good post Justin. My set predates the nonslip open end but the CW613M from Carlyle is a 13 pc 6 point metric wrench set 7-19 mm i forget the exact price but wasn't that bad and has the best tool roll I've ever seen, nice wrenches

    I bought the SAE and metric combination wrenches from gear wrench for 200 bucks. Talk about every wrench I need to work at a diesel and heavy equipment repair shop. I did have to buy a tekton wrench that gearwrench didn’t have, because I ran into a hydraulic fitting that was kind of an odd size but other than that I’m very happy with the set. The boss even got me a service truck (no tools) so I’m thinking on getting a second set so I don’t have to load and unload my tools

    You haven't wiped out any of the "teeth" on the Icon? I have a set of the Carlyle. On the smaller sizes, which is where you are most likely to need the "teeth", I have wiped out the "teeth" after a couple of uses. I have since acquired Wright wrenches. There "teeth" are much more subtle and those wrenches work. They really work.

    Been considering making the jump to Icon. Do a lot of alignments and I've been working with a hodgepodge of Kobalt, Husky, and Pittsburgh stuff. Want something better than what I have but don't really feel like taking out a second mortgage to buy them off the truck.

    Try a 10mm S•K X-frame ratcheting wrench or a Wrightgrip 2.0. For comparison, the Wrightgrip 18 piece metric (7mm - 24mm) is roughly $250, depending on what finish you get (Black Oxide, Satin, or full polish). The X-frame set is a bit pricier at $234 for their metric set (8mm - 19mm), but have ratcheting box ends. Good job on the video either way and it's good to know that the Icon wrench set doesn't skip any sizes!

    Justin, in your opinion, who has the better combination wrench: Tekton or pay a few more bucks for the Icons? Want to have a decent set of SAE wrenches but does not have to be top of the line.

    • @JustinDowDIYcentralhighway
      @JustinDowDIYcentralhighway  4 года назад

      I would go Gearwrench, then ICON or Carlyle but if Tekton is your flavor go for it and let me know how well they hold up.

      Go eBay and buy used snap on they are dirt cheap on there you’ll probably not even spend twice as much as your already planning and they’ll be superior In every way and you’ll be a million times happier with them, after buying mine used I wonder why people would even look at the icons

    • @billlee1724
      @billlee1724 4 года назад +2

      A Pittsburgh or husky is just as nice as icon or tekton, a lot of tekton is also at hf. You won’t even spend twice what the icons cost if your really shop around

    • @billlee1724
      @billlee1724 4 года назад +3

      Trust me man I’ve tried the icons tekton Pittsburgh Huskey craftsman Milwaukee’s Wright’s gear wrench Mac and my snap on are 10x nicer than all of them

      If your dead set check out Milwaukee, better than the icons and come with more wrenches, I bought those before my used snap on and I still reach for the s/o everytime
