- Cheers Everybody! Cool Tool Tuesday was Very cool indeed. We learned from Jeff that Gearwrench is switching over to an All New & Stronger Version of Metal when it comes to their Impact socket's. GearWrench just came out with these? Wow I’ve had my Matco 3/8” pinless impact socket set for over 15 years now. They have been awesome to use. Never had a single one break. They were expensive back then too. $320 is what I remember paying for them from the Matco truck. I’ve always wanted to get a 1/2” set.
Being a Shade tree mechanic is way different then being a professional mechanic. The matco ones are junk!! It's snap on or nothing!

Sure it is but Amazon isn't coming by my shop and giving me a lifetime warranty on them. That truck don't run on air it has overhead.

sunex has a good set of 1/2 impact sockets, i purchased the metric one for around 130$, came with deeps, shallows, 4 extensions, and a swivel

I have the metric set of those thin wrenches,the 17mm came in handy on brake caliper slides on a 2015 Chevy Equinox so far

Needle nose vice grips work way better n adjustable, thank me later

Must be using cut rate tools . use some high quality grips with a straight nose out of the package . some slides dont even have squared edges and are completely round , caliper slide bolts shouldnt be torqued down and dont usually have corrosion problems because of the slide grease so idk how you would go about stripping one unless you really cant wrench.
Some are a hex where a wrench can be used on

It’s actually a blued finish like you’d find on a gun barrel. Definitely going in the right direction as far as QC in my book. 👍🏻
Got a set of them new gearwrench x-core swivel sockets, had them for 4weeks or more... The are not very strong the steel is soft I've broken the 19 17 and the 13mm is on it's way out pretty disappointed due to the cost of them
The shiny ones rust like no other! Havent had my set a week after christmas and after doing 1 job even with cleaning, blew me away how bad they got

I had the x core the edges were beaten & rolled so bad that they became jammed I haven't used em since I bought the sunex & they are great except my 15/16 & the 1 1/8 inch the bands are broke & the 15/16 the pin is bent inside the socket & totally seized up but they are still nice

Can't you just put a link in your feelers? Oh, and the finish on those gearwrench swivels reminds me of an impact extension set I found at HF once. Not sure why it wasn't the typical powdery finish type, but it seems to hold up well.
