Chornobyl is the city in Ukraine (in 80s - Ukrainian SSR), Nuclear power plant got its name after it. Prypiat was the closest city to the NPP, and was only built in 1975 (specifically for NPP workers), and was completely abandoned in 1986 after the Chornobyl disaster. Both cities were fully evacuated, but some institutions still operate in Chornobyl (like hotels for tourists, and workers who look after the district), but no full-time residents are living there. I wrote this piece because I saw different versions in comments, I visited both cities in 2018 so decided to share.

I was born in the 70s, and I grew up knowing the name of actors, actresses, events, and entertainers 50 years or more before my time. Sometimes I think the more information is at our fingertips, the less we care to learn it.
I think it's more that visibility of people outside your circle was very limited in the past. For example, Jackie Chan was largely unknown in the west during his heyday in the 80s. Nowadays, even Korean boy bands are getting marketed in western countries.
One day, my aunt brought me to a record store in Korea. She said I could get whatever I wanted. I had never owned my own music before because all I had to listen to was my parent's music. But on the Armed Forces Korea Network (AFKN the American broadcasts for both television and radio), I had heard Michael Jackson's Thriller, and Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. So I bought Thriller and She's So Unusual on cassette. I listened to them on my Walkman constantly. As a matter of fact, I still have my Thriller cassette. The video for Thriller, and the Making Of Thriller documentary are what got me into horror movies, zombie films, and film making. I am now a horror film maker and author.
Right? Just glaze over that real quick.... Well we know what she looks like and her name, so just watch the Oprah Winfrey Show until you recognize her. Unless Jaxon reads the comments and he just tells us which episode she is in....
The only one I didn't know was the US Supreme Court one because I'm Canadian despite living through most of the 1980s. That being said...seriously Dani's comment about thinking that Friends was from the 70s, the entire main cast of the show were born between 1963 and 1969.
I’m sorry but I’m seriously judging the ones who didn’t know Cyndi Lauper and Drew Barrymore. And when that kid said “so it Friends from the 70s” I almost threw my phone against the wall. Culture your children, people!!!
Now let's quiz you on 2020s culture and crucify you for everything you get wrong, and you'd have even less excuse because at least they can say they weren't alive in the 80s.
I was 10 when "Purple Rain" came out. It was funny, I was listening to the record, my brother comes in my room and says to my Mom "You let her listen to this?" my Mom said "Why? Is it bad?" the song was "Darline Nikki" 🤣 I think there was a movie called "Spencer" about Princess Diana, I didn't know her last name before that. 9:40 Jaxon "I am a white man!" 🤣"Was 'Friends' in the 70's?" What??😲
Although there's a smaller city named Chernobyl further north, the main city that was built to service the power plant is called Pripyat. Its located in northern Ukraine near the border with Belarus.
Blasphemous!!! If you EVER heard "How would I know?" you would NEVER disrespect Whitney Houston by comparing her vocals to Madonna. And I don't care on this one, if you are a Gen Z😆😆😆
Of course I knew all of these because I was born in the 80s. In fact, The Little Mermaid is the first movie that I remember seeing in the theater (apparently my parents took me to see Snow White when I was 3 but I don’t remember that). I was a first-grader anxiously waiting school to let out because my godmother was planning to pick me up and take me to see it after school.
Little Mermaid. Frozen. 2 danish fairy tales from HC Andersen. I think Disney did Ugly Duckling back in the day. So that's at least 3 from HC Disney have used so far. But there might be more. Not sussed on Disney stuff. 😎
So none of them got the question about the nuclear accident correct. They were asked for the city it happened in. Chernobyl was the name of the power station where the accident happened at not the city. The name of the city the power station was located near was actually Pripyat.
Well, the question was what city was the location, not what city was NEAR the location. Chernobyl is not within the city of Pripyat, it's NEAR it, so that wouldn't have technically been correct either if we're being super picky about it.
"The 'Chernobyl' disaster", happened within "The Soviet Socialist Republic of The 'Ukraine'" - in present day Ukraine, which was then part of "The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics"/ "The Soviet Union" - Inside Reactor #4, @ the "Vladimir I. That's not an accomplishment. In the 50s and 60s they release only a handful of movies a year. The number of actresses and actors in Hollywood are not even a quarter of the number of what they are in the 80s or later. Not to mention, some people don't watch movies. Get over yourself.
