yep I know photographers that buy a new cameras each year. Like why do you need 5dm3 and 5dm4 and still 7d plus a 6d and still they buy a whole lot of accessories that they won’t use
Hi Damian, just decided to to do a side by side test of my X-T1 with my X-T2 using the 16mm f1.4 and the 50mm f2. I bought the X-T2 for the ability to crop because of the higher resolution. 16mm, checked side by side in Lightroom I had to keep checking the file numbers because I didn't know which was which. Enlarged to 2:1 the sharpness was better on the X-T1 and the dynamic range was slightly better on the X-T2. The same results with the 50mm in fact the X-T1 was even sharper with this lens. If the X-T2 hadn't dropped in price so much I would have let it go because the colours off the old sensor are much better than the new one. My conclusion, which I actually new before the test, was buy any Fuji body that works for your needs and invest in the best glass. G.A.S. is a disease fuelled by commercialism which is an evil part of the world we live in. I hear reviewers raving about how cheap the latest Nikon, Canon, Sony cameras are!!!!! They are over £3000 by the time you have them kitted up with fast SD cards and £5000+ with decent glass. That is not cheap it is ludicrously expensive. People don't be fooled by the hype and the rumours. Learn to take great photos with the gear you have. Rant over. Regards Gary
Yes, glass is always best! I think a lot do get carried away with the latest and greatest, and I do like to check out new gear but there's really no need for any of it for 99% of the buyers. I guess some enjoy the rumours and the chase for the best thing, but I'd rather spend time and money on things that last...
I just bought XT-1 unused for $330. There's a lot of satisfaction knowing you get so much for so little. Did same w/XE-1 years ago. Bought Nikon D800 for $3000 new when new and years later it sets in that it is now worth $1500 on a good day on ebay. I will keep the D800 as a reminder not to ever buy latest and greatest again.
Gary Manning totally agree with you I have Fujifilm x100s and Fujifilm xt2. Both bought secondhand. To be honest I still grab the X100s most of the time as I love the simplicity and the colour of the images this camera produces. The x100s has never let me down in 3 years I can see no reason to upgrade.
@@richardwells1709 I had bad GAS this winter and bought a second XT1 with vertical grip as well as an X100S. The older Fuji sensors are amazing. The X100S cost me about $300USD and the XT1 with grip about $450USD
I'm still shooting with my X-T1 as my main camera. I will probably upgrade to the X-T2 at some point, but I'm in no hurry, the T1 still does most of what I need.
Agree 100% ! I have the X-E1 too and only found out recently that B&W apparently is exceptional and different from subsequent sensors. People seem to love it for that and I'm keeping mine for that reason and also to have two bodies w/2 differnet lenses. I have the XT-1 (got it recently for $330 USD) and I'm glad I got it for faster focusing and I like overall functionality better. Owning the X-E1 is like owning a $1500 camera for $180 so anyone should really enjoy it-so much performance for a steal of a price.
I just bought the X-T1 and I love it to bits. Got it second hand in great condition for $370 usd! Autofocus speed is not a problem, and the viewfinder is gorgeous. I don't feel the need to sugru anything on it either, except maybe the Q button in order not to press the AF assist button instead.
Something magical about the jpegs from the xt1 & x10 that are missing from the xt2 & xt3. Colour rendition and skin tones seem better. Maybe more saturated colours but they had that wow factor. My ideal camera would be the xt1 sensor in the xt3 body... I can dream
I came from the Nikon camp (since mid-'70s) to purchase a New-Old-Stock Fuji X-T1 in February of 2018.... Wish I had done that long before! The X-T1 has been an absolute brute of a workhorse! I use the thing daily and during high school volleyball and football season -shoot 4000 to 6000 images a week. Thankfully basketball season isn't quite so rough -but, I have no doubt the T1 beast would handle the work load with no problems. The camera has NEVER faltered. I will say; I USE my camera gear but they are not ABUSED. All that said, I am seriously considering an X-T2 -and simply using the T1 as a back-up machine. The Nikon 7100 and 7200 always provided good service but the Fujifilm machines have exceeded them in every way.
I think you've earned the upgrade John. I think you shot more frames on your T1 than I had but the T2 is a nice step up if you're shooting fast moving subjects.
I still shoot with the XT1 and XE1 in 2018/2019 and I don't see enough reason to upgrade. My money is better spent on more lenses really. Check out my review of the XT1 if you have not watched it.
I bought an XT1 by chance 6 months ago and in all honesty I'm blown away. This camera is remarkable and it has made me question wether to keep Nikon. However I have decided for now to use both for my wedding and portrait jobs as I believe they compliment each other. The XT1 is truly a beautiful camera in every way and it is without doubt the bargain of the century. I got one on ebay that was practically brand new and a 35 f2 for £300. The lens is actually more expensive than the body.
I found one for 400 CAD$ this summer and have been shooting with it ever since (upgraded from the X-E1). Haven't tried the X-T2 or X-T3 yet but this one is very satisfying.
Bought my T1 six months ago, just got a second as a spare body whilst there are still some good ones around. Now investing in good glass. If I want to upgrade later I will already have a sound system.
I was the one who mentioned the X-E2. And I still have it. It is still a lot of fun and very capable. The only caveat to the original X-Trans is that wax skin effect, but stay under iso 2500 and you’ll be okay. I would actually suggest an X-E series camera as an entry point to fuji to this day.
Love my black X-T1 and still have another, new in box, graphite edition. Don't plan to get rid of them anytime soon. Any money spent will be acquiring a few more lenses.
I bought a x-t10 2 weeks ago for 150 euro. I am very impressed by the IQ. I wanted a smaller camera for family trips. I shoot canon 6d now with some good glass. I have to say that the x-t10 is still a great camera today!! I am very happy. I am thinking about switching.
My fuji evolution: 2012, x100 ... 2015, x-t10 ... 2017, x-pro2. The xt10 was a real sweet spot for me, and I love the 18mm and the 23 1.4. The xt10 body ended up falling apart on me, and I had to super glue the thumb grip back on. I agree that the x-t1 would be a great deal today! even better in graphite.
nice video as always bro - I have 3 XT1's - 2 xt2's and a Xt3 - not a big difference in IQ - one thing I miss in the XT1 is the Re-Mapping of the Display button - Fuji made a firmware update for the xt2 - but for some bad reason have not included for xt1 - as I hate Display button pn left side Dual card is of course a must for weddings etc - but for personal use not critical - yes the Xt1 is still a great camera and for the price a inexpensive backup for either a xt2 or xt3 or pro 2
I currently have an xt10. The main reason I am considering getting a new camera next year is that I would make use of the Bluetooth support in the newer cameras. If not for that I would look getting a discounted xt2 or xt20.
I'm new to Fujifilm having recently purchased an X-E3 (which I'm happy with) but a friend of mine -having seen my X-E3 -picked up a refurbished X-E2 from Fuji and I was really impressed with the camera, a real mini X-Pro 1. I look forward to your review and will forward it to him when out.
Great video fellow brummie. Got one of these really cheap a few months back to test the Fuji system and really enjoy using it. Got bargain 27mm too so kind of X100 experience. I like the lower res for black and whites!
Hi Damian, the dpad problem was not good on early X-T1 very mushy action and you either had to use your nails or stick some unsightly rubber blobs on each pad. However from serial number 42xxxxxxx Fuji changed the design to more positive and clicky pads and they are very tactile. So before buying a bargain make sure of the serial number. I have a Graphite X-T2 for my general photography but actually prefer the handling of my Graphite X-T1 with both battery grip and Fuji hand grip all of which I bought in mint condition for just over £400. Just two lenses now 16mm f1.4 on the ‘2’ and 50mm f2 on the’1’. Loving it! Gary from South Herefordshire.
On paper maybe, IMHO in real world use the X-T1 destroys the X-T20. I used the X-T20 for 6 months, it got stolen and I replaced it with the X-T1, been using it for several months now. It's the one I should have gotten from the start to be honest. Feels so much better in hand, the ISO dial makes a world of difference for manual exposure, weather resistance and huge EVF far outweigh the much less useful 4k, touch screen and 24mp sensor of the X-T20. Just my experience, yours will obv vary.
Bought the Silver Graphite XT1 January 2018 for $650 U.S. new. Purchased the 35mm f2 separately. I now have the 56mm f1.2, the 16-50 kit lens and the Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm 0.95. I'm just a hobbyist shooting stills. I simply love the XT1. Amazing! Unfortunately I need to send the body in to Fuji because the rubber cladding is coming loose in a couple of places. Hate to part with it for the 2 to 3 weeks. Fuji love!! : ) BTW great channel Damian!
For me the (after swapping all my Canon gear) is the toggle at the back and the introduction of higher raised buttons, I was fortunate that with the deal I got I managed to acquire the X-Pro2 which is a great change and fun to use. Image wise? Wish I'd swapped earlier.
Just upgraded to the XT3 and was going to sell my XT1,but decided to keep it and use it with Retro lenses. Just using a helix 50mm f2 on it's the moment and I love it. Manual focus but man do u get some great photos.
I have x-T1 and X-T3. Side-by-side test using 16mmf1.4 was done. In terms of IQ, I did not find differences. AF speeds: X-T3 is superhero! X-T1 breathes. Objektiv hunts the sharpness a bit.
I literally just traded my X-T1 in for an X-T2 today. Lovely camera but the dial, AF and screen improvements made it worth the upgrade for me. Only thing I prefer on the X-T1 was the softer shutter sound.
Oh the T2 is definitely a worthy upgrade! I did the same, and now to the T3. I feel like the T1 to T2 was a more noticeable upgrade to me than the T2 to T3.
Damian! ¿Pudieras decirme el modelo de leather case que tiene esa X-T1? Necesito comprarle uno a la mía ya que el rubber grip del cuerpo se esta cayendo.
It was the Bees knees a few years back and guys found it great,so why should it change? A lot of Gas out there,as you said great for stills and gorgeous files from it.I bought it here where I live for 300 euro in mint condition, and when you consider this was a €1700 body a few years back this was a bargain.
I have two XT-1's and love the clarity and noise free images. 16mp is enough for me as, with care, you can blow them up to almost any size you are likely to use. My photography tends towards high contrast shootings and normal landscape work so O always shoot in RAW. Have tried the .jpegs and although they are good I need the highlight and shadow detail, so RAW it is. I have absolutely no intentions of upgrading! Just wish the Fuji lenses were a bit more reasonably priced!
Top man Richard. Yes, it all seemed so reasonable at first but lately the prices have ballooned and I don't think they can blame UK import or tax rates anymore (in my case)
Love my XT1 perfect camera for most all situation. However I love my XT3 even, just does everything better. It's much faster, much better focus with much better ergonomics (buttons, dials, new joy stick and dials are way better to use, plus video is way better). Dual slots is nice but not require. More mega pixels is nice but barely an advantage. The XT1 is still a great pro level camera without question. The XT3 is a significant great pro level camera.
I just got a new one with the kit lens from a couple that got it as a gift and never used it. I'm over the moon with it. I only paid 300$ for the camera and 280$ for the lens.
the Xt-1 is a fantastic still shooter. it a camera, not a movie camera. you would be hard pressed to see the difference if any if you took the exact same shot with the same lens on the XT-1, XT-2 or the XT-3 that was shot at a lower ISO and printed out 16-20 or even 20x30. It's 95 % all about buying the newest. instead of what you need and what works just fine.
Depending on your budget, you could start off with the 18-55 as a go to standard and the Samyang 12mm f2. If you don't mind shooting manual, it's great for wide landscapes! If you just want one zoom, maybe the 10-24 which gets you wider and has the benefit of OIS and would be great for travel too. There's a lot of options really, all the Fuji XF range are nice, even the XC range can do a good job if you don't mind the less resistant materials.
You are right to some degree, but while I still use xpro1 it cannot compare to xh1-no way. The most important thing is HSS in flash photography and af-c speed. None if that is available in older body.
Bought an X-T1 second-hand for £200 and just bought a second-hand XC 16-50 OIS II lens for £90. Not interested in 4K, shooting sports/action or wildlife, strictly for landscape shooting only. I'm currently using my X-T1 with a Meike 25mm lens and loving the colours straight out of camera. I think I've got myself an absolute bargain budget photography setup. Much lighter than the Nikon D600 and assorted lenses I have used up until buying the Fuji, the weight of that kit is just too much for me now. I may get myself other Fuji lenses in the future.
@@DamianBrown Thanks, I think it's a bargain too - I should also say that I got myself an Ex-Pro third-party battery as a backup for £20ish which works just as well as the original Fuji one, and a third party remote shutter cable. Photography does not need to be expensive.
I loved the XT1 when I had it, also the Xpro1 - which I won on this very channel :) - I really wanted the T2 but couldn't afford the upgrade at the time. I got a biting urge to try M43 when I hit a bit of a photography slump, so sold on all the Fuji gear. Still love my M43 gear, the IBIS is amazing, the image quality at lower ISO is just as good, but I do sometimes miss the Fuji lenses, the 35 1.4 being my favorite. I didn't care that it was a bit slow on the AF side, the results matters most, and I rarely ever do video. I'm still ever pondering a switch back to Fuji, with the current T2 used prices being lower than ever, it's very tempting - I'd never say no to an XT1 back up in that case either
@@DamianBrown I know, the shame! :D I may well be back in the new year though, we shall see! I bought the Panasonic G80 and it's a phenomenal little camera, the IBIS is insane and I love the touch screen, it's as good as the ones on your average smart phone. I think maybe an XH1 would be a good mix for me, get the lovely Fuji effect and use of the excellent Fuji lenses combined with the IBIS I've gotten so used to :)
@@DamianBrown I sure did, you should definitely give it a go, even as a small side kit, something like the omd em 10 mkII and a cheap prime, get some hand held night shooting in, maybe do a video on it as an alt system :)
Recently got a "well used" one from WEX for £175..priced due to slightly dirty sensor..cleaned the sensor. Body was mint. Bargain. As for AF...I own a XP2 and Xt-30 and the af (for stills) is negligible.
I bought my first xt1 about 3 months ago, impressive.. as an established Nikon user whose first involvement with the Nikon mount was actually a Fuji pro a5 which i used very happily for semi-pro work for a couple of years, I never forgot the special output from the Fuji sensors. The t1 is a special camera, the Fuji glass is fantastic and apart from a few specialist uses my Nikons now stay packed in their case.
Thanks for the reply Damien, just bought a second body with a vertical grip, just to make sure that I have got a spare body while there are still some good ones around. Going to get the old a5 out in the next few days and bring back some memories of how good that one is too.
Have to disagree with you when it comes.to IQ. The IQ of this camera after ISO800 is just awful - this tested inside the house with natural light. I bought this guy with a 56, 23 and 90mm and I think that this is more.like hype than anything else. The camera does not perform very well after ISO800 inside your house. Will now test it outside but my guess is that at ISO 200/400 will be all right but not great. The images of this camera looks like watercolours. Very disappointed. Bought it just to try and see for myself how good the camera is based on the reviewa I have seen. If the camera performs all right in normal conditions, so it does other even old 30D or D90.
Sugru being a product invented in ireland, I think, that can be molded to a whole bunch of purposes including making the buttons fatter :D I didn't need to do it on my T1 but the owner of this one did
Xt3 is better than Xt2 which is better than Xt1. Very simple formula, no rocket science. Why videos like that? Is that because of all the links you have here ? Easy money...
Also a lot of people can't afford or don't want to by the latest, and see the first models as so cheap and wonder if they should bother. It might not be for you but a lot of people find great value in these early models.
@@DamianBrown, It's OK, just a passing comment. I checked your other videos, and they are good. I like Fujifilm too. Got XT3 as soon as it was out. Had XT1 but, skipped over XT2. I like it with Voigtlander lenses, Got 58 1.4, and 21 1.8. Simply beautiful! As for the bloggers, I like the Angry Photographer :)

my first Fuji was my X-T20, and I absolutely love it - will never part with it. Anyway, my point is that I think it's a better camera than the X-T1.
I wouldn't argue with that. I do believe the T1 is still a very useful bit of kit though. The T20 even more so overall, but still :)
What a great kit you have!! Thanks :D
just got a X-T1 to get into the Fuji system, what a fabulous camera for stills and such a bargain, put your cash into more glass and enjoy ;-)
Absolutely Mike!
For me the (after swapping all my Canon gear) is the toggle at the back and the introduction of higher raised buttons, I was fortunate that with the deal I got I managed to acquire the X-Pro2 which is a great change and fun to use. Image wise? Wish I'd swapped earlier.
Never look back man :D
Just upgraded to the XT3 and was going to sell my XT1,but decided to keep it and use it with Retro lenses. Just using a helix 50mm f2 on it's the moment and I love it. Manual focus but man do u get some great photos.
Ye I love vintage / fuji combos
You somehow read my mind into making this vid. Just what I needed. Thanks Damian!
Shhh you'll ruin my secret :D
Now I'm really seriously about changing from my Canon 70D to this guy, so beautiful.
Yes!!!! The video is nowhere near as useful but the stills are soooo good.
Got one recently. Love it. An upgrade from pro 1 - do I trust the weather sealing?
I have x-T1 and X-T3. Side-by-side test using 16mmf1.4 was done. In terms of IQ, I did not find differences. AF speeds: X-T3 is superhero! X-T1 breathes. Objektiv hunts the sharpness a bit.
Ye, definitely the real big difference for stills shooters!
Damian Brown For stills, yes. But for video the T3 is markedly improved. Now autofocus in video actually works!
Damian! ¿Pudieras decirme el modelo de leather case que tiene esa X-T1? Necesito comprarle uno a la mía ya que el rubber grip del cuerpo se esta cayendo.
Spot on! I still happily shoot with the X-T1, and even use the X-Pro1 when I want to have a Zen moment ;-)
@@DamianBrown Have a great Christmas Damian and keep the videos coming!
Which is a better camera for stills/ JPEG? X- T1 or X-T100?
I guess the T100 as it's a newer sensor and processor. I prefer the feel of the T1 though.
Just got mine of eBay graphite silver edition in like new condition for $350usd
Nice!!
Bargain!
I love my xt1, Im thinking about getting a second or an xpro1
I had the T1 and Pro1 combo for a while, worked for me, though I do like two of the same bodies when I work. But it wasn't a big deal.
Nov 2019 i still use my X T-1 I have a xT-2 XPro 1&2 X Pro 2/ Xt-2 Are Like Race Cars XT-1 Slows you Down Just Enough.
Nice comparison!
So which one would you choose? An X-pro 1 or an X-T1
Personally the T1 for the fit but that's just down to personal preference. I love both.
@@DamianBrown i haven't tried any of them yet and I only get to choose one so probably I will go with xt1
the Xt-1 is a fantastic still shooter. it a camera, not a movie camera. you would be hard pressed to see the difference if any if you took the exact same shot with the same lens on the XT-1, XT-2 or the XT-3 that was shot at a lower ISO and printed out 16-20 or even 20x30. It's 95 % all about buying the newest. instead of what you need and what works just fine.
Yes, stills all day. They really stepped up the video with the 2 and 3 though!
The only things I wish I had was film simulations in capture one, faster and more accurate AF with my 56 at
The T2 is a crazy bargain now!!!
I'm looking to buy one of these for mostly outdoor scenery photography, what lense would you reccomend to buy for it ?
Depending on your budget, you could start off with the 18-55 as a go to standard and the Samyang 12mm f2. If you don't mind shooting manual, it's great for wide landscapes!
If you just want one zoom, maybe the 10-24 which gets you wider and has the benefit of OIS and would be great for travel too.
There's a lot of options really, all the Fuji XF range are nice, even the XC range can do a good job if you don't mind the less resistant materials.
@@DamianBrown Thanks, will look into those.
You are right to some degree, but while I still use xpro1 it cannot compare to xh1-no way. The most important thing is HSS in flash photography and af-c speed. None if that is available in older body.
Wrong the X-T1 has HSS unlike the X-PRO1 & X-E1 sorry to be the bearer of bad news! 🤣
Great combo and price Kevin!
@@DamianBrown Thanks, I think it's a bargain too - I should also say that I got myself an Ex-Pro third-party battery as a backup for £20ish which works just as well as the original Fuji one, and a third party remote shutter cable. Photography does not need to be expensive.
Should I get the xt1 instead of the xt30?
Use the X-T30 & X-E3 at your local store to see what you like better!
Picked one up two weeks ago in excellent nick for £250...more than happy
That is a good price!!
Insane really
Got one and love it. I actually do not need a xt2 or xt3. I say "do not need". Screw that. I bought the xt2 and xt3 also:)))
Ha me too :D
You abandoned us man :D
To be fair the m43 world is interesting too!
Ye the IBIS constantly has me reading up on second hand m43 camera, I think it was you that gave me a bit of advice over on TP!
@@DamianBrown I sure did, you should definitely give it a go, even as a small side kit, something like the omd em 10 mkII and a cheap prime, get some hand held night shooting in, maybe do a video on it as an alt system :)
the XT1 is the Iphone SE of the fuji x series lineup
Saludos.
Gracias Juan!
Xe2 shooter here, I love that little camera
Ye nice camera! :D
I own both Xt1 and Xt2 no need to buy the new one at the moment.
Yes, for the majority of users those two work perfectly fine!
How about XPro1 in 2019? 😊
Why not :D
Recently got a "well used" one from WEX for £175..priced due to slightly dirty sensor..cleaned the sensor. Body was mint. Bargain. As for AF...I own a XP2 and Xt-30 and the af (for stills) is negligible.
Bargain!!
Xt1 - 450 USD HAND GRIP SD CARD AND 3 BATTERY. HAPPY 😊
Enjoy!!
when i spin the focus ring or aperature ring on xt20,nothing happends sigh
What lens are you using?
@@DamianBrown 23mm f2
@@DamianBrown brand new cam n new lens, bought seperate
You should totally sit in the passenger seat when you do bits in your car.
I'm too lazy for that :D
Without watching the video, yes! I loved mine, XT2's are now down to around £500. Bargain if you have the money.
XT2 in 2022? :D
@@DamianBrown hopefully sooner, maybe the middle of next year.
xt1 best skintone
Got my XT1 for $250 dollars.
Bargain
I bought my first xt1 about 3 months ago, impressive.. as an established Nikon user whose first involvement with the Nikon mount was actually a Fuji pro a5 which i used very happily for semi-pro work for a couple of years, I never forgot the special output from the Fuji sensors. The t1 is a special camera, the Fuji glass is fantastic and apart from a few specialist uses my Nikons now stay packed in their case.
Great comment, thanks!
Thanks for the reply Damien, just bought a second body with a vertical grip, just to make sure that I have got a spare body while there are still some good ones around. Going to get the old a5 out in the next few days and bring back some memories of how good that one is too.
David Hedges
I hear ya. I have a new xt1 in a box as backup and also have 2 s5pros as well. Both great cameras but the S5 produces better skin tones.
You are right IM, the s5 is still one of the great portrait cameras.
I've seen them for £250
I reckon that's the price it'll stick at for a good while now on the sh market. Such a bargain.
3 years later you can say the same thing while holding an X-T3...if you bought one.
Good idea :D
Sugru'd???
Sugru being a product invented in ireland, I think, that can be molded to a whole bunch of purposes including making the buttons fatter :D I didn't need to do it on my T1 but the owner of this one did
Xt3 is better than Xt2 which is better than Xt1. Very simple formula, no rocket science. Why videos like that? Is that because of all the links you have here ? Easy money...
So why watch or comment?
Also a lot of people can't afford or don't want to by the latest, and see the first models as so cheap and wonder if they should bother. It might not be for you but a lot of people find great value in these early models.
@@DamianBrown, It's OK, just a passing comment. I checked your other videos, and they are good. I like Fujifilm too. Got XT3 as soon as it was out. Had XT1 but, skipped over XT2. I like it with Voigtlander lenses, Got 58 1.4, and 21 1.8. Simply beautiful! As for the bloggers, I like the Angry Photographer :)
Nice lenses!!
