I have an extensive Canon pro-body (1D & 5D) and lens system, about £16k worth. Two years ago I tried the Fuji X100. Frustrating camera, I sold it. Last year I bought the X Pro 1. Frustrating camera, I sold it. A few weeks ago I bought the XT-1... I'm in love. Fuji have nailed it.
Five years on and the X-T1 is still a great camera. It can be had for less than $400USD in mint condition from used dealer or about a third of the price new.
The Fujifilm X100s is one of the most popular compact companions for photographers at the moment. And this camera steps up the game even further, can't wait to see what people can do with it.
The one i really like about this camera is the fact that it got its own mobile app to download the images to a smartphone. I would like to know if there is any camera that have this feature? Really looking for something like this
I though the sony a6000 had the fastest AF at 0.6 seconds. Seems like every camera manufacture likes to throw that "fastest AF in the world" claim around as much as possible
Currently considering the xt1 or the Sony a7 II. Which would you recommend the most? I'm coming from a nikon d5300. I need something smaller and more compact.
"The 4 way buttons on the back of the camera are small and fiddly." ...pretty minor complaints and they dont take away from the overall package. I just dont agree with this. Fiddly and small is frustration everytime you press those buttons. how does that not take away from the package?
I was watching this on my xbox and had to come on here just to specifically comment on this chick. What a pretentious bitch! And this is coming from the guy(me) who took 5 mins out of his lazy day to come on here and comment on her!
TheDudeofDudes Walked into the shot? She was exiting the subway. Where is she supposed to go? It's amazing how you can determine exactly who someone is via a 2 second video clip. You're what's wrong with the internet.
Yeah, she could have just walked by like everyone else, but she had her self-important look of disgust and hand gesture that made her look pretentious. It would be clear to anyone that the photographer didn't give a shit about her, yet she seemed to think so. So yeah, I still stand by my statement. You can only know a person by what they give to you to perceive, and this chick game me the pretentious bitch gesture. So, my personal verdict stands until she was to give me more evidence to the contrary. I suppose I am leading the world into chaos by commenting on this chicks overreaction.
Ive had one for over a year now and have used it in nearly every situation. If you have any questions to ask about it please ask and I will give an unbiased reply!:)
Tina Avantis Probably not ideal for that purpose as is it more photography orientated. Whilst the video is ok, it isn't the best and you can't see yourself whilst you record (unless you have a phone that is simultaneously connected with the wifi mode but if you have a phone then you may as well use that). So, simple answer, Kinda. It would work if you wanted it to but I wouldn't recommend it for that use. Look at what other vloggers like caseyneistat use.
Im debating between xt1 and olympus em5 markii. What do u think? If i will go with xt1 what is the best lens for travelling so i dont have to carry a lot of lenses. Thank you
Rhonalyn Hernandez they're pretty much the same but the xt1 is still slightly better technically and I believe better software wise and ergonomically though not by much. And it depends what type of traveller you are. My go to lens has been an 18-135 xf wr (thats not accounting for crop zoom sensor factor or whatever its called). ITs a waterproof lens with some of the most amazing stabilisation (all fuji lens are stabilised) but I can go on half a second handheld and not be blurred. The 18-135 means its perfect for every type of photography. However, with this comes size. Its not a big lens but it is well made which means Its as heavy if not heavier than the camera itself. I never have a problem with it but if you're climbing up a mountain maybe you will have. I don't even change lenses on my xt1 because I have it all with this lens. Its probably my favourite lens ever made. Its also pretty amazing optically. However, If you want something smaller for travel, then the XF35mm F2 R WR is also amazing. Hope that was of help.
I currently shoot with a canon 5D mkii, wanting to move to something smaller so that it makes for easier traveling and hiking but don't want to compromise image quality too much, would this camera be the right choice?
Good review but felt the speed of the talking spoilt the it for me personally, even I felt out of breath after ever sentence!! :-) Great camera though although it makes me chuckle .... The body and controls design in so old fashioned and was on all the cameras in the 60's and yet all these" Retro look " camera designers seem to think that is all new and they have thought of it first ... :-)
+Neil Franklin The retro, old fashioned functionality is what convinced me to buy it. Most of the controls on the outside of the camera makes it an even better choice because you don't have to dig through menus and submenus to change some of the most common settings.
DSLR digital cameras came to an end in 5 years. I can assure you. the mirrorless is evolution. no better brand or photographic camera in the world. if there is a different world in each brand. analyze it.
By A " Very focused, experienced, who total understand about the principal of photography" yet without good respect to other new comers or beginners to photography world
the title makes perfect sense for anyone who is into photography. the point being that serious photographers have tended to stick with slr's and not taken mirrorless cameras seriously. until now.
ha ha ha! omg, not a chance. my girlfriend had the a6000. it's a piece of junk compared to this. and I am a SONY guy. she ended up selling the a6000 and buying the SONY RX10 which is comparable to the XT1.
The rear dial is hard to reach for you because you're using your left eye to shoot. Use your right eye like every normal photographer and you'll have room for your right hand
regardless of which eye you use it can still be tricky. I dont own this camera but I have a SONY RX10 which is very similar and has the same dial in the same spot.
I had gotten a 250$ Fujifilm a while back... it claimed to be "shock-proof" so I was interested in using it at the warehouse I worked at. Inexplicably... the thing didn't come with a camera lens-cap. The front lens got scratched in the first 3 days of use. I was able to get a full refund. On top of that... the pictures weren't even great, even for it's price range. It's pictures were comparable to my Nexus 4 (which is itself 300$). Maybe they're better on the higher end, but in my experience Fujifilm's low end is quite crap.
Listen how respectful is this experience & professional talking " Fujifilm TX-1 isn't FOR EVERYBODY, it's a focus to experience photographer who knows the principal of photography.. and ended with it's just a "fun of shooting" how professional was that statement??? amazing that you had enough patience to give them 3 tries!
Five years on and the X-T1 is still a great camera. It can be had for less than $400USD in mint condition from used dealer or about a third of the price new.
10 years now.. still great
Just picked one up for ~$400 in 2024. Sadly missed the low about a year ago when they hit $250. It's crazy the staying power this camera has had!
Best camera I have ever owned and the xf lenses are all superb, I think I'm going to stick with Fuji for a long time.
The Fujifilm X100s is one of the most popular compact companions for photographers at the moment. And this camera steps up the game even further, can't wait to see what people can do with it.
Bought the x-t1 to use my vintage nikkor and takumar lenses for manual focus landscapes and street photography. Love it
And with todays firmware update, its even better. Perhaps an updated video with new firmware ?
Love the girls reaction at 2:05 that's such a typical New York fog being lifted really quick, like woaaahh
Very accurate and unbiased review. I'm buying the graphite version.
davidjewels I am buying one tomorrow with the 35 F1.4
the auto focusing system of this model looks way much better than the other fuji cameras. worth the money!
Nice review. I'd like to see more photography related reviews from The Verge.
Well, you got em
This is a fast & efficient review! Nice!
2:05 that girl :P
I didn't like the stank look she gave him, he's doing his job
"FUCK OUT THE WAY!"
***** Middle class Manhattan princes.
I was just about to comment this😂😂
Still loves this camera. got IT from Day one😀
The one i really like about this camera is the fact that it got its own mobile app to download the images to a smartphone. I would like to know if there is any camera that have this feature? Really looking for something like this
Very well done review. Definitely subscribing, I loved your overview of the camera
Praise be to the Verge, it isn't David Pierce again
Beautiful camera, great review...
It is better than a Leica M or a Nikon DF or a Sony Alpha 7R?
It would be nice to hear how it does in burst mode, how fast to focus, low light use, whether good for sports, portraits, how many lens options etc.
+uscg The lens goes only as high as 135mm, but the advantage is a lens with an aperture of f/1.2
+Jose Balboa Fuji currently has lenses with focal lengths up to 230mm
www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/xf_lens/roadmap/
the focus time was quoted in the video. it was the fastest focusing camera at that time.
such a great review, keep it up!
Love it. Had to buy it.
Short & simple ;-) awesome review
I though the sony a6000 had the fastest AF at 0.6 seconds. Seems like every camera manufacture likes to throw that "fastest AF in the world" claim around as much as possible
first of all I think you are misquoting the a6000 focus time... because the focus time given for the XT1 is o.o8 - nearly 10 times faster.
How far can you be from the camera when using the phone to shoot?
Currently considering the xt1 or the Sony a7 II. Which would you recommend the most? I'm coming from a nikon d5300. I need something smaller and more compact.
+David Marte xt1 is apsc, a7ii is full frame
if you need something smaller why are you condering a7? that is a full frame camera.
How will you compare it with Sony alpha A7 and A7r? Later two are also great cameras!
why would you compare to those cameras? those are full frame sensors and much bigger cameras.
Does anyone have a link on to how to do the font rotation starting at 0:13 mark in the video? Any info would help thank you.
This is the mirrorless I'm gonna get
Why pick this over the Sony or Olympus? I'm trying to decide on the best mirrorless.
How is this compact? Recently there's a tendency to group everything that's not a dslr into the compact category.
it's a compact for any serious photographer. look how easily it fits into his hands. if you go any smaller you start sacrificing quality.
Believe it or not im selling my A7R to get this. Just attach a focal reducer on this bad boy and you get full frame
you dont get full frame. you can use a larger lens on a smaller sensor.
man I liked this camera is it weather sealed like the Pentax I mean you can splash it water
weather sealed does not mean water proof. you can splash it with water, not in water.
"The 4 way buttons on the back of the camera are small and fiddly." ...pretty minor complaints and they dont take away from the overall package. I just dont agree with this. Fiddly and small is frustration everytime you press those buttons. how does that not take away from the package?
Because they aren't actually that bad
exactly - and you develop a feel for them.
The EVF didn't change my opinion at all, they still have a longgggg way to go.
Honestly you don't notice it , all my other cameras have optical VF's I switch back and forth all the time without noticing at all
GH4?
How would you say this camera works in low light... A wedding for example?
he mentioned that it had good high ISO performance.
how wpuld u compare it to nex7 or alpha 6000?
blows a6000 out of the water. my girlfriend had that camera - it sucked and she sold it then upgraded to SONY RX10 which is comparable to XT1.
Thank you!
Watching this in 2024 because I'm buying one.
Hahaaaaa the lady walking up the stairs from the train station. 2:06 😂😂😂
How much it costs?
they told you in the video. at that time it was $1300 for the body, $1700 for body and 18-55mm
not good for video though
Thanks for the research im almost done deciding on an fuji or canon!!Which One Should I Pick??📷💬💁😉👍
Loryn- M. Fuji for sure
FUJI for sure!
Review the Fujifilm FinePix S1

TheDudeofDudes She doesn't want someone taking pictures of her and she's a pretentious bitch?
She walked into a shot that was obviously not about her and acted like a pretentious bitch. So yeah, she is.

very nice review on this body...

she seems lost!?!
Not all people enjoy suddenly having a camera straight to the face. Huh... Shocking.
@@voehman yes, she was definitely surprised more than anything.
your the one I want
Pacing. Cadence. Tempo.
Ahhaha lol 2:04

Do you think it vould work as a vlogging camera as well?
Tina Avantis Probably not ideal for that purpose as is it more photography orientated. But it's a $1700 mirrorless slr. Main problem right there.
$1300 without lens and I think your underestimating the quality of the camera
Then your answer is simple, don't buy it.
I think it's a pretty sweet camera, but honestly I think something like the Sony a6000 can have the same or similar quality and cost half the price.
mhmm thats a good point mister Robert sir. Depends on what attributes you want your camera to have
***** haha. true.. but the fuji lenses aren't exactly affordably priced either. ;)
Confused girl at 2:05 😂
Would rather buy a Panasonic GH4 for the price...
poor choice. GH4 only has a 4/3 sensor. this has APS-C.

lol! duh.

24-28mp CCD sensor (on the xT2) and I will buy one or two.
cmos CAN GO TO HELL!
Louder shutter
probably a hard take for most people as the xt1 is mostly for street togs(not saying it cant be used for anything else that street tog)
not review ... advert ;P
it was a review you dope. he mentioned the features and then the good and bad things about it.
