I love the idea of the coffee and cloves. But to everyone.. DO NOT use moth balls! It is TOXIC, especially breathing it in. Instead, use other natural aroma s. Also , if you have pets, make sure the aromas you use are not toxic to them.
My brother just moved to Guyana and isn't used to the mosquitoes and doesn't want to burn that toxic mosquito ring all the time, so I will definitely send this to him.
Thank you I didn't hear mothballs at first but yes very toxic, I do put them in my flower bed I had a neighborhood tomcat using for potty No worries the smell keeps them from getting near the bed before any harm and it doesn't hurt the garden either
This is a sort of craft that we as kids made in 4th grade. We took out the orange flesh, but instead of coffee, our teacher had us put in a wick, then ice cubes. Then we poured in wax that we had colored with crayons. The wax solidified around the ice cubes, making pretty holes. Afterwards, we poured out the water, made some salt dough bases colored with some acrylic paint for our candles, and took them home for Christmas. They were pretty, and burned for a while, at least as long as the peel off the orange was still fresh. 😊 I don't know what the fresh coffee grounds would do for keeping the orange fresh, but the cloves would work better if you pushed them into the outside, into the zest. They'd have more air exposure that way. And you don't need the wick or a candle either. Just stir the coffee grounds every so often to expose the fresh stuff to the air. I would think adding some baking soda to the bottom of the orange, then adding the coffee on top of it would be a bit more effective. Oh well, not my post. Happy hunting!
Make sure to put a plate or spacer of some kind under the orange. Once they start heating up. The oil is released and can stain if not o plate or liner
They are right, just omit the Noftilina, can replace with couple drops of lavender oil, a natural mesquito repellent, if thats what ur going for, or can leave out & still have a nice smell.
Why is naphthalene banned? 3. Why is Naphthalene banned? The substance is banned due to its toxicity to humans, especially children, and its carcinogenic (cancer causing) properties. It is also highly flammable
Well, I hadn't heard of naftaline or mothballs in yeeeears! I checked Wikipedia and then read the comments and glad to see many people were proactive in sharing the information and offering suggestions!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I make it simple. I just light a cinnamon stick leave it in a small clay bowl or burner and move it around the house. I do that with cloves as well. Apart from the smell it spread love and harmony within the home. It drives away evil spirit. I love to use cinnamon cloves and sage around my home
Mothballs of naphthalene are dangerous for health. Some here suggested camphor, but that's not much better. Just use the orange, coffee and cloves, that's a lot of aroma right there! Also, instead of the wick, use a tea light.
@Tuttie Obrien Tea light is simply another name for a very small, short candle (smaller than a votive candle) Tea lights were often (and still are) used as warmers under a tea pot or pan of food at the table (at a buffet table, for example).
Thanks for the recipe..this helps me, my house is near a banana plantation, morning, afternoon, especially in the evening there are lots of mosquitoes.. thanks
Moth balls will discourage butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. Cloves and oranges work great. Add coffee too if you like. Oh here's a trick to keep ants outside. A thin line of lemon juice at the door or bottom of stairs. They don't cross the juice.
India-Ahmedabad. Good suggestion. Lots of coffee Powder is required. In INDIA it is not cheaper. Moreover, I would like to use coffee powder for making coffee drinks. Your suggestion is Innovative. Ok bye. 👍🇮🇳🙏🇮🇳👍

What happens to the orange peel and coffee and other ingredients? Will it light the whole day? How long should we keep this to get the desired result? Kindly reply.... Thanks.

My thoughts exactly. I don't want to kill Everything while being lured by a pretty idea and masked fragrance.
Cancer ? Wow, why isn't it banned in India? Thanks for sharing. Eitherways we use natural products so it doesn't matter, but can tell others...
If you and your household are dead, bugs won't be a bother😂😂😂😂
Is it moth balls??

You light the cinnamon stick? Does it stay lit? Does it burn quickly?
@Laura I light up the cinnamon stick. It does not burn quickly. Very economical to use, smells good and not toxic.

It won't burn the substance needed to keep bugs away if u use a tea light. Silly...
