    Hey Jeremy, great review! I agree with all your points. I saw the film last night and even still today, I can’t believe some of the graphic imagery I saw on the screen. I NEVER thought I would see anything like that in a studio film, let alone one from Disney! This film is so dark, unnerving and unwholesome, that the best compliment I can give it is that it feels like Satan himself was a technical advisor on it. I also can’t believe this is Arkasha Stevenson’s feature-film debut (she also co-wrote the screenplay). She knocks it out of the stratosphere on this one. Not only is the movie set in 1971 it feels like it was shot in 1971. The cinematography, editing style and sound design all feel like lo-fi throwbacks to the 70s, in the best possible way. Yet it never feels dated and greatly respects Richard Donner’s film. I can’t recommend this movie enough ... if you can handle it!

    I am a Catholic. The term Jeremy is looking for is novitiate or postulant. Both terms refer to different stages of formation in which an aspirant to consecrated life goes through in order to become a nun.

      I believe in Jesus myself. I'm questioning if I should even be watching these types of movies? But at the very least, I'll watch Jeremy's review. Do you have any movie suggestions that don't necessarily have to be about Jesus or religion. But preferably comedies or other types of movies or shows that are ok to watch or won't feel guilty watching?

    • @alphacause
      @alphacause 7 месяцев назад

      @@Fromwoketoawakeandfindingfaith Most horror movies, specifically ones dealing with religious institutions and exorcisms are sacrilegious. So I wouldn't recommend watching much of that genre. I think a comedy that features religious life, but is not antithetical to religious values, is Nacho Libre. The TV series, the Chosen, is one of the best dramatizations of the Gospels. The Lord of The Rings trilogy is not about religion, but contains religious allegories that are congruent with Christian teaching. A good channel to watch for recommendations is Upon Friar Reviews. It features two Franciscan priests who review movies and they speak about how certain secular oriented films which support Christian virtue and how certain films glorify values that are opposed to Christian reaching.

      @@FromwoketoawakeandfindingfaithAs someone who was previously religious, Id suggest not limiting yourself with film. They are all different. Have different messages, tones, themes, etc. Movies like this one in particular are pointing out the fallibility of man and his perversion of religion, albeit in an extreme way. If you want another person's opinion on religion and movies check out Chris stuckmanns story about leaving the Jehovah's witnesses.

      @@Fromwoketoawakeandfindingfaith As someone who was previously atheist I believe we should look at this type of movies, facing your fears should be something we do all the time as Christians, and knowing evil exits instead of looking away from it is what we should do that's why the cross exists, face the evil and overcome it rise from it. Looking into the void is the only way to appreciate the light.

    Well @JeremyJahns, Since you mentioned it! Theres a process to one entering religious life for nuns. The first steps include becoming a Postulant or Novice. Then as the time goes on they take vows of commitment for a certain amount of time till eventually they take their final vows. Each religious order has its differences but thats the general rule.

    I think 1976’s The Omen is great. Rewatching it a couple months ago, it still holds up quite well. With this movie, I think I’ll wait until it hits streaming. I’m already seeing a lot of movies in theaters this month, which means one I’m not as looking forward to has to wait for a couple of months. After this review though, this movie has more of my attention.

      Bro, I wanna know if this was true for anyone else cause I watched the omen a few Halloweens back with my aunt, and that shit was a laugh riot. All of the "scary" scenes just landed with perfect comedic timing for me. It just felt so dated. Like was the thing that was in the fire the "Grandmother" of Damien? Like I had more questions than answers. So many questions. It doesn't give to many answers and it felt more of like an insinuation about his parentage. And, what happens to "others" in the sequels (OG Films) or are they gonna reboot/remake the whole thing?
