  • Nell Tiger Free is proving to be quite the genre powerhouse. After starring in four seasons of the widely acclaimed Apple TV+ series, Servant, alongside Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, and Rupert Grint, she’s now headlining a brand new Omen movie, The First Omen, directed by yet another soaring force in the horror space, Arkasha Stevenson.
The film takes place before the events of Richard Donner’s 1976 classic and focuses on Free’s character, Margaret. Margaret grew up in an orphanage where she suffered horrific hallucinations and visions. As a result, she was abused by the nuns in the facility. As a young adult, Margaret is in the novitiate phase and heads off to Rome to become a nun. While there, the pain she carries from her tumultuous childhood collides with the discovery of a sinister agenda unfolding around her, a combination that causes her to question her faith, and everything she thought she knew.
In celebration of The First Omen’s big debut, Free joined me for a Collider Ladies Night conversation recapping her journey from first discovering her passion for acting to finding an ideal collaborator in Stevenson while making The First Omen.

Hey, does the demon dance mean she was raped by the invisible demon ? What exactly was the “demon dance” and the white thing in her mouth at the end I don’t get it ?

I loved it as a companion piece to the original trilogy. I felt the first time director jitters a bit. I heard that it was good from a trusted source but I wasn't prepared for how much homage there would be. Sam Neil was in an obscure film called Possession the same year he did The Final Conflict. They directly "lifted" a scene from it and just crammed it in here. There was about 65% Suspiria in here. Ugh. But it was beautiful art, there was another peeve that I won't mention because it's a spoil. I recommend it, but, if you're a horror freak like me, you will see some things that are familiar, (is this a nod or did you just...)

She’s so talented. New fan here for sure. Truly deserves all the awards for her performance in The First Omen. Guarantee that the Oscar best actress line up next awards season won’t match the quality of her performance. Such a shame horror always gets overlooked

I really dug The First Omen, and a large part of that is due to not just Stevenson's direction, but Nell Free's exceptional performance. She reminded me of Adjani in "Possession" and Farrow in "Rosemary's Baby".

Exactly, I saw some Famke in her with her dark hair in the movie. Since I tried to avoid any spoilers before seeing the First Omen I too am a new fan, not seeing her in anything before. Now knowing she’s a Brit, I would like to see her involved when the BOND reboot eventually happens. She has such a great look, I was wondering while watching the movie if she was a known model already, or a famous actress’s daughter perhaps. Great casting though, she looks like she could be the teenage Damian’s Mom, all the best to her in the future.

I enjoyed the film. But that “dance” scene was so cringe. I felt like it was thriller/jenna Ortega dance lol. It was so silly.
