Ella Purnell Interview: Fallout's Lucy MacLean & Yellowjackets Theories

- If you’re a frequent Collider Ladies Night viewer/reader/listener, you’re likely well aware of my Yellowjackets obsession. I’ve been lucky enough to welcome many Yellowjackets cast members to the show, including Christina Ricci and Jasmin Savoy Brown, but there’s a certain someone who I was extremely disappointed to have missed out on while she was on the show - Ella Purnell. However, the time has finally come. Not only did I get the opportunity to talk a little Yellowjackets with Purnell, but we also got to celebrate yet another exceptional show of hers, Prime Video’s Fallout.
Purnell plays Lucy in the series adaptation of the hugely popular Bethesda game. She’s a vault dweller living safe and sound in Vault 33. They’ve got food, water, and a kind community with a neighborly vibe. Above ground, however, it’s the exact opposite. 219 years since nuclear bombs decimated the surface, everyone else is just trying to survive in an apocalyptic wasteland with little to no rules or morals. In an effort to find her father (Kyle MacLachlan), Lucy opts to do the unthinkable, leave the comfort of sheltered vault life behind to venture out into the ruthless outside world.
In celebration of Fallout’s big debut on Prime Video, Purnell joined me for a Ladies Night conversation to recap her journey in film and television thus far, and discuss how her career priorities have changed over the years.

I've lost track of Collider but I used to watch Movie talk every day starting back years ago. I miss watching all of you guys and of course I miss Jon Schnepp.
I stumbled on this video and really enjoyed watching your interview.
WE WANT MOar
you know the interviewer is good when the actor keeps complimenting every question!! good job
Perri has been one of the best in the business
I wanna see Perri on Hot Ones. That would be an amazing interview.
@@HereBeDragonsYT hell yea
❤❤❤
Not only that but getting a 40 minutes interview in junkets is INSANE! (I write for an amateur Portuguese website and I got 5 minutes with Graham Wagner and Jonathan Nolan, which is already huge for us). Getting that amount of time just show how experienced and professional she is. I absolutely love watching her interviews specially when it comes to a Yellowjackets actor!
She’s gonna be the next big Hollywood star.
i hope! she's very talented and super pretty which is all hollywood really needs lol
Let's pray that she never ruins her face later on with plastic surgery.
@@teamshaboobalu2887 Rip: Erin Moriarty
Helps that she's only been in bangers so far.
I hope so, I saw her in Yellowjackets, she was fantastic in it
ANOTHER great interview. Perri has this ability to allow the actor to be comfortable and answer the questions asked, sincerely.
Also, Ella is incredibly brilliant. She is smart and confident in her answers AND was able to answer them without punching up her answers to be cool. She was truly present for the interview, and my wife and I hope to see her soon in another movie/TV show.
PS - Yellowjackets killed me. My wife loved it, but I watched it for her (so we could experience it, together), and her performance at Jackie was incredible.
Thank you, Perri...for Ladies Night is a great venue to celebrate the actors/roles of women in cinema.
It's impossible for every actor to not feel comfortable with Perri, she just makes the best, interesting and well thought questions ever, always about the project and what the actor/actress acomplished with it, best female interviewer EVER (and also she loves cinema as much as we do)
Made my day reading this 🥲
@@PerriNemiroff Omg your reply made my day 😭 you deserve it cause you're really one of the best female interviewers out there today (and my personal favorite ngl 😌) also congratulations to YOU Perri for everything you accomplished, keep up the good work ❤️
Perri is definitely up there with the best of the best interviewers, asking thoughtful, creative questions in such an effortlessly conversational way! And I agree with others that already commented on how Ella kept on mentioning "that's a really good question"-- that's a sign of a talented and thoughtful interviewer!
Ella seems such a sweet, sincere person, too! And she crushed her role as Lucy in Fallout. Bravo to both you ladies! 😊
She’s right about the key to Lucy is the okey-dokey attitude. The scene with Wilzig, where she has to do something distasteful to him, she’s like: this has to be done, I can do this, deep breath, okey-dokey, let’s get it done. I love that line delivery.
Ella definitely is those people who can light up a room. What a great actress she is! 😊 Amazing interview, loved it 🩵
PS: I will forever miss Jackie 🥲
This interview is one of the best I have ever seen. Please pay your host more money she is amazing.
she's just the best!
💯
Greeeeat interview! I really miss Ella as Jackie Taylor and Im loving Ella as Lucy! She's amazing!
@28:00 her talking about her approach to the comedic moments for her character is really fascinating- it’s this level of awareness and skill that makes the difference between a good and great actor, and it’s a key ingredient in the success of the show. Congratulations Ella 😊
This is a fabulous interview! Ella looked so good and seemed so engaged, and that's thanks to the stellar questions she was asked! Great job, Perri!
Great interview,l. I loved Ella Purnell performance in Fallout, so.much so that in think that the show would not have worked as well with out it. She's the heart and soul of that show
Okey-dokey! Now go to work and give us some more Gucy. 🤪
I need a second season, and I need it now.
This interviewer has charisma 10/10
Ella needs to do Hot Ones.
the BEST interview wow
Ella Purnell is beyond gorgeous
Ella’s one of my favorite young actresses.
Sweet Bitter was a gorgeous show. She killed it in that one.
The *flow* state appears in many activities, such a privilege for humans to live with this fact. ❤
She is phenomenal as Lucy.
Ella Purnell is so good in Fallout that I doubt the show would have worked as well with out it. She is the heart and soul of that show.
Very thoughtful and insightful responses. Hope to see her work for many years to come.
Great interviewer with interesting and fun questions, that made me subscribe instantly. That's how it should be done instead of always asking actors the same basic stuff like in many other interviews.
i love this format of interviewing. lots of time for detail, questions that feel craft specific
2 drop dead gorgeous brunettes talking about Fallout, like Lucy would say “Okey Dokey”!
Love this! Perri you always nail it! Ella is amazing! Great interview altogether 🫶🏼
Amazing interview!
Perri, you've done it again! The best interviewer out there. No question about it. The ease at which you make your guests feel, and the questions are always in depth and not the same. As a viewer, and fan its AWESOME to see. Thank you again for ALL that you do. You are so good at your job, and your energy and excitement makes your guests feel it.
She seems so cool! Makes me appreciate her acting more, between fallout and yellowjackets her characters have a pretty different vibe than Ella irl lol had no idea she was English
She also had a leading role in Arcane, one of the other few really good video adaptations out there. Ella voices Jinx in that one.
Love this interview!
I absolutely loved this, and loved both of them, I am a dude, but this is such a great example of what a ladies night is, I've seen it from afar, it's pretty nice hahahaha
I love that Okey-Dokey is now part of her daily vocabulary.
Sophie Nelisse was robbed of an Emmy nom. I know thats right! Ella gets it!
Amazing interview! Congrats, the only thing that was missing for me was Arcane! I thought she was going to talk about Arcane a little, but I will wait for another interview like this when Season 2 comes. Happy to see Ella.
This is such a fun and candid interview. Interviewer had great questions. Ella has great charisma she has a great career ahead of her.
The spy kids part hit home lol
She must be very professional and experienced to talk so relaxed and happily about the series after all these nightmarish scenes the authors have laid upon her character. What a cool person! 🤩👍
Ella is such a gem of a human! And the interviewer always kills it
Already finished the series, it was a pretty damn entertaining and thrilling show. The Ghoul definitely being my favorite character but every character is great to be fair, especially our main 3. Lucy and Maximus really grew on me throughout the show and ended up liking them a lot by the end. I would give the first Season a solid 8/10, I was not that familiar with the games, played Fallout Last Vegas (I think that what it was called) once way back on my PS3 and yeah but no nothing of the world really or it's lore ended up liking the show, definitely will be checking out Season 2 when it comes out.
Great interviewing
this was really fun! I wish there was a spoilery section where you could talk about the season in full. I want to know her thoughts about the finger, about her father & her mother on the show, what does the ghoul represent in Lucy's life!
I wish you get to do this again!
Best interviewer hands down
perri does it again
When they mentioned Beetlejuice, I freaked out! I actually got to see the Broadway touring show of it friday!!!
I met Justin Collette (The Beetlejuice actor) and a few of the other ones, I got pictures and autographs!
Ella has a smile and personality that would light up a room❤
I haven't watched Yellowjackets, I really should, it's on a list but when Fallout dropped it jumped the queue cause I used to sell Consoles and Games for about 9years of my life. Fallout was just one of those games that stuck with me and I am horrible at FPS and any shooter. The world is what won me over. I still have my 101 hoodie Bethesda sent to all the store managers prior to Fallout 4 release. So when I work a con at gaming vendors/stalls I wear it so people can find the gamer in the stall they can come to for questions regarding products. But then to see players come up to me in full cosplay and we just geek out, it freaken warms my heart.
Ella did amazing in the role of Lucy it really felt like a live-action cutscene in the game she was that good. It got me to pick up my game again after a while of not playing to just roam the wasteland all over again.
Great questions
Love her character and respect for the source material. 💙bravo!
For the rest of my life I will only hear "okey-dokey" in Ella/Lucy MacLean's voice...
0:56 I remember THATTT sick stick
I´m in love with Ella Purnell. Simply perfect.
drinking game idea, take a shot every time she says “thats a great question”
we stan Goosey Mcclane
she is adorable ❤❤❤
Since she's a lead in Fallout and Arcane, both well regarded shows, maybe they can fix that awful Halo show by casting her as Master Chief.
Ella Purnell would definitely give a much better performance, that's for dam sure.
She could make a good Linda or Kelly.
I like this lady already 😂
Absolutely incredibly satisfying interview 🙌🙌
Doesn't this feel like we have Lucy interviewing the actress who plays her ?
Great interview with one of my favourite actress. Here's to her career trajectory following Scarlett Johansson's breakout performance in Lost in Translation and Girl With A Pearl Earring
Scarlett hit it big pretty early. She broke out in the Horse Whisperer. It was several more years, though before she really started getting good adult roles.
@@GrahamCStrouse True. If we take Tim Burton as a taste maker; Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega... he cast Ella in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Similar to casting Aussie Bella Heathcote in Dark Shadows the general audience weren't buying it. Ella was lucky Sweet Bitter happened
Better than The Last
👍🏼
Okey doke!
❤❤❤❤❤
Did she get to keep a pipboy? Maybe one of the ones she broke 😂
16:50 "This All."
Ella talking about Lucy not daring to think she would become an overseer is because to her, her duty is to reproduce. It's a little disturbing given the fact that Lucy was so enthusiastic to finally be able to contribute to the vault that she didn't even care who she's marrying. It's a little disturbing because that's what really going to be for women in the post-apocalyptic world. But i do appreciate it, it's subtle and it was funny in the show but they still showed how awful it is to be in an apocalypse when you're a woman
Well that’s just for their vault since they were meant to breed and repopulate Earth. If you played the games you’d see other vaults had female scientists and overseer’s and what not. Had she been in a different vault she could have been an overseer or something else. But that’s why she believes that’s her main use.
Just finished watching Fallout, totally infatuated by Lucy, thinking "in real life she is probably boring, stuck up and arrogant" ............................................................................................. .. ....
So proved yourself wrong or..?
@@Thenewboidahlia definitely! 🥹
Ella trying not to pretend the sneeze fetishists exist. 😂
Im only who is crash ? 🥴❤️
Wife ❤
Agree the most beautiful woman I’ve seen, eyes so huge!!!
My god Ella is so beautiful and nice. Dream girl 😂
Sydney Sweeney is A tier, but Ella Purnell is S tier.
Why compare them?

The Wasp
She looks like the arquillian from men in black.
is it just me or does an american accent slip in and out
I noticed that, too.
You're not wrong. I heard it.
O.K Perri's you need to stop asking every guest on Ladies Night if they like Horror.
We know you're a huge horror fan, but horror is still a niche genre. Most actresses probably doesn't like even thinking about it.
is horror niche??
@@AlexHernandez-ni7eb You think it's not?
Perri likes horror. Perri is the interviewer. You're not Perri 😊
