I installed my lift a few years ago and I wanted to show you the clip of where I installed the AAL as well what I learned in the long run about them. It's something I feel is important for all us folks who want a lift. Here's a good 3 leaf AAL amzn.to/3ntl7KZ single leaf here amzn.to/2Gvbs6d good starter full leaf pack (you need 2) amzn.to/2SABI1o
My 4runner has been lifted for 3 weeks and I’m already looking into heavier springs. It’s built into our DNA. I’ve done same with my mountain bike, my road bikes, all my guns. That feeling you get after an upgrade you do yourself. When outside looking at it and your wife is shaking her head. Man it’s addicting. Guys like us will never be satisfied. I wish the buy once cry once would work for me. I’d be a rich man. I really enjoy your channel. Take care.
"Buy once, Cry once", good advice. I enjoy watching your videos as they offer insightful perspective on the evolution of your rig. I am about to start (mildly) building up my '21 TRDORSB and am using your posts as a general guide. Thanks for the videos. Cheers!
Seems there is nothing wrong with the Add a Leaf unless you'll need more load capacity later. Glad Rob made the video because I thought it was to explain why you shouldn't install an Add a Leaf, which is what I'm planning to do here in a few days to my truck. But on my case, I just want to lift about 1.5" on the back just to have the truck leveled with the front (lifted about 2.5") just to make it look even and add just a little bit more load capacity(not much at all). Plus I wouldn't mind having to do something else later if I decide that I want to have the truck lifted even more since I love working on my own cars in my garage anyways. I can save hundreds of dollars doing my own work, and knowing that I didn't get scammed by a mechanic not doing their job right. Unless it is something inside the engine or transmission, I do all the work on my cars. on my leveling kit(just about 2.5") I saved $600 just by doing it on my own.
A note to anyone installing an icon pack to a Tundra, main spring and overload are to stay in per instructions as of today. Jus received my pack and after watching many videos of ppl not following instructions I thought I'd drop this post.
I'm getting ready to do the Bilstein 6112/5160 lift also. I do want to keep the load leaf in there too. I saw another guy do that.. I think it will keep the truck at a better towing capacity if needed and get the true 2" instead of 1.5" lift in the rear. Did if ride really rough by leaving the load leaf in there?
I’m curious, I’m thinking about Add a Leaf to the rear of my 23 TRD Off Road 6’ bed only because I haul a lot of stuff in the bed of our truck for work around our property. I installed air shocks on my last truck but I got tired of adding air and reducing the air depending on what I was hauling
@@RobDaman I’ve thought about the Sumo’s, but from what I’ve heard from a lot of 3rd generation Tacoma owners is that when they haul heavier stuff over a period of time, the rear leaf springs get fatigued and begin to sink down making the Tacoma look like it’s hauling stuff even when it’s empty
Hey Rob I have a softopper and sleeping platform in the back all together comes to 200lbs. On camping trips I may add another 60lbs-80lbs but I can disperse some of that in the cab. Is that enough payload to lead me to want a whole new leaf pack? I also have sliders and a roof rack idk if that matters for leaf packs conversation. Love the video!
Great Job Brother. Nice to see you're finally catching up to me with the grey hair. LOLOLOLOL I don't feel so much like an old man now. Hey great points all, but what about flexing? What are the differences with each setup on that front? I'm all stock still on my Pro but scored a OEM leaf pack setup with an Icon AAL for free. I also have new coils for the front. I'm hoping this is all I need for a while. I'm already on skinny 33's and they are great off road so I don't need much lift. Just more strength for armor later on. Oh, I also have new Wheelers U bolt flip kit w/Superbumps. We were up in WVa last weekend on some medium trails. The Tacoma is amazing off road.
I have the AAK or Add A Kid mod. Every time my hair goes more gray. 😂 You can flex on a AAL no problem. I've done it. Free is always nice. Be sure to have help for the leaf pack. Make your life easier.
Thanks for the video, great tips. I have '19 TRD OR 4x4, planning to get Bilstein 6112/5160 combo. Can you comment if this will make the truck look level? Or does it need AAL. Very new to truck mods and off-roading, at the most I plan to install a bed rack to carry a RTT for occasional camping trips, but I wanted the truck lifted for my occasional light to medium duty off-roading. Appreciate your reply. Thanks again!!!
You can level the front but when adding weight you're dropping the rear. Doesn't take much weight to lower the rear leafs. I mentioned what I learned about weight and AAL
Ive got a '23 TRD off road (Dbl cab, long bed) and my local 4x4 center is recommending a toytec 2.25 progressive AAL 3 pac with sumosprings for about $1300 installed. If I'm gonna be running a construction cap, my tools and towing a work trailer do you think I should just bite the bullet and do a full pack swap? Appreciate the input!
it keeps from having too much negative bend of the leafs in case of too much load. depends on the manufacturer's directions to keep or remove. keeping it adds a slight amount of height.
I am curious about ride quality after adding the 3 leaf. I just had suspension re done and truck rides extremely smooth, which I dont want to ruin. My truck has camper shell on bed but not carrying any pay load of any kind. Will the 3 leaf stiffen rear up?
How much does it increase in height if I add the 3 leaf? I just bought a tacoma and I would like to add the 3 leaf, because I want it for my work where sometimes I need to carry material or heavy things but I also want it to look robust and tall

I run a 2 inch block in the back on my cement gray offroad. Little over a year No problems yet.

Shouldn't effect ride unless there's a big load which the leafs will normally invert.
Thoughts on adding new sumo bump stops in rear?
I think they're good if your load varies but if you know your weight will be static, it's best to match it with the proper leaf set up.
Can i take out the overload and add a single leaf instead?plus the icon add a leaf?thanks
Technically you can but it could give you a strange lift height and ride. A new full leaf pack is better if you're gonna have any payload long term
Hi. Where can I get the side stripe decal? Thanks
Can i used high speed (around 160-170km/hr)

hi
any additional weight will lower the suspension but you have more rear weight. full leaf pack is my recommendation for long term

So if I AaL to my truck will I need to upgrade the bump stop and shocks? Or can I keep those two stock. My truck has the off road package.
You can but if offroading heavily you should consider upgrading.
I’ve never been first at anything but today I am!
FIRST!
Do you need to change rear shocks when doing the AAL 3-pack?
Ideally you should get longer shocks especially offroading

With that amount of static load plus adding extra load by towing a full leaf pack is a better investment..
What is the overload spring and do you remove that when you add an aal ? I’ve seen some overload replacement aal’s

When you did your AAL did you use a shim?
No shim

Rob, did you go with medium or heavy leaf pack?
if you mean Deavers it was medium.
If you were to be able to change the past, would you rather get a WHOLE NEW leaf pack like a Dakar Leaf Pack instead?
