I lived in Schertz, Texas, which is northeast of San Antonio (no one from San Antonio EVER refers to it as "San Antone," it's always San Antonio) for over 20 years, and I worked in southeast San Antonio, so I drove by or through China Grove virtually every day, twice a day (to and from). It amazes me this "sleepy little town" captured the attention of the Doobie Brothers (i.e., the "real" Doobie Brothers with Tom Johnson as the lead singer), but even given the faux pas of "San Antone," this is one of my favorite songs EVER!

China Grove is a small town on the East side of San Antonio. The town apparently was named after a grove of Chinaberry trees that grew in the township. The Doobs had driven through the town on the way to a concert in San Antonio and, according to Tom Johnson, didn't even notice the name. He thinks it was a subconcious memory that he recalled the name of the town. (wiki)
