  • New year, new review, another brilliant kite!
    This time I'm riding the new Flysurfer ERA, a brilliant mix of power and responsiveness, that loops wonderfully.
    For more info on the Flysurfer ERA:
    flysurfer.com/project/era/
    As I mentioned in the video, due to the sporadic conditions in Cape Town during my time there in November, I was not able to test any of the kites I was hoping to so I'm going to make a point to reach out to the various brands in the coming weeks to see if I can line up a bunch of tests in 2024 during the New Zealand windy season, which goes from about June/July, until late October.
    With enough kites in the mix, this will lead to me being able to release more consistent reviews, and later in the year, the most comprehensive comparison I've done to date.
    Please like, subscribe, and leave a comment on what kites you'd like to see me review this coming year, and I'll do my best to get a hold of them.

    One thing I should have mentioned in the video that a few people have commented on: The bar was really comfortable in the hand, perhaps a little wider than I am used to but wasn't a significant detriment, and the lines have 17/20/23m options, so really great setup if you want to get into shorter lines and big angry low loops.

    I think a longer series and test window will be excellent. You really do seem to be an impartial tester, and your commentary is easy to follow. Would love for you to add a "fun to fly" metric to capture the magic that kites like the Dice and the Rise have, so we can compare that as well for those of us that pilot kites like sports cars.

    • @jasonofmontreal

      I would check out the get high with mike videos on jumping high... you'll need to work the most on your edging, being able to build up a lot of line tension and speed before you send the kite etc... I tend to ride my 12m from 15-22 knots, 10m from 20-30 knots, and my 8m from 25 and up, but that doesn't really mean there isn't some crossover as the wind changes over a session... I've cracked 18m on my 12m for example but it took over 30 knots to do it.

      @muklin 6 месяцев назад

      @@jasonofmontreal Thanks :) Yeah, I've watched about all there is to find online, including those 70Kg rider tutorials, (and even a few paid vids.) it was more of a qn of what changes when you're heavier. (you made mention you were over 100Kg in a prev vid, which made me listen even harder.)
      I think I also need new gear (but we're not all millionaires, or sponsored.)

    • @jasonofmontreal
      @jasonofmontreal  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@muklin having friends to kite with who are at your level is super helpful, it pushes you to try harder and can also be helpful if they notice bad habits you have. Newer gear will be easier, but it isn't holding you back too much... I had my first 20m jump in 2019 I think... it just took me another year after that to do it again... then a couple more years after that to do it consistently. The weight actually helps in big big winds

    Great proposal Jason! Hope many kite brands join in. And another great review.
    What do you think about adding some more areas to give grades to on the review if you get to test many kites over longer periods of time? For example to add a grade to the Low end windspeed of each kite in terms of looping, and possibly High end windspeed as well. Also durability/wear and tear of the kite after for example 20 sessions when looping a lot.
    P.S. I got myself a 10m orbit 23 and 8m nitro. Orbit is mostly for 20-25kn and the nitro for 24-32kn looping. From Ozone I own edge 11m v11 and no issues with bar pressure at all. No matter how strong the wind is.

      Unfortunately I tried these kites 8-10 months apart, but I found the 2023 Rebel sls I tried a little bit more plug and play in terms of sheet & go boosting, but the ERA is a bit faster and more responsive so although perhaps not as easy for most riders, it does have the nod in loops, and perhaps overall performance. Just a selfish suggestion 😅
    99% of people today is into big jumps and when is light wind, foil and wants just one queever.

      The kites that are designer for light wind aren’t really big air kites though so it’s a bit of a different thing to what I’m looking at. The Evo dlab of course has the best range and low end of all the kites I’ve tested which was a big factor why I spent so much money on 3 of them
