hellooo and welcome to a thrifting video in new york! I haven't been thrifting in nyc in so long, so I asked you guys on instagram for some suggestions on where to go, so in this video, I'm exploring a couple different thrift stores, and showing you guys a try on thrift haul!

Fun fact: if you ever go to Australia the chances of you running into a thrift shop are pretty much zero, we call the op shops (opportunity shops) and they're usually a lot smaller and cramped than ones in America and Canada and stuff, it is a lot cheaper though

L train is pretty good! There’s a couple locations in Bushwick that are pretty large. Urban Jungle is also a great thrift store to checkout and it is HUGE and the prices are usually $6-15 per item. Great vid!

Watching your New York vids made me feel so proud of you, of your growth and everything. I'm the same age as you and seeing you get out of your comfort zone, come out of your shell, try new things, and become more independent has inspired me SO much to want to do the same. Keep it up! I like your idea of making the crochet baby blanket into a halter top by turning it on the diamond angle. You could add a ribbon on the top corner for the halter & another couple of ribbons to tie it round your back. Looks cute & avoids having to cut the blanket 😘

if you can, just air out your crochet things. only wash when absolutely necessary and air dry very carefully. I think some washing machines have short cold water programs for very delicate items, that could work.

I crochet and honestly I literally just throw everything in the wash unless the yarn used for it needs to be washed a specific way so it kinda just depends what the yarn is of that top but I guess since it's handmade there's no tags lol. I wash all my clothes on cold anyway but for synthetic materials it doesn't really matter, just matters for natural stuff like cotton, wool, bamboo, etc. it's hard to tell what the yarn is from the video, it looks like it's too fuzzy to be cotton but maybe not acrylic because acrylic is usually a lil bit stiff/itchy but not always, could be polyester or it could be wool or something. I would say hand wash it to be safe if you're REALLY afraid of ruining it but I feel like just about any material could be washed in a machine with cold water just fine so as long as it's a well made top it should stay together, and then air dry it, to be extra gentle you can let it dry on a towel and kinda pat out some of the water with the towel.
also not to be That Guy but it's knitted not crocheted, common mistake if you don't do either lol. the other day my bf and I went to the thrift store and half the time there was a piece that looked like it was made of yarn he just went "is that crocheted" and I'm like "no that's knitted" lmao. I also didn't know the difference at first and there's still ways you can make crochet look knitted in a way :)

I think you should turn the crocheted baby blanket into a cami top. Crochet some straps for it and maybe lace up the back so that you and cinch it in to fit you more snuggly. And then just leave it long - like tunic length. Not everything has to be crop length. In that long length, it would look nice over a maxi/ankle length cottage type skirt.

loved this! about vintage and thrifting, the other difference is how old is old hahaha. Vintage technically is 25 years old or older (or a few seasons old, if we're talking about runway pieces) and not always cheaper than buying new, since some pieces are collectibles or unique. You can thrift fast fashion and newer clothes, but they are not vintage. And there will never be such a thing as "vintafe Forever 21", since vintage is also about the quality of the clothes and how unique they are. Of course, you CAN find vintage stuff while thrifting, is just not as curated, as you mentioned...

A tip for washing the crochet top would be to get those bags that you use to wash bras or lingerie and wash them on delicates, using cold water.

When I went to L train Vintage I didn't think it was worth traveling to, It kinda just seemed like overpriced used t-shirt graphic tees. It was also not crazy vintage graphics a lot of cartoons and random business, and a lot of stuff you could buy at goodwill for $3.
