    The Amarok really impresses me so far.
    They uses ABS/Traction control system to apply brakes on spinning floating wheels so that power is not wasted on wheels that are not touching the ground.
    This puts power on the wheels that are grounded and moves it forward even without added momentum.
    The Patrol is just old school 4x4 with large articulation and a special set of off-road tyres that gives more grip offroad.
    Amarok is better balance off-road and on-road. Because the vehicle has IFS and road going tyres.

      +James B These vehicles are such different animals, the balance will always come down to the owners requirements. Personally, and from an offroading point of view, I'm not a fan of the Amarok at all. They're great on highway but off road are seriously lacking torque, it's panels are too low begging to be hit on rocks, and the factory rear locker is weak. Traction control systems are handy for the casual driver but for regular off road abuse, nothing is as good as a locker.

      +James B I prefer Nissan Patrol, Has more traction and better rear and front balance. If you see Amarok always has the lef or right tire in the air.

      yocaha1 I think that the Amarok is innovative as it is able to keep up with a full-fletch off-roader with less articulation, lesser power and without a low-range gearbox. Plus, the car is way more comfy.
      As for the traction control system in Amarok, I would argue that it is better because it is easier to drive and equally effective. I mean with this system you never lose steering control. Unlike a lock-diff, which as to be activated manually and turn off as soon as possible so that you won't strain the drivetrain.

    The VW traction control is one of the most refined around, along with the virtual diff lock computer program, but at the end of the day you can't beat the solid and predictable feel of mechanical lockers.

    • @glenep
      @glenep  10 лет назад +1

      Couldn't agree more. TC is a fantastic out of the box solution for the common traction issues people face on the trails, but when you want to go serious *regularly*; diff lockers ;-)

      Bmw also make some pretty effective tcs, also land rover but only in the “real” 4x4 not the haldex, i don’t know why tho

    Both 4x4s are impressive, well done boys. Hope there's good under-body protection on that VW, that was a decent bang haha.

    The front Recovery point on the Amarok. Where and who fitted it. I would love to know as I'm finding it hard to find out.

    • @69rollarok
      @69rollarok 9 лет назад +1

      Front recovery point custom made. Fitted by 69rollarok in Sydney. I could make one but it will set you back $2k and is not approved. Transfers load to chassis members. I can winch off the front or back using a 9000Lb cradle winch.

    The amarok comes standard with rear locker. Yes the traction control works at the front with the locker on.

      You would think there would be very few occasions you would require front lockers given that is the case. Becoming a big fan of the Amarok.

  • @mikkamon
    @mikkamon 10 лет назад +1

    That amarok certainly likes getting on three wheels.. is that just because of he's driving line?

    • @glenep
      @glenep  10 лет назад +1

      By comparison to the Patrol I'd say the main factor is a limited amount of articulation available in the Amarok's suspension. It's a common drawback to IFS vehicles when traversing uneven terrain - and affects some IFS vehicles more than others.

    Just came back from first trip with my amarok. Love it. However, have that same clunking/cracking noise when the rear wheels/suspension get up high over rough terrain. Horrible noise. Is this normal???

    • @glenep
      @glenep  9 лет назад +1

      I don't own an Amarok but it does seem to be a common thing. Do take it easy on the rear drive line as the factory locker seems fragile and a very expensive repair.

    • @glenep
      @glenep  5 лет назад

      I think it was manual, but the low gear is pretty pathetic, one of the weak points of the Amarok IMO. Goes great on roads though.

  • @mftgdeserteagle
    @mftgdeserteagle 10 лет назад

    Doesn't the patrol have lockers? Also, does the Amarok TC control the front axle while the rear locker is on or does engaging the diff lock disable the TC?

    • @glenep
      @glenep  10 лет назад

      These Patrols don't come standard with lockers, only a rear LSD. Hopefully one of the Amarok fans can answer your TC question...

    • @136Hammer
      @136Hammer 10 лет назад +1

      I believe my Amarok tc controls all 4 wheels unless you select rear diff lock, then the tc is only on the front. The tc takes a second to find the grip where the lockers get instant traction, but it's easier to maneuver with tc than diff lockes.

    Hey I'm an Amarok owner. Have a manual. What mods have you made to the Amarok? I want to get it into some heavier off-road stuff like you're doing here. Mine is currently stock. How much did you lift it and what size wheels did you go to?

    • @glenep
      @glenep  8 лет назад

      +potsy231983 Amarok has 32's, rear locker, traction control and 35mm suspension lift (King/Bilsteins). I filmed it, not sure if the driver checks here anymore.

    .......nun ja.....der Amarok ist schon ein sehr vernünftiges Auto....besonders in seiner Variablität.....gegenüber den meisten anderen Geländewagen.....zumal er im Alltag auf Grund seiner Vielseitigkeit....Auf- u. Anbauten anpassungsfähiger ist....als zum Beispiel der G von Mercedes Benz den ich selber mit langem Radstand gefahren habe......und einfach nicht die modernen Eigenschaften besitzt die die heutigen Geländewagen haben.....stammt er aus den 70iger Jahren d. v. Jahrhunderts.....fahre ich heute einen California, weil ich andere Ansprüche habe......
