    I have had several mechanics tell me that a 2010-2014 Toyota Avalon’s some of the best cars ever made. Most of them got over 500k miles.
    I know several families that only buy cars used during these years. . And the families own several of them that have over 4-500k miles with very little maintenance.

    I'm still trying to understand why Toyota, knowing that people buy the 4runner specifically for the death and taxes reliable dinosaur 4.0, would bother changing it. I got 503k zero trouble miles outta my old 98 Jeep Cherokee XJ before it rusted out and would have paid anything to replace it my mechanic told me the 4runner is the only suv that'll even come close to reliability so I bought one LOVE IT and beyond pissed off they've destroyed it. I'm going to buy a 2023 this summer trade in my 2016 just to ensure I've got the last great real 4runner until I retire.

      the answer is always emissions regulations. toyota retooled their entire operation to focus on hybrids, that's why you see all the same powertrains across the 4runner, tacoma, land cruiser etc. if they didn't have to meet asinine emissions numbers i bet anything they'd keep a natty V6 in their 4x4s

    Toyota marketed the Avalon as a large car. In my opinion compared to another large car the Buick Lesabre it fell short. The Lesabre had the 3.8 liter V-6 engine which was one of the best engines ever made. It also had a 4 speed overdrive transmission which was also very good. I still see 20 year old Lesabres driving down the road today.

    I can tell you another reason why the Avalon failed. I love my 2000 Avalon, it was the best car ever owned. Then I owned a Toyota Venza for 13 years, and missed my Avalon the whole time. so, in 2019 I was ready to buy a new Avalon, but I discovered I could not physically fit inside the car. They shrunk it down so much that way I had one cheek on the seat, the metal of the door frame was hitting me in the ear.. I was so disappointed because I had my heart set on another Avalon. I don’t know if it would’ve opened up once I got inside, because I’ve had back surgery and I can’t do yoga to get in..

      I've got the same issue, 5 mile round trip to work and due to a gdi turbo engine, had to get my intake walnut blasted for the second time in 100,000 miles. Find the longest route possible and take that instead. If you have an auto with a manual shift mode, keep it one gear lower than the top gear it would normally get to when traveling at speed...I also live in the north where we see 0 degree mornings, hence the keep it one gear low comment... during all the other seasons I just let the trans shift normally.

    I have plastic ramps! I did have metal ramps at one point but they got way too heavy as I got older. The plastic ramps have honeycomb design on the underside inside so it won’t collapse when you drive on it, but I always back the car up a couple feet put the ramps up against the tires and then 2 foot it up the ramp, I have my foot on the break and the and just creep up the ramp you know when you get to the top because it flattens out and then there’s a stopper on the end!

    I've always heard that Ford used the crate that the transmissions came in to make the floorboards for the model T. The story goes that he designed the crate. And the transmission maker said I'll make the crate any way you want. So the crate is delivered to Ford he removes the transmission pulls out some screws and bingo it's a floorboard. True? Who knows but a good story.

    • @derekgardin1512
      @derekgardin1512 20 дней назад

      I wouldn't bother with it tbh. The old naturally aspiratedV6 was perfect. They made a mistake. But they want planned obsolescence... not vehicles that are bulletproof and last 30 years with regular maintenance.

    • @derekgardin1512
      @derekgardin1512 20 дней назад

      That's partly why they've all extended oil change intervals to 15k or 20k. They want to sell it as ' it doesn't need much maintenance, so you'll save money!' .... ya and your engine will be burning oil at 100k.
      My 2013 Focus 2.0L has 400,000km. Synthetic every 5000km (3000 miles) car runs like a top and burns no oil at all.
