Tried adjusting, didn't work. As usual I went onto Toyota Forums and someone advised to actually remove the whole mechanism, this advice was listed as part of a previous Toyota advisory on the problems associated the back window not going down. Hey presto it now works! I knew there was power going to the motor because I could hear it clicking when I operated the button. Never had problems with rear wiper or heated window. One or two people on the forums mentioned the motor doesn't have that much power and struggles so good idea is to keep the rubber the window slides up along well lubed. Did this as well as spraying electrical cleaner on all of the connections and lubing everything else where appropriate. I really hope it's the last time I have to pull off that rear panel, removed several times previously when dealing with the infamous broken latch. Amazes me that Toyota make such great engines and transmissions but sometimes fall short on the peripheral stuff.
Good info, Robb! I saw a TSB or something on removing it as well, but then I saw this slightly easier hack. I'm going to pin your comment so everyone knows that if the adjustment doesn't work, to go ahead and remove the device..... And I feel the same about Toyota ... except the 1zz-fe engine.
Had the latch problem, too! RUclips vid to the rescue saved me at least $400 to get it looked at/replaced. The this video saved me more, did not have to dismantle /replace everything- just 2 bolts! -- thankful !!!
I rode around for 2 years with the window stuck in the up position thinking I had to replace the motor. This fix took me less than 30 minutes and saved me money. Thank you! You're a life saver. Now im on to the next project because if you're like me your work never ends.
OMG!!!! I have been trying to get this fixed for 3 years!!! Even stumped my mechanic!! Started with saying the window wiper motor needed to be replaced but it didn't seem right to me.... However, I replaced the motor anyway, and nothing... Finally saw this video and a simple 15 minute fix and BAM working again!! Thank you very much! So glad I didn't go through the huge pain of trying to change the window motor!
The rear window is one of the best features in the first generation Sequoia. It only took a few days of not having it operating to figure out how to fix it. Thanks to your video it took about 25 minutes to get it back to normal operation. 🙏🏼
After several years thinking my motor was broken, tried this fix because I had nothing to lose. Thank you for the easy step by step process. This fix worked! You have saved a lot of money for so many viewers, keep up the good work and god bless!
just did this repair on my sons 2003 Sequoia, and it WORKED! SO glad i came across this video! Next on the list is to figure out how to fix the horn issues. Have a good one!
Another believer on board. Figured the window motor was kaput and prior owner just didn’t care to fix it, but this adjustment did the trick for both opening from keyhole and push button on dash. Many thanks, kind sir.
Spot ON!!! THANK YOU. Our window quit working a couple of years ago, I let it go figuring OLD age got it. My Sequoia is 2004, and I did not want to put a lot of money into it. I found your video. I was BLOWN away, worked perfectly after the adjustment. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! New subscriber to the channel.

Thank you so much for this video! I have a 200 Sequoia Limited with 274,000 kilometers and the rear window was the only electronic not working, opened up the panel as per the instruction in your video and Voila miraculously the rear window is now going up and down with ease. Thank you so much for this DIY!
I tried it and it worked like a charm. My rear window now works again. It stopped working so long my wife and kids didn’t even remember it could be lowered 😂. Thanks for sharing 🙏
Man bro you are the best!!!! 6 months my windows been stuck up and my rear hatch doesn't open after watching this video my window works again!! Thank you
If you’re in there with everything taken apart, spray some lube down the side of rails and all moving mechanisms to prevent sticking or tension. I repaired the latch once and since everything was open I sprayed PB Blaster White grease to lube it all up. Worked a lot smoother. Also cleaned all the gunk buildup from previous years and a lot of sand from beach adventures. 🤙🏾
Just fixed mine with this workaround, thank you. Side note: if the battery is low, the rear window won't move if the vehicle is not running (but ignition in "on" condition). I thought the attempt to repair it didn't work, but I randomly tried it again while driving and presto. Now it works perfectly at all times
Awesome video dude. Funny thing is until I opened it I realized the last "Toyota Certified Mechanic" at a Dealership adjusted the same screws and charged what I can't write on here. I can see the spot where they adjusted it. Did exactly what you showed and made sure the bolts were tight. Works like a charm. Can't thank you enough.
This video is the best! Straight to the point and very detailed! It worked for me! My rear window would work only intermittently and now it works perfectly and i can now use the rear window now 😬 you my friend are a life saver
This worked for me. I was having problems already with the lift gate not working then all of a sudden the window wouldn't work. I thought it was the switch and was going to replace it when I came across this video. I made the adjustments and tried the switch. The son of a gun went down and was working just as it should. Thank you!!!
Great video, and the fix worked to get the rear window working again on my '02. Thank you - that saved me time and money! I have one question for you or your viewers. Presumably, this part serves some purpose, and the adjustment is also part of the design for some purpose. Does anyone know if there is a "correct" position to use? For me, I just pulled the part all/most of the way down, tightened it at that position, and it worked, so that's how I left it, but that seems a little arbitrary to me. Appreciate any feedback, and thanks again for posting a great time- and money-saving video!
Just wanted to say what a great video this is. I have an 02 Sequoia and had this issue before which usually was the weather strip just adhering to the window but after prying between it and the glass my issue persisted. Luckily I found this video and ended up having the same issue you did. Thanks for the help.
Thank you, the rear window had not worked for a while and a long time ago I opened the panel to move the circuits, I was thinking about buying a motor, but I watched your video and I did it and it worked again, thank you
The list goes on and on, and we all agree. Great video man, liked the info., the antics, hilarious sounds and all. Gonna fix mine this weekend and move on to the next project too. Thanks bro.
This works perfect! Big thanks! I had to take mine apart to replace the rear glass (just $179 with free shipping) and needed the window to go up and down for that procedure so this was a lifesaver procedure. If anyone is having the issue with the handle not working well on the liftgate you can add 20 cents of washers to the cable and it will fix that also while you are already in there !!!
mine's not working for like 10yrs, Toyota fixed it once but then the problem came back a few weeks later. I replaced the latch before but never knew about this Thank you so much.....

Love the directional arrows and the music
Thanks Gabe!
You’re a life saver
Awesome solution. Thank you 🙏🏽
Just wanted to say thank you, fixed my rear window in my new to me 03 limited in about 20 min
Nice!! Glad to hear it!
Did you replace the moisture barrier? Could use butyl tape?
I didn't have a moisture barrier. Just the black metal cover that had maybe acoustical caulk or weather-stripping (I can't remember which) around it. It looked like no moisture had ever been inside there, so I wasn't worried about it.
Are you a wizard????? My rear window finally works!!
Awesome. Glad to hear it, JP!
whats that thing that you've removed on 2:11?
Thanks for the video, saved me lots of aggravation 👍👍👍👍
You save me so much time and money thank you!
Great to hear!
