Vince is a super cool cat and you should get to know him.

Had the privilege of knowing him almost 20 years now. Nice interview.
I think a lot of people forget or just don't know that Waylon was a rock n roller when he first started out
Many years back, here in Georgia. Along with a small group of friends, went to a Waylon concert. Tony Joe White and band led off the concert. We had seats on the very front row. By the time Waylon came on we were pretty soused. About half way through the show, Waylon introduced the band. Once he got finished with introducing his guys, one of my friends (wasn’t feeling any pain), hollered out at Waylon. “Well who are you???!!!”
Waylon looked straight at my friend and said, “ Who the hell you think I Am boy!!!”🤣we laughed for years about that!!!! Thanks Otis! Peace
Billy Joe Shaver was the third person there on the bill when Waylon blew up the club. He told me the story years ago before a show in Philadelphia.
I think that was a different time, when Waylon blew up a barn. Not a ticket booth
@@frankruether4284 yes! you are correct. my bad. apparently Waylon blew up a lot of stuff.
Yea i was going to say Ive heard Shaver talk about it but I guess if you have dynamite in your bus you prob used it a few times.

You might never know when a tree stump might need a 1/4 stick to have it removed 😉
Not sure if the source being Billy Joe makes the story more or less reliable 😊
Old 97s, such a great band.
yeh i heard them.on the radio yesterday
I had the privilege of seeing Waylon open for Willie at Red Rocks (Colorado) +/- '75. Waylon was amazing and wrung out the audience like a sponge....Waylon and his Outlaw Band were unbelievable, so tight. Willie came out and was great but Waylon stole the show and drained the energy out of the crowd. Thanks Otis & Vince I enjoyed the show, you're appreciated brother.
Waylon could say just about anything, whether he truly believed it or not. Being contradictory may have become one of his signature attributes.
Did he like country music? Not all of it for sure. Ya have to remember his admiration of Jimmie Rodgers, and especially Hank Williams to know that country was at his core. He had quite a talent for song selection... and what genre was that?
Thanks Otis!
I was backstage at what was then called the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando for a country concert. I heard David Allan Coe tell a younger performer that "Jesus taught us to get 50% up front and the rest now!" Experience is a great teacher!
Leftover Salmon - " Sweet Home Margaritaville' !! Wow Otis - didn't see this one comin.. Thanks again..
Nothing better than eating Thanksgiving dinner, taking a nap, and going out for some Pasta on the Mountain and some " Rise Up" for dessert. Love me some LOS.
He sure wouldn’t like the pop country we have now either yo. Thanks for another video!
Always wondered if you knew Vince. Thank you for this one! 🙌🏻
I'm so glad vince has had the success he has had over the years. My dads record store was one of if not the first to carry his music he played our house warming party when they were still the salmon heads
Vince tells a good story.😊 Thanks to you both.
This is an awesome interview as always, thanks for posting.
One thing, *Live at Vanderbilt University* is a 1963 Flatt and Scruggs album, not one of the later projects with Earl’s kids.
Thank you for these stories. It was not unheard of that musicians in the old days carried a piece as back up insurance. Keith Richards said where-ever cash was on hand there could be trouble and his example was the produce market with incoming product which attracted a criminal element.
it was pretty much unheard of not to have one. Many promoters were on a different vibe then. My dad had this super old cowboy pistol he used to tell me was for when he had to sleep in the car and dodge the haters in the deep south.

The same story is ongoing, only difference now are the current names of the people to be concerned.
This is a fantastic interview!
Love your interviews

Vince and the rest of the leftover crew are top notch good people. Ive seen them more times than i can count. From tampa to Cleveland to denver and just about everywhere in-between throughout the the years. Always accessible to the fans and if the timing is right he'll spend some time and tell a story or two. And man can they play! Good people to know or to know of. Thanks Otis. 🙏
I love Waylon.
One of my first "*dirtbag hippie" crushes.
*(I am mocking my own description, made when I was 16. I am not disparaging anyone's and certainly never Waylon's choice in coiffure).
Great Video Otis, another one, Even got a Bill Cower name drop !
Awesome!
The Allman Brothers' road manager Twiggs Lyndon killed a promoter in Buffalo in 1970 over $500 owed the band. He pled temporary insanity, spent time in a mental hospital.
A side bar here: Johnny Cash sang a very funny song called The Singing Star’s Queen.
He mentions “Waylon” a few times in it.
1972-73?…Albuquerque New Mexico…Go to see minor league baseball “The Albuquerque Dukes”…And as luck would have it was “Nickel Beer Night” at the stadium.
Goes without saying that the whole stadium was floating on nickel beers… Don’t remember if the Dukes won.
Then at the end of the game a flatbed truck rolled out onto the field (didn’t know anything about music being part of the night) an announcer came it and said… ladies and gentlemen, let’s give a warm welcome to Waylon Jennings!!!
Being from NY I said…Who?
Well, from the instant he started singing I became an instant fan and one night it was the nickel beers kept flowing, and the night went on and on.🍻
I grew up in Southern Pittsburgh too! I'm *still* growing up there. I don't recall Archie's on Route 51 (the ugliest road in America) but there's a lot I don't recall. 😀 Southern Rock was King back then, that's for sure.
Jesus, imagine being on a project where Earl Scruggs hangs out to meet the next guy on the project!!! Man I live right down the road from his old stomping grounds!!!
Jesus is Lord.
If he did t like country music , he sure was DAMN good at it !
Hey, a fellow Pennsylvania guy! Hope yinz had a good time!
Maybe my memory is deceiving me, but I'm pretty sure Billy Joe Shaver told that story about the dynamite, but it wasn't DAC that blew it up, it was Waylon.
Heard the same story. Waylon showed Shaver the hidden compartment on his bus where he had a stash of dynamite. He said Waylon ran his hands over it and spark lit up said scared him s#%&less
Louise Scruggs sounds like as much of a pioneer as her husband- if not more so. I've heard a few stories about her and they are always positive.
Did he say "The Manson Nixon line"?
He most certainly did... I believe a nod to George Carlin?
"Southern" Pittsburg. Love it!
❤❤❤
How do you find these great people with these stories?
This guy HAS TO BE Otis in disguise
So Otis is interviewing Otis
Vince will make a good Santa one day.
I know a lot of musicians, but not one who still carries pocket dynamite.🧨
Baptists and Johnson grass are taking over!
What’s the name of the album that they made?

I wish Waylon's music would make another resurgence.
Then, maybe his RV park in Littlefield TX would get a facelift.
👌🙏😞😎
Did he say MANSON on purpose ?
when its time to go,
too funny!!
I'm you now 🤣
Waydog
The first story he told. It wasn’t David Allen Coe. It was Billy Joe Shaver. Waylon blew up the barn cause the promoter refused to pay them.
He was probably being coy, he hated pop country or Nashville sound, but he loved Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers and others. I don’t think you can become/maintain being a country music superstar if you disliked the music you played
It's interesting I am a huge Waylon fan . He said some interesting things. I heard him say Hank Jr made Hank Sr. look like a sharecropper. I was shocked to hear it, I thought Sr. was his idol/role model. I also heard him say he only liked 2 songs by Bob Bills. Who Knows? I do know when they have a list of the 10 greatest country artists of all time, Waylon needs to be on it.
