I genuinely can't believe they rejected this; it would have added a whole new layer to Shane's character and made it so much more heartbreaking.

@@John-jt4ol it would've made sense too. Rick came back for Shane when they were trying to leave the prisoner so its not too far off to say Shane never really wanted to kill his friend.
Love how Laurie Holden starts to rub his back when Jon starts to get upset when the interviewer checks his phone. he deserves respect.

At the end when Rick kills Shane, Rick finds out that Shane's gun never had any bullets, showing that Shane never wanted to kill Rick.

To be honest I was expecting this ending version to be crap.... but after hearing it I am WOWed. That would have been a VERY, VERY, VERY good ending. In fact this should have been THE ending. This would have turned EVERYTHING on its head and explains how Rick behaves in Season 3. They should have used this one 100%.
By the way Shane's character is easily the best Walking Dead character and one of my favourite screen actors of all time.

I'll summarize for you, exact same situation, but Shane didnt load the gun, he was just egging Rick on....So when rick kills Shane, and needs another gun to kill ZOmbie Shane, he takes shane's gun which is empty.
Thats really poetic. Shane was kind of suicidal and this added to the character, and at the same time, harkens back to the fact thay Shane loved rick too, and didnt want to kill him.
Did anyone notice if Shane want Rick died, Rick will died as well. I mean why the fuck you must take someone gun when your gun it's all ready in target head.

i dont rven think shane was suicidal i think it was old shane knowing he cant take ricks family mixed with nee shane knowing old rick cant protect his family so in shanes head he would sacrifice himself to restore a family he broke while leaving behind someone who can protect them as good if not better than he could

i hated when jon got killed off!!! but it would have been mind blowing and even harder to take his death if they had done it the way he described... dude is a great story teller.. his idea was pretty brilliant.. id like to see him in a show that he writes himself one day.. hes got talent.. not just on screen

He didn't get fired, his character was killed pretty early on in the comic books... by the sixth issue actually. Surprised it didn't happen sooner. He's lucky he made it to the end of season 2.
stories of all these dropped idea from the actors in the transition of frank darrabont getting the boot really pisses me off. It seems like there season 1 originals from the atlanta camp were meant to be kept around longer than they were.

awh that ending would have been so much better but it would have been hard to get the audience to know that rick was using shames gun.

The panel host was checking his cell phone for the time and Jon thought he was bored and looking at his phone.

I think this is a great ending but the original death of Shane is Also good, if he tried to kill Rick in a coward way like shooting him when he dont look or something It would be horrible but Shane was trying to prove Who is stronger to be the leader of the group and for Lori and Carl. Is more like a duel than a murder

In my opinion this ending is still kind of canon look at shanes face when he was pointing his gun at rick he looked sad ash he wanted rick to kill him

The ending is still there, the idea is that Shane was too far gone, when Rick is wailing over Shane’s corpse he realizing this world is what made Shane crazy. Not Lori, not Carl, not Rick taking them, he had hella ptsd after killing Otis, he wasn’t the same

It got rejected because the type of gun Shane carries doesn't go "CLICK'CLICK'CLICK". If there was a reason to make him carry a gun that did though, it would have been so nuts.
He carries a Glock so it would click one time and then it would have to be racked again. This would make no sense.
This is canon in my opinion
Why didn't they write it like that? Shane went out like a total bad guy (wich I wanted because he did Ricks wife and I hated that from the beginning) but if they actually played it with no bullets in his gun it would have been more meaningful, it would have been even better! way better!

Good idea, but couldn't have happened that way. After Shane killed Randall, he hid his gun in the woods and grabbed T-Dog's gun. So T-Dog's gun should have already been empty, which it wasn't.
Jon's finale was awesome!! Wish it really happened :)
Not saying Rick didn’t go through enough to turn the way he did in season 3 but this really would’ve made Rick seem more unhinged and dangerous to others, including when he pinned Glenn to the wall after Lori died.
The crew wanted to make it more ambiguous. Shane could still have been trying to commit suicide if you want.

just finished season 2 and im so sad and angry they killed shane. Deserved to survive longer... carried the first two seasons and waste of a potential
