As always, this is a first look video. We will visit it again at another time. Will need to evaluate how it handles against other aircraft.
Hey WhooptieDo, after the new update I flew my Etendard and was shocked to find that it all of the sudden can turn really well. I do not know if it is. A bug or a buff but I was even able to dogfight and beat a mig17. So it check it out if you are interested on how that piece of junk can all of the sudden clap the cheeks of a commie. Farewell
"Crit" does precisely jack
"Hit" immediately sends him into a death spin
I still don't understand how the new "Critical Hit" works as when I get a crit on other prop's engines it seems like their engine is completely fine and are still able to dogfight like nothing happened
To add to that, it's frustrating when you get an "enemy destroyed" but he still can shoot and kill you while you don't get any extra points if you keep shooting at him and shoot him down definitively
More likely due to his aggressive defensive flying. Depending on the damage, pulling full elevator can send you into a flat spin in some planes.
Me: yay critical hit
Gaijin: enemy suffers of damage to the left gear leg

"HIT" - take the wing tip off but for some reason it's not a crit, while gear damage and flaps is;
Enemy goes into a spin and crash;

When you damaged someone and it crashes but it doesn't give you anything, no kill nor assist
It also happened sometimes when I critted someone and it crashed few seconds later
This game is broken in so many ways, I swear

I'm so glad I made the effort to grind F100A before the patch dropped. Every match right now comes down to all subsonics getting shafted and it's up to the 9.3/9.7s to carry

let me put it this way, aside of F104s that will sooner or later be all put at 10.0 Demon faces the exact same enemies as Cougar ... because Cougar gets uptiered to at least 9.0 ALL THE TIME ...
dont know about you people but ill take Demon over Cougar any day of the week because that plane simply does NOT belong in 9.0 matches while the Demon fits in 9.0-9.7 (aside of the F104s of course) perfectly
At least the F9F-8 doesnt have to face the G.91 YS.

11:04 damn the sound was so epic when the 104 broke the soundbarrier and flew past you
Had to fight the 2 F-104Cs squaded together with a friendly sabre. It was difficult until one of them landed, then we forced it to stay on the runway and had to run the other out of fuel to win. We couldn't catch them or touch them until that happened, at which point the F-104 still in the air started panicking. This was my first and only victory against an F-104 so far.
Its very annoying. I just had to do the same thing in my Su7

Then it would need to be 10.0. AIM-9D have no place at this br

That's probably the only Plane I looked forward in this patch, and I guess I won't be disappointed with its performance
Im amazed the 104 is 9.7 and not 10.0 and the br raised to 10.7. Honestly. Raising the br to 10.7 or even 11.0 will fix soooo many issues. Why cant gaijin see that

Had not so much issues with the 104 yet. Died much muuuuuuch more to the su7b, often seeing it with 5 kills and even more.

AIM-9Bs have a very specific WEZ, they are really best for non-maneuvering and total unaware targets. Preferably within one mile. I mostly play sim, where they do honestly work more reliably, but I managed a kill per winder the other day with them in realistic. It's all about picking your targets carefully. The 104 will catch you, but she can just run around at mach .93 in burner basically forever. Spent a lot of time intercepting Vatours on the deck because they think the only threat they actually have before pickling off is the 104. They are wrong.
Beware tho, she rips her flaps at a really low speed. I tore my flaps this morning in sim at 190kts on landing, which basically immediately killed me since it flipped me over and into the soil.
Everyone at 9.7> versing F104s is how British pilots have been feeling for ages when they're gotta deal with F4s and MiGs in their subsonic Hunter F6...

Kinda shocked that the F100D is 10.0 but the F104 is 9.7
Please play this plane in the current matchmaking, it is so overpowered if you play it right which I know you can. The only thing that actually could do something against you is F100s and Mig21s but they are easy to handle. Everything that can outturn you you can outrun and climb and for everything faster you can easily outturn, it even outturns MIG17s.
Back in the game! The radar I think is undervalued; Once you are used to using one not having it feels jarring in jets. Ahhhhh, one more step closer to the F-14 dream....

I think they should give the US F-104A better missiles, flares, and the 1968 engine upgrade and send it to 10.0, not sure what to do for the other 9.7s but I'm sure they also carried flares and better missiles.

My mig-17 isn't killing, my F-2 isn't killing, and my 262's aren't killing.... I get a nice reversal, "crit", can't put that in a montage :/
Not something that benefits a lot of people, but it also has the nice benefit of having absolutely fantastic cockpit visibility, too.

Redtops are not dodgeable unless you're in something supersonic.. With a huge elevator and a high cruising speed.

I actually disagree with a lot of the stuff in this video. I think the demon is more than just good, I think it’s a fantastic plane and my favorite 9.3 in the game, and I can handle F-104s in it, because I save my missiles for when I need to use them, I don’t just spam them, and spamming them isn’t what you should be doing, saving them is what you should be doing for the right moment to fire them

I can't for the life of me aim these guns consistently.
I honestly havent had a problem dealing with the F-104's in the g91 ys i just dodge them and quickly shove a missile up their tail pipe and since they cant turn Ive had really good luck getting missile kills on them
I personally give my kill away when I’m the last one in my f104 but also I don’t think there’s any other place a f104 could fit so for now this is good I guess
Wow great demo on energy fighting too.
I watch the video again and realized how AIM9B's are so slow that they barely catch the subsonics on the deck.
They still lose huge amount of speed during high g maneouvres.
It's not so much that they are slow, but that they are short range. They burn out around 1.5 and coast the rest of the way.
If 11.0 didn't have to be a thing before, it does now
Today I logged onto War Thunder somewhat excited for the new fancy 10.0 aircraft, so I decide to take out my favorite jet, the A-5 and to my horror I was forced to face F104s that can fly by at 1.5 Mach without me having a chance to get my guns on after a reversal, at first I was like eh at least I can dodge the darts... that’s when the SU-7s came in I could reverse all I want, I couldn’t do anything... they were booming and zooming past Mach, the A-5 is a great fighter against MiG-15s and Sabres but being forced to face jets that can keep pace with a F4 or a 21 is a slaughter
Better yet, when gaijin bumps the american 104s to 10.0, I suspect all the 104s are going to be absolutelly worthless facing the current 10.3s. MiG-21s, F4s and Mirrages can EASILY defeat these things with their missiles. The 104 should have come to the game years many months ago, now they're just food for the missile meta.
Make sure to boom and zoom, Or just don't let 104's get behind you. If they are fast just reverse. it's pretty ez. They are just a nuisance to me.
@Aleluia I think it would be good for the f104s to go to 10.0 and so should the SU-7 and gaijin should make a 10.7 where the F4s, Drakens, and 21s can fight without meeting the worse 104s so 10.0/10.3 can be for lesser super Sonics,
@@davidmayes8563 There are so many people already playing 8.7-9.3 and 10.3 that creating these extra brs wouldn't make much of a difference. I think 104s are impossible to balance right now, they are untouchable by anything 9.7 and below and they're food for anything above 10.0. Besides the chinese variant, which gets AIM-9Js, 104s were dead on arrival. Should've been added a long time ago.

Hanz55 I’ve spaded it and loved the whole experience, it’s a great plane with the only problem being the rudder, but you can work around it quite easily

I don't think the plane got a massive buff, I think the matchmaking changed a bit. Plane itself feels the same, but facing less F5's is nice.

The easiest jet kills I’ve ever gotten were on F3Hs that blew their speed in a fight. If u fly this plane stop doing it....or keep doing I guess, free sl for me lol.

This thing is quite a bit faster than a Mig15, so unless you catch them with their pants down, you won't get it easily.

F104 strictly does not belong at 9.7, I don't care if they only carry 2 Aim9Bs lol, the mig21F13 is the same fucking thing and it's 10.3, thing needs to go to 10.0.
And from my experience at 10.0 it does well but only if you play with a squadmate in an F104 together, it's a pack hunter.

Can you do a video on any of the 10.0 F-104 (Minus the chinese one that gets the AIM-9Js)? I really want to see what this thing is capable of, because all I can do is fly in a straight line and get killed by a Mirrage from 5km away.

Yes and no. If it's radar actually worked they'd be viable.... But it's extremely hard to get a good angle since you're moving so fast.. And missiles seem very inconsistent this patch.

Keep up, no, but it can handle against the Su7 pretty well since the Su7 CAN'T maneuver very well.

He won’t touch the lightning since he did his review saying that it was over performing. He also thinks it was an awful plane irl similar to Defyn. However It only over performed above 3-4km altitude, and was underperforming to a significant degree in low altitude performance. Its VNE speed is still far too low and has been big reported many times. It’s missing a few hundred pounds of thrust close to around a total of 720lbs. It’s now underperforming at high altitude. It’s Firestreaks and Redtops don’t have their Irl performance either, they should pull 15G and 18-20Gs respectively as well as having a faster maximum speed and longer range. Another problem is the redtops should be limited all aspect when enemies are close to mach one. There’s all the bugs with this plane, all of these issues are directly from the bug reports on the forum and from the flight manual and other primary sources. Don’t forget on top this the plane and it’s missiles is from 1965 not the mid 1970s like the F-4E and MiG-21SMT with their Aim 9J and R60. So it does get dunked on.
