I have to smile when someone describes Boho. I lived that life in the 70’s. A lot was left out. Brass, sheep skins, lava lamps, black lights, mandalas, candlesticks, BEADS, tons of beads, hanging between the doors. Art glass, tons of color. There was always a nice stereo system in the room, albums galore. Incense burners, and what we called at the time Hand made afghans (throws) with beautiful colors. Gorgeous turquoise jewelry displayed, it was very cheap back then. We were big on magazines back then and also terrariums were a big thing as well.

Oh and POSTERS on the walls. That’s where the black light comes in. Plus, there was always several Peace Signs.

We visited my aunt's house one time when I was a small child in the 1970s. She had an entire bead curtain wall between two spaces in her kitchen/living room and it was totally magical.

    Thank you!
You know, recently I’ve been watching a ton of video from different designers. And what I actually hate is these “beautiful” recommendations like “get rid of your ugly something”. Despite the fact that non of these beautiful people don’t suggest any ideas of recycling or reproposal those uglyes. Probably you are the only one who really help people to get trough these house or room renovation without lost all of arms and legs. So, again, thank you. I’m very glad I’ve subscribed for your channel, so I can peacefully watch your videos and not getting nervous about how ugly and outdated my house is.

I’d like to learn more about what I would call the new modern farmhouse-I’m not really sure what it’s called?! It is kind of rustic but also incorporates a lot of traditional elements. Kind of a European cottage/farmhouse. Lots of pottery, rustic wood, and antiques. I think of Studio McGee or some Seeking Lavender Lane with this look.

  • @yadiaag7771

Boho is very eclectic, embracing more of the natural textures like leather, sheep skins or any really. Loots of reeds and natural fibers. Natural linens are a must. Plants are ALWAYS needed. Soft lighting coming from sunlight or soft lighting bulbs. We see so much white here but honestly I find it the most exciting in terms of colors because they are rich, natural, but oh so vibrant. It’s both coming from nature as well as cultural.
One of my absolute favorite designers is Justina Blakeney. Her designs are like eye candy. So much vibrancy, so much energy and culture all together. It’s not for the millennial white girlies out there. Even tho I’m a millennial I REFUSE to be boring.

I've tried to figure what my style is... I loved the 20's, 40's. 70's styles... I've only experienced the 60's til now as an adult... so I have inheritied things from pre-Civil war and 1920's, 40's... eighties oak French style dressers and china hutch, Chinoiserie, bird statuettes and prints, real art from my paintings, my husbands assemblages, my friends' art work... grandchildrens' artwork...some furniture is painted and some is not. I like lots of color, prints, rocking chairs and huge pillows on the sofa, oriental rugs... I think they are calling it granny Chic... I'm a granny so that fits!

looking forward to your perspective. 😊
Also, I've noticed how I'm beginning to add too much to each space and its beginning to look a bit cluttered in certain areas with too much stuff. (Example, the top of my china cabinet and the actual shelves in the hutch. Also the top of my cabinets in the kitchen as well. )
I understand the Rule of 3, 5, 7...I want it to look more Fremch cottage but not cluttered with too much stuff.
Somehow, certain areas look a bit country cottage and that may be the wrong direction from the French cottage I'm aiming for.
Looking forward to seeing your perspective.
      Thank you!😊

You seem to have a difficult time articulating this it’s definitely eclectic it’s otherworldly there’s a lot of influences from other countries from what I can tell there’s a lot of different colors textures are super important for BoHo from what I can tell especially like fringes and things like that things you just don’t expect to see I would say even feathers like dried materials that are arranged in a vase or some other vessel it’s for me like an escape but there’s so much for the senses depending on how courageous you are because I think you can minimize it and you can maximize it it just depends on the individual I don’t think it’s a style you can acquire overnight I think it’s something that you have to continue to build on until one day you walk in really well this is just perfect but the plants for me are so important I think that they are so decorative and they do have a function and their function is to clean the air so when you walk in you’re walking into nature as opposed to walking into a surface that is covered in toxic offgassing of materials That your space is already filled with before you ever put one thing in it so I think for that reason plants are super important no matter what style you have

Its all about the shapes of the furniture, you can change the color easily, but not the shapes. So, if the shapes are not working, I’d thrift some pieces to take their places.

They don't all have to match. Focus on other elements (fabrics, rugs, wall color, pictures) that tie them all together.

If you mean the ethnic group , the Bohemians, then yes. Bohemians were also from Czech.

I know this sounds petty but it’s nice to hear you speaking normally as if you’re having a casual chat with friends in your living room.
There are others that I follow on home styling and decorating, and to listen to them do voice overs and overly enunciate with “a-speak a-so a-perfectly a-for a-every a-word”, just sounds so disingenuous.
