    Yes , definitely skip the weenie beds unless you need a stool to reach stuff in the freezer .
    Cab hi tops will certainly work , but I find the extra head room in mid or hi rise topper to be a godsend , especially if you are socked in for several days by weather .
    I also prefer a front slider since it gives you another level of convenience if your truck has a rear sliding window .
    Also , a pop up canopy( or 2 ! ) like a 10' x 10' slides right in on the floor and gives you extra space outside for extended stays .
    If space is truly at a premium , a few tarps and some cordage will do just as well .
    Been dirt bagging for decades and love it .
    Tents are a PIA at best , and nothing beats being able to just park and skip having to set up camp after a long drive . Just crawl in the back and deal with whatever after a good night's rest .
    You have a very well thought out set up there , over all .

    I too have watched numerous videos on YT about camper builds. I also want my build to be removable. Your build has given me several new ideas which I will incorporate into mine. I especially like the idea of covering the outside of the box with paneling so it doesn't look so trashy. I like that way better than just painting the box. I also like the lighting options and the heater. Great build!!

    Love the setup. The few things I would add that you don’t have or didn’t show is an overhead light of some sort to allow for reading and a small solar panel to help maintain the battery on longer trips. Consider a solar panel for an electric fence or something similar and weather/wind resistant that would mount flush to the top of the camper shell. Overall, excellent video and I took away a few ideas for my build.

    • @Outside605
      @Outside605  Год назад +3

      Sorry for the delayed reply. I miss comments from time to time. I do have overhead "tap" lights that are mounted to the carpet ceiling with sticky back Velcro squares. Pretty slick.
      I did update this setup earlier in the summer. I added a solar charge controller that utilizes a portable solar panel.

    Very nice setup. The chair is key so you can hang out back there without being hunched over the whole time. I have a cab height shell just like you so I went with a low profile cot and that allows me to sit up straight without hunching, however, I give up any kind of storage space under my bed. Works for me though and looks like your system works great for you. Good job on everything!

    • @Outside605
      @Outside605  2 года назад +3

      Years ago I started with a cot. It worked great. I found Rubbermaid totes that were the perfect height to slide under the cot. I liked how quick it was to tear down if I didn't want it in the back of my truck. My current setup is much more functional for longer trips but it takes up a lot more space. Like you said, the chair is essential, especially on days where its raining or uncomfortable to be outside.
      Thanks again for watching.

    On the switch that goes to nothing add a rear “porch light” off the back you won’t regret it. Or you can get a solar light that has a switch on it. I put one on the roof rack of my Tahoe off the back and I love having that especially when bugs are out so you don’t have to have the vehicles rear opened up letting bugs in

    • @Outside605
      @Outside605  2 года назад +2

    • @Outside605
      @Outside605  4 месяца назад

      I use a lithium battery and I'm not sure how well they play with the truck's alternator. I think it's doable but a guy would have to get pretty technical or creative to do it. 1• Why no solar panels?
    100w w/charger @ Costco.
    2• That last fuse/switch position could be for a fan & ohead LED?
    3• I'm setting my shell up similar but have a 900w Harbor Freight Tailgator $89 on sale.
    (Runs on tow receiver platform even while driving to keep battery up or parked to run 5000btu a/c unit.)
    Air conditioner can mount in box at rear with external vented fan facing out thru back vent with tailgate down. Closed lift door & styrofoam wall blocking opening where tailgate was.
    BTW little generator runs the air conditioner and charges the battery at the same time.
    I also have a battery selector switch allowing the truck alternator to charge the battery while driving or accessory battery switched on to start the truck if truck battery is low.
    p.s. that extra fuse position could also be used for an external LED above rear door motion sensing light.

    Started researching overland truck camping. You really thought this out well and made a great design that looks like something you'd purchase from a retailer. The carpet runner was just so simple and so smart! A couple questions for you: What is the width and height of the sleeping platform? It looks a bit higher than ones I have watched, but does seem more practical. Also, do you have any issues with dirt/dust getting into the camper?

    Very nice job Andy. You did a fabulous job building. Also, very well job producing the video. I had to subscribe and like on your efforts as well. I’ll probably build very similar

      Look around long enough and the right deals pop up. At least pre-covid haha.

    Love this build! A lot of room for storage with a lot of open space left in the truck bed.

    Great video. You have done a fantastic job within the budget that you quoted in the video. Just curios if you could share a detailed list of material and devices that you have built and installed in your build. Thanks.

      @@Outside605 I was wondering the same thing. I think this is the best video I’ve watched in two days. Love the idea of 2x2 and paneling, it looks great. If you have plans in the future that would be great, otherwise I will rewatch and take copious notes. I just liked and subscribed, the first in two days and probably 50 videos. Thanks for taking the time to post and good luck in building your channel.

    This would be slick to use ice camping in a hub. Toss a bottom and some skies and your in business. Strap the hub to the top.

    I appreciate your comments back, this and your video helped finished framing my bed platform. Question: how did you attach the plywood skin to the 2x2 frame?

    • @Outside605

      I used a tube of liquid nails adhesive and my finish nail gun to secure. That adhesive is really strong once cured. The wood would come apart before it lets go.
