Plot: Ariel is Triton's youngest daughter with whom he shares a strong father-daughter relationship. He is highly protective of Ariel as she is the youngest (and hottest girl) out of all of his daughters. Ursula (also known as the Sea Witch) is a villainous Cecaelia (half-woman, half-octopus) who strikes deals with unfortunate merfolk with the promise of making their dreams come true. Ursula's contracts, however, are covertly designed to advance her own ambitions and cause general misery. In the past, Ursula was a resident of King Triton's palace, before being banished and exiled by order of the king. Scorned, she has since vowed to exact vengeance by harnessing the power of the king's trident and installing herself as ruler of all the ocean. She transformed into Vanessa (A hot girl) and seduced Prince Eric.

In the 1989 version, the way they were communicating and back and forth with each other made it feel like a real augment between a father and his daughter, I did not get that from the 2023 version.
The 2023 version bastardized her severely
Triton regretted the vandalism he committed at the end and the entire time he was acting in completely terror in the 1989 original whereas in the newer one Triton didn't give any fucks and had no remorse for his actions. The entire scene of Triton wrecking the grotto is a classic case of feeling guilty over vandalism.
Even if i get that he was protacting Ariel he went way too far with this. Telling Ariel to stay away from her colection place would have beeing fine but taking away the thing that means the most and ending someone's hobby is far from alright. Ariel should have at least left a sign that she was leaving however everyone has a right to go for they're dream and do what they love. Also even if he was only looking out for her there's always another way to fix things. Beautiful movie❤❤❤
The old king Triton was so much more brutal. A very good representation of Neptune.

Halle’s performance lacks spunk, but I blame Disney.

I really like the people who play king triton more on the live action version both are incredible actors but the characters are the same its more calmer in the live action
Every time I see that scene, it reminds me not only of all the times my mother and her firstborn unleashed their unreasonable, unjustified and absurd prejudices towards my tastes for anime and video games, but also of all the times they tried to destroy anything related to all that.
When it was obvious that they should have changed their attitude for the better.

I thought of doing that at first but while making this video the transition from 2023 to 1989 felt much better than the other way around imho.
