It didn't work for Spyker, don't think it will work for Maserati! The market for high end luxury mechanical feeling cars is too small to keep a small company afloat.
I can see some of this but Alfa as a brand in the US is actually doing reasonably well. If they stay on track they could be what BMW used to be. As for Maserati, the problem with Hoovies plan is that about a dozen of those companies already exist, without the baggage that comes from the Maserati name..

I am driving my 4th Maserati at the moment. I bought my first 2 and leased my last 2. My lease is almost up and I am leaving Maserati to other brands... I have dealt enough with this brand although love the cars... They were all bought(leased) brand new but did not want to keep them after 3 years. I took huge hits on depreciation on my first 2 and learned that these cars aren't meant to be bought.
I spoke with Frank Stephenson once. He’s kinda my hero when it comes to iconic supercars like the MC12. Whoever buys Maserati obviously needs to bring it back to its roots. But I think he needs to lead with the design. The MC12 wasn’t his best work, but it was bold enough to become iconic. And a brand like Maserati *needs* a timeless design to stay relevant. I think realistically some Chinese brand will buy it and drive it further into the ground. But Stellantis really did a number on the Maserati nameplate.
April hinted at exactly what I was thinking. Appealing to older generations would only buy them so much time. I think a better idea is to do something they HAVEN’T done before. Give themselves a completely new identity instead of trying to go back to their roots. They need to reinvent themselves and appeal to young buyers. Maybe people that don’t even know their history. There is a reason other brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini and Rolls Royce etc are changing their powertrains. First and foremost they’re a business and they have to make cars that will pass emissions standards so they can SELL them. Thats how they make money. By selling cars. How many more years are you even going to be able to sell a V12 or anything else that creates emissions in every market? 10 years? That’s just putting a bandaid on the problem. A temporary solution at best. A business has to be able to adapt and change with the times. Not try to do business the way it was done 50 or 100 years ago.
A new identity is exactly their long-term plan. They have an electric Granturismo and Grancabrio, and supposedly an electric MC20 coming next year. They got into Formula-E to develop their EV technology and their goal is to be all-electric by 2030. Of course all of that goes out the window if Stellantis sell them. Investing billions into a brand and then selling it less than 5 years later for someone else to reap the benefit of that investment - or at least avoid the greatest risk - doesn't sound like smart business to me, but I'm not an auto executive

My wild wild plan for Maserati: Ferrari really needs to buy it back. But in an alternate universe: Toyota buys it. Lexus struggles to do sales in the upper premium categories (north of 6 figures) Toyota makes them reliable and still has some amazing sounding car/ V8 (LC500) Lexus built quality, Maserati noises and design and a price competitive with Porsche. Less crazy ideas have worked.
Have you driven a newer Maserati? (Face-lift 2017+) They are far better than the ones before. I like the cars and hope they don't die. Affordable especially with a warranty, sweet sounding, decently fast, etc
The only thing you need to do for this brand is simple. You need it to be sexy look of its past. Getting it retro and cut the cost of making em by using v8s from Chevy and then you get a V12 based LS engine. So all you got is V8 and V12. But then you get Jasson with his walking out of the ocean and into the SUV and add the line going to be late to pick up the kids. Then dirth flies and ring the school bells go off and all the ladies are talking to the dad about nothing and the kids say ah dad next time send mom. As they are pushing true to get in the Suv. So ladies are the ones that like the brand anyway.
@@mbutungubu5629no. I don’t think so. The new USMCA has national security provisions in it that could be and would be invoked due to the telematics systems in the cars.
Stellantis has driven these companies into the ground. Put aside what they arw doing to Dodge, last year was the end of the 300C, and what will be the end of Walter P Chrysler's legendary company. Them taking over FCA,has been horrible.
The problem with all these huge companies but especially Stellantis is that brands do not have a clearly identifiable face. You can buy the same shite with a different front facia and badges and they think the customer will be 100% behind the name. Only worked for GM when the competition was considered garbage, once Japanese manufacturers produced affordable and high quality cars - the gig was up. Not too much left of GM either now is there?
Combine both schools of thought and the brand slogan should be "All or Nothing" naturally aspirated everything on one end and fully electric on the other. No turbocharging no supercharging. The pure gas versions are old school wood and leather and the electric ones are all vegan leather and recycled wood and whatever else they can use. You make a stark contrast a bipolar brand. Toyota makes them reliable and still has some amazing sounding car/ V8 (LC500)
Lexus built quality, Maserati noises and design and a price competitive with Porsche.
Less crazy ideas have worked.
Have you driven a newer Maserati? (Face-lift 2017+) They are far better than the ones before. I like the cars and hope they don't die. Affordable especially with a warranty, sweet sounding, decently fast, etc
April and Tyler YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE SOUND! BUY A PROPER MICROPHONE!
Hoovie is buying Maserati!
Be an alternate to Pagani. Like crazy design and interior.
BYD wants into the European and US market without tariffs. Buying Chrysler and Maserati checks off both boxes. Two dominos are falling.
GEE; Chinese Crap, add a tariff will make overpriced junk. RIP Chrysler; all good things come to an end.
They can just bypass tariffs by building a factory in Mexico and making a subsidiary branch
@@mbutungubu5629no. I don’t think so. The new USMCA has national security provisions in it that could be and would be invoked due to the telematics systems in the cars.
BUT or BUTT..that is the question.
I love the look Maseratis but maintenance is really expensive and all it is a dodge parts bin car.
Maserati 4.7 Twin Turbo v8 in a new GT would have been nice, contracted with Ferrari of course
Alpha Romeo is still around. I know a mechanic that works on them, he says they come in new on the truck broken.
it is Alfa Romeo.........owned a few and that is how it is spelled.......
Stellantis has driven these companies into the ground. Put aside what they arw doing to Dodge, last year was the end of the 300C, and what will be the end of Walter P Chrysler's legendary company. Them taking over FCA,has been horrible.
The only one to ever save Maserati was Ferrari. Everyone else just screwed it up.
Next Hoovies episode:
I bought the cheapest supercar brand in the world! What does the car wizard think about my Maserati company purchase?
The problem with all these huge companies but especially Stellantis is that brands do not have a clearly identifiable face. You can buy the same shite with a different front facia and badges and they think the customer will be 100% behind the name. Only worked for GM when the competition was considered garbage, once Japanese manufacturers produced affordable and high quality cars - the gig was up. Not too much left of GM either now is there?
Maybe Nelix should run Stellantis...
I bought a Ds in the uk and couldn’t wait to get rid off it 🤨🇬🇧
Girlie Sultan is a Sultana - Yeh really man !!!
I guess Maserati will soon be a Chinese company. I would not be surprised if BYD buys it.
A steampunk Maserati. Only a manual shifter on all models. And they would all have their own tool kit.
First new car should be called the Gemini
Also everything should be yacht themed and race boat themed without any hesitation also cruise liner they should have a brand deal with MSC
