Having worked at a dealership for 6 months over 10 years ago, one thing I remember about salespeople is that most don’t have any interest or passion for cars. They also don’t care if the car is shit. As long as they get a commission they don’t care.

The Accord you showed is the new model that came out just a year or two ago. They do have a 1.5L Turbo 4 or a hybrid. I decry that they dropped the 2.0T motor from the last generation, and it is especially egregious they dropped the 3.5L V6 from 2018.

Well, you have to realize the Aveo was the "it beats walking car" or "it beats riding the bus car" for those that could barely afford it; so it served its purpose. They were also the cheapest rental car. I rented plenty of them on business trips where I was flying in only for the day (arrive in morning and fly out by evening of the same day); so it served its quick, cheap purpose.

One of the things that seems loosely connected to successful sales folks is that they need to "genuinely believe" in the product they are selling to be totally effective. If you are going to give someone a features and benefits story, it is generally better that you believe that story yourself first. A second thing that really helps in selling anything is for the subject product to genuinely possess some unique feature that differentiates it from the competition. The only way to credibly sell junk products is to explain to the customer why the product was built as it was and how it is positioned in the market place and then pass the back to them with "your decision". I am not sure if there is any way to regulate vehicle sellers to avoid unethical sellers. Given how many times Hoovie has reported that the seller was not properly disclosing some weakness in a product he was buying seems all too frequent.

Nissan had a major head start in EV’s for the average person.
Then completely let it marinate into irrelevancy as per standard Nissan operation. Nearing 15-years of production, and STILL no thermally cooled battery.
They sold ok while they were basically the only EV you could buy, as soon as competitive EV’s hit the ground my double digit waiting list turned into a couple people.

I had gone out to make sure I knew the car and it was good to go. The air suspension wasn't working. They got there and he looked over and tested everything and ot worked. They didn't buy it that day. Three days later he called and said they wanted to buy it. I went out and made sure it was good to go and another air suspension fault. Tyler, can definitely agree with you on the Aveo, worked for Chevy as a tech during those years, absolute pile of crap.
Sales wise, done Subaru, Porsche, VW and Hyundai. Honestly, only thing I would say I wouldn't do again is VW. Is a brand struggling with an identity crisis. Ever since Diesel gate, they don't know what they are. GTI is only thing remotely interesting, but the Mk8 is a shell of its former self. Subaru was putting out a pretty stellar product, other than the earliest CVTs being a bit soulless. I would disagree with the thought on the Taycan, I felt like they were fantastic cars, and the refresh on them is going to make them even better. And Hyundai's current line (as you and April discovered with the new Santa Fe) is excellent.

Isn’t the baby bronco pretty much a re platform engineered Escape, based off the Kuga in the UK, and run nothing but 93 octane and it is one amazing vehicle. Rode in a Bronco Sport that’s been hammered up and down back roads and it was way quieter and than anything I’ve been in, besides the escape. The 1.5L 3 cylinder ecoboost will put you back in your seat, it rides so good. When it can chirp the tires AWD on a 1-2 shift you know it’s a fast car. Religious reliable maintenance is necessary and a ford will not treat you wrong.

The dealer who is embarrassed about the Ford edge, must not understand his product very well. The edge is larger than in much every dimension, comes with the turbo four compared to the escapes turbo three, and has also been discontinued for 2025. I rent cars up for living in the edge is one of the most popular models.

The interesting thing is that the Focus is one of the very best vehicles, ever, especially used, IF you get the manual transmission. Avoid anything from Ford with an automatic, same as Chrysler/Jeep. Yes, that basically means get a manual Mustang, or a Fiesta/Focus used.

The sad part about the Accord being behind the competition is that the generation is fairly new. Honda has gone hard into the "car as an appliance" way of designing their vehicles. Smaller hybrid engines and CVT transmissions that get you from A to B, but don't deliver any joy. Bland styling with interiors and tech that are nothing to write home about. As a guy that owned 2 prior Accords it took me 2 minutes to rule it out when I was buying a new car last year.

I rented the new Accord twice and absolutely fell in love with everything but the seats. They are so thinly padded that it hurt my tailbone. I tried hard to convince myself that it’d be fine, so I rented one again and nope - the seats really are that terrible.

Decades ago I was fired from sales at a home audio store because of an ADC phono cartridge that (yes I'm that old) would fail in just about every one sold (and it was 150 bucks then). I quietly convinced a customer to buy a different brand and was fired on the spot when the manager heard me nearby.....

I just hope your financial security is just click bait and you’re actually doing fine. You deserve it! Plus the ace up your sleeve the Countach. Always have that to sell if you need out of debt, I hope 🤞

My wife’s got 2013 Ford edge and it is a great vehicle. It is bigger than the focus the 3.5 door attack V6 is a good motor. It is a good seller for Ford. I don’t know why Ford discontinued it. Ford screws up continually discontinuing cars and trucks that sell good to bring them back in two or three years all screwed up hence the new bronco and the new Ranger and Maverick, but screw ups

The MacMaster (another British youtuber) bought the Porsche Taycen for $120,000 British pounds two years ago and has a bunch of videos where he drives all over the UK, France and Spain. The car has depreciated such that today the car is worth only $37,000 British pounds! Any EV is going to be that clunker in the dealer showroom.

The Ford Edge is bigger and nicer in every aspect than the Ford Escape. The Edge rides nicer handles better has nicer interior materials and is more reliable. The design although very old for 2024 still managed to rank 3rd among midsized SUV's in consumer reports rankings.
