Back in the eighties I attended the Sully Antique car show in Chantilly Va. Got to see a silver 300 Gullwing with red leather interior with matching luggage and I believe golf bag as well. It was beautiful. Also watched a bunch of guys put together a Ford Model T in 10 minutes & get it running.

In the 80's I worked reparing car radios. The local Lincoln/Mercury dealer owner brought me his Mercedes Gullwing to repair the radio and clear the dial face up so it was clear instead of yellow I am sure the radio is in two parts, and we never found the second part, but I went through the dash unit and cleaned up the dial face so it was clear again without damaging the silkscreen information on the dial face. The car was just out of restoration and took first class in a car show in Forest Grove, Oregon a few days later with everything, including the radio working as it should. I would still like to know where the second part of the radio was hidden, but I know it is somewhere in the car.

The white one with red interior is a no brainer, love it. I used to know Thomas Larsson and I saw this car (the black one, though I wouldn’t have remembered the colour from back then) some 35 years ago. One of my good mates have in more recent years been out for a spin in this, we talked about it only quite recently but I’m totally with Tyler, the white one is stunning and he’d dare to use it and not to keep it only as a gem to polish.
I got a nice farm truck for you. 1998 c-2500 ext. Cab 8’ bed. Almost everything is new and stock. Nice interior, body has couple of easily fixed dents. It’s gas, vortec 350, new intake gaskets, distributor, fuel injection. In Massachusetts, not all rotted out. New ball joints and few tie rods also. It’s automatic, if 5 speed I would keep. LMK 😊
1. Sell the countach, take the money from the house and thats nearly probably close to a hoopty gullwing 2. Have a replica one built. You can make a mk1 slk into a convincing gullwing, it's easier to get something like that registered in the states, and i've heard that original Gullwings aren't really that nice to drive.
One thing is worth doing is getting the car inspected by a specialist like kd eng. SL´s are a nightmare to restore even to just running and breaking condition. I have a swiss friend who had one restored that was apparently good and turned out to become a two year project. At a huge cost.
What Hoovie said about the high end auctions is exactly why Mecum and Barrett Jackson are destroying the collector car market! Having to pay a premium for a car and then the auction house getting paid on both ends in my mind is criminal! And the fact they made him remove his video shows exactly how bad it is!

the problem with the W16 W12 W6 is un even intake runners (the line of pistons closest to the crankshaft the air fuel mixture has longer to travel etc) the Carrera 980 has unacceptable structural Integrity, The Alloy body 300sl gull wing is a masterpiece.

It's only moderately insane when you can write it off as a business expense. If Hoovie leases that car (with an option to buy out the lease, of course), he can write off all those lease payments as business expenses. That's what Stradman is doing with his latest hypercar purchase.
Well yeah, for most people that's very true - but if you have a youtube channel with a million or more subscribers and you can justify it as a business expense... it's probably not a terrible financial decision - particularly on a car that appreciates like a Gullwing.

Hoovie, please take my advice. The way the world is headed you need to focus on security. If this was 20-30 years ago and you have the balls, go for it. Believe me I feel you, I bought a 100-year-old home and did a major remodel and explanation. I am not going to bore you with details, just know the home was stunning. You never know how things may turn out. In the end I lost everything house, wife, cars, etc. Look, I really do feel you. All I ever wanted was Ford Pantera. Just out of reach 20 30k then 80 now 200. Now I'm old, drive a 03 Dokota pickup and I am just waiting on judgement day. Back in the eighties I attended the Sully Antique car show in Chantilly Va. Got to see a silver 300 Gullwing with red leather interior with matching luggage and I believe golf bag as well. It was beautiful. Also watched a bunch of guys put together a Ford Model T in 10 minutes & get it running.
My father was in the USAF stationed in Europe in the mid 1950s. On a Navy ship returning to the US in the summer of 1958 we met an Air Force sergeant who had a 300SL in the hold of the ship. I have always wondered if his family still has that car.

In 1956 my dad traveled from the US to Germany with his life savings, went to the Porsche factory and picked a 356 off the lot for $2600. Drove it around Europe then shipped the car back to the us for $400. Shortly after he got home a dealer offered him a trade for his Porsche and $1000 for a Gullwing and he didn't have the $! He regretted that moment for the rest of his life.

@@plektosgamingnah, there will always be deals on all production cars, BUT, if your looking for a deal on the type of car we are discussing here then you’ve got to know where to look and whose pocket you need to be in because you won’t find these deals on Marketplace or Craigslist and will need to have the ability to access cash within a few short hours and if you can meet these few, simple requirements, then you too can walk away with the deal of a lifetime! No matter what income level your at or what your status is, there always comes a time when the owners of high end collector pieces, whether it’s Art, Automobiles, Real Estate, Firearms, etc., need to dump a certain piece within a quick few hours by letting one individual know it’s available and that one person basically keeps up with the movers & shakers that have the ability to make a wire transfer in the next two hours and for that ability, the buyer gets a deal of a lifetime. Sellers usually need to “dump” a piece to raise money for another purchase they currently want more than the one they currently have and that is the quickest way for them to do it. There are also the other reasons to liquidate at a reduced value quickly that all of us seem to run into these days and that’s for a divorce sale where you understand your taking a huge loss either way so you opt to take a big loss by selling the car to your buddy instead of giving the ex half of fair market value. But regardless of the situation or what your looking for, there will always be deals to be had but you’ve gotta have your ducks in a row in order to score and have word out to the appropriate people and if your patient, you can be highly rewarded, but, if it’s something you want or gotta have today, then your never gonna win that prize and will always pay full, fair market value but if your patient, you can be wildly rewarded!!

In the 80's I worked reparing car radios. The local Lincoln/Mercury dealer owner brought me his Mercedes Gullwing to repair the radio and clear the dial face up so it was clear instead of yellow I am sure the radio is in two parts, and we never found the second part, but I went through the dash unit and cleaned up the dial face so it was clear again without damaging the silkscreen information on the dial face. The car was just out of restoration and took first class in a car show in Forest Grove, Oregon a few days later with everything, including the radio working as it should. I would still like to know where the second part of the radio was hidden, but I know it is somewhere in the car.

The white one with red interior is a no brainer, love it.
I used to know Thomas Larsson and I saw this car (the black one, though I wouldn’t have remembered the colour from back then) some 35 years ago. One of my good mates have in more recent years been out for a spin in this, we talked about it only quite recently but I’m totally with Tyler, the white one is stunning and he’d dare to use it and not to keep it only as a gem to polish.
I got a nice farm truck for you. 1998 c-2500 ext. Cab 8’ bed.
Almost everything is new and stock. Nice interior, body has couple of easily fixed dents.
It’s gas, vortec 350, new intake gaskets, distributor, fuel injection.
In Massachusetts, not all rotted out. New ball joints and few tie rods also. It’s automatic, if 5 speed I would keep. LMK 😊
Most people go their whole lives without seeing one in person. It’s honestly really crazy that you’ve even gotten to drive one.
1. Sell the countach, take the money from the house and thats nearly probably close to a hoopty gullwing
2. Have a replica one built. You can make a mk1 slk into a convincing gullwing, it's easier to get something like that registered in the states, and i've heard that original Gullwings aren't really that nice to drive.
One thing is worth doing is getting the car inspected by a specialist like kd eng. SL´s are a nightmare to restore even to just running and breaking condition. I have a swiss friend who had one restored that was apparently good and turned out to become a two year project. At a huge cost.
What Hoovie said about the high end auctions is exactly why Mecum and Barrett Jackson are destroying the collector car market! Having to pay a premium for a car and then the auction house getting paid on both ends in my mind is criminal!
And the fact they made him remove his video shows exactly how bad it is!

I know it’s not the same, but Dave Kindig did an episode in which he built an absolutely gorgeous 300SL replica. With values as crazy as they are, it might be 75% of the fun of owning a real one for 10% of the price.

Man the green one looks so cool. Never seen it in green before. I'd be so tempted to punt the countach and get a gullwing even knowing it'll go up so much in value. Blues my favorite color though as cool as the green on is and it looks like you can drive it and not feel as bad.

the problem with the W16 W12 W6 is un even intake runners (the line of pistons closest to the crankshaft the air fuel mixture has longer to travel etc) the Carrera 980 has unacceptable structural Integrity, The Alloy body 300sl gull wing is a masterpiece.
