    BOOM! Great video! I recorded the same length or so here in 8K pro res as well. I am going to see about keeping the screen on and using my tilta fan to see if you can keep the screen on with the fan.
    Keep up the great work!

      @@DeafDirector Same to you! I know you mentioned that you'll be making a video in the future that will go over the 5k RAW mode. Which is something I'm really interested and would love to see how far we can put it with out turning the LCD as I'm convinced that if we apply what you learned it will have unlimited recording as all other modes work with this method but it would be mind blowing if the crop mode doesn't have overheating at all in all frame rates. I find I'd use this more than 8K as I'll have RAW capability while saving storage. It seems like this camera just keeps gettting better and better haha. Cheers!

    So if you have the Canon R5 and Atomos Ninja V+ set up properly, you can't click the R5's screen to quickly change settings and to press down on the screen for autofocus or it will overheat? Are you sure because that would kind of be a dealbreaker... How about shooting 4KHQ mode? Can you have the R5 screen on at the same time for that or will it overheat as well?

    Great video. Can you elaborate on the why this will not work in a scenario in which you have to move a lot. For example a wedding? Is not possible to control the recording directly from the Ninja V+?

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  3 года назад +1

      You could control from the Ninja V+, but I feel that there is so much critical info that is not transmitted via the HDMI, that I know I would be constantly checking the LCD or EVF and once you start doing that, it hack stops working.

    • @osoriony
      @osoriony 3 года назад

      @@DeafDirector Thank you very much for your quick reply. What is different while using the Ninja V+ vs using the camera monitor. Can you change ISO aperture or shutter speed from the Ninja?

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  3 года назад +1

      @@osoriony You can not make those changes from the NInja. You still have to change the physical camera parameters on the body itself. and the second you do that you will wake the LCD or EVF up. I have tried everything I know to keep the LCD and EVF off, if you adjust your camera, but there is no way (that I can find) that let's you do this. That's why this hack only really works for situations that you are not having to move with the camera much.

    I have a documentary shoot in the desert and I need to shoot in 4k HQ at 50fps with the Canon R5 I don't have time to get this ninja set up for it so what do you recommend for this satiation?

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  2 года назад +1

      If you do not have a Ninja, you will need to be very careful in this situation shooting at 4K 50fps. You should also be aware that the R5 can not shoot 4kHQ at 50fps, it will only shoot standard 4k at this frame rate.
      1. Make sure you turn Standby Low Res to ON. This will greatly improve overheat time, because the camera will not be wasting precious minutes when you are not recording or setting up shots.
      2. Keep your camera off as much as possible between shots.
      3. Try and shoot as much as you can at 25fps or 30fps in standard 4k. This mode will not overheat. If you can get away not shooting everything in 50fps, this could help.
      4. If you are going to shoot extensively at 50fps without an external recorder, just accept that the camera WILL overheat and shut down throughout the day. You will either have to plan around this or have a second body available.
      Hope that helps and good luck on the shoot!

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  3 года назад +2

      I did a huge number of variations and this was always the culprit for overheating. But stay tuned, because I think there is a possibility that the newest Canon firmware update, may have provided a workaround for this, which would be a game changer. I am going to be spending the next two days doing some tests to see if we can update this hack. It would be amazing to do this and still keep the main screen on. Fingers crossed I can get it to work. Hello, i can imagine that you are very busy. But may i ask you about my configuration?
    I own the Canon R5 with the Atomos Ninja V.
    I have set my camera as follow:
    Movie rec. Size: 4K-U 59.94p All-I
    Log: S Log 3 activated
    Color Space: BT.2020
    Atomos Settings:
    Source: HDMI / UHD59.94 / 2.0
    Camera Output: Rec.709
    Legalize: Yes
    Record: ProRes HQ UHD59.94
    Now my questions are:
    - are my settings good in term of quality?
    - should i set my camera to 4K HQ mode? But then i need to shoot in 24frames
    - which color space should i use? BT.709? BT.2020? Cinema Gamut?
    - should i legalize the footage on the Ninja?
    - is ProRes good?
    I know its many questions? But i am little confused about it.
    Many many thanks in advance

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  3 года назад

      Hey Andres, it sounds to me like you are off to a good start. There is no doubt that 4KHQ looks better than standard 4k, but I will be honest, I have used standard 4k on plenty of paid commercial jobs and the clients have always been happy, so I think as long as you are not pixel peeping Standard 4k is fine for most applications.
      I personally prefer the look of 23.98 frames per second for my footage, but that is purely subjective, and there is nothing wrong with 60fps. Although, be careful the 60fps can overheat on you in 4K on a long shoot.
      CLog 3 is definitely great. As far as color space I have always heard that Cinema Gamut gives you the most dynamic range for you color space, and it has always given me good results.
      I also legalize my Ninja, because it gives me the closest results to what I record internally. ProRes is a great codec, and if you need to save space ProRes LT also looks great and saves a ton of space.
      Thanks so much for the comment and have fun shooting out there

  • @NameUndrConstruction

    So theoretically, with a ninja v+ you can now shoot in all modes with nothing stopping you besides storage and battery?

    • @NameUndrConstruction
      @NameUndrConstruction 3 года назад

      More specifically, say for event recap videos or music video style shooting where its a lot of start stop all day, i shouldnt run into any problems where it wont let me continue because of heat?

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  3 года назад

      @@NameUndrConstruction I would say the key to this working are situations where you can just set the camera on a tripod and let it run without touching it or messing with it. If you have to adjust any settings you will activate the EVF or LCD and this hack will not work.
      I can use this hack for interviews or concert shooting, but there is no way I could (personally) do this for a music video where I have to do 50+ setups in a day. Thanks for the comment and have a great day
