Great Reaction! If you really want the full Tool experience, I suggest going through their catalog chronologically. Many tools songs are to be played in conjunction with other songs, "Intension" leads into "Right in Two".
I realise i am probably jumping all over the place. I had a list with many suggestions and went from there. Thanks for that info!
@@SaeedReacts. no worries, there are two instances where 3 songs are played together. On the Lateralus album, "Disposition" plays into "Reflection" and it plays into "Triad"(known as "The Holy Trinity"). On the 10,000 Days album, "Lipan Conjuring" plays into "Lost Keys(Blame Hofmann)" and it plays into "Rosetta Stoned". Both groups are amazing works of art! Try "Pneuma" next!

that sound is a Tabla , Danny Carey uses a mix of eastern and western percussion , He truly is one of the best drummers on the planet

I love how the middle section starts out with the tablas and primitive tribal sound like early man and then builds and builds to this thunderous explosion of nuclear violence mirroring the capacity of so- called modern man to take warfare to the final extreme. It’s like the whole violent historical timeline of our species in musical language.
You started an enlightening journey with TOOL. Most bands seem to have external emotions expressed. TOOL expressesses introspective thinking which is why we hear meditative sounds and lyrical concepts. Enjoy brother!

Ha what a song to pick as your second Tool song. A big jump from The Pot. Different time signatures etc. Ya can listen to this song for 10 years and still here new things or notice things about it, like most Tool songs in fairness. Cool video again

If you like lyrics, Tool is a fantastic band to dive into. Lots of their songs are deep, and multi-layered. As previously suggested, the Vic Firth drum cam of "Pneuma" is fantastic, and really highlights the genius of Danny Carey. Lateralus is also a personal favorite. The rhythm is based on the Fibinacci sequence, and the lyrics are...🤌 *chef's kiss*

Now you need to do Vicarious, it’s about how we are attracted to violent murders and tragic deaths etc on the nightly news and are fascinated by it just as long as it isn’t happening to us personally. Thus the term vicarious. Tool is great with introspective spiritual exploration but just as adroit with calling us humans out on our worst or lowest tendencies as a species.

There is no „being wrong” about interpretation of Tool’s lyrics. I’ve seen it done hundreds of ways and it always makes sense to me and more importantly it should make sense to you. That’s the beauty of it.

Agreed and its such a poignant statement too... for us to be capable of having such a high sense of self awareness, being the only known creature on this planet conscience of our own mortality, and to waste our existence on all these frivolous and selfish desires... it's the greatest travesty of mankind.
Fear, jealousy, greed, hate... all poison to our eternal souls. When will we wake up and see that we all live in this shared existance together, and that love, compassion and understanding will light out way through the darkness. We are all connected and are only as strong as our weakest link, so instead of beating the downtrodden even further under, we should be nourishing them to make them stronger, better, so that as a whole we can grow. 🤘 ok, I'll step down off my soapbox now 🤣

So here for this! Tool is my favorite band ever. All band members are masters of their craft. For a lot of us, there's no such thing as your favorite Tool song, it's whatever you're listening to at the moment. Subbing for Tool, can't wait to go on the journey with you. There are going to be songs that you have to listen to together, so try to remember that. P.S. you're pretty nice to look at so that's a bonus! Also, speciesim sucks. I do love animals more than people ❤

You have to see Danny play this on the drums. You feel entranced, because you are.
The drum cam video I saw of Pneuma was crazy! (These videos still recorded on my old laptop, that had serious framerate issues, so apologies for the subpar quality) the newer videos should be a lot smoother.
Tool is considered “Progressive Rock”, but metal is a reasonable term. They aren’t full in your face like most metal music, though. It’s very cerebral in composition, lyrics, time signatures and musician talent levels.
The lyrics in their songs are very deep and most of them can be interpreted in different ways. Maynard (lead singer) is very intelligent and it certainly comes across in his verbiage. My understanding is that the band works out the music first, then Maynard will take the score and listen to it for weeks or months and let it speak to him to determine what he wants to say, then he writes the lyrics to the score. That’s why his lyrics fit so well with the tones and pace of each song.

I think both Sam Harris and Robert Sapolsky could reduce their arguments thus: every moment relies on the preceding moment's momentum, incoming information, and you have exactly one complex state in your mind or peripheral nervous system to act on, not several, meaning you genuinely 'could not have done otherwise' because you'd have no information or frame of reference to do so. Our 1:1 relationship with time destroys free will. Still love this song though because it make a good point about human behavior.

My first time hearing them I was maybe 13, i sat through all of the album lateralus about 2 feet from the speakers. When it was done i felt a pulsating wave of warmth that I have never felt again. It was the closest thing ive had to a religious experience.

Also, yes The Pot is about pot. Kinda. But Maynard’s lyrics are LOADED with metaphor, double entendres, etc. It’s not MAINLY or JUST about pot.
IMO, the only other artist who comes close to the double meanings is Eminem. And that’s sayin somethin cuz he’s a master of it.

Can't do it, sorry. Tool isn't the band that can be interpreted one line at a time. Their compositions are waaaay much more than that, both musically and lyrically. Let it play out a little longer and you'll see just how impactful it is!

All four members are equally important, and Tool is considered to be Progressive Rock. Free will is real when you can choose right or wrong. Believe in God, or not. Just know if you choose not to believe then you have no way to explain morality. Does a hurricane have a set of morals? A lion does not feel remorse or guilt, but man does because man is made in His image with a soul.
Its definitely an interesting conversation and i can see arguments for different beliefs around this topic.

What makes the reaction fun is we're listening to it with him and listening to him talk about what he just heard. Even for his benefit, breaking the song up every sentence and talking about it loses the flow of the song for him. But again, that's just me. Not a bad reaction at all.
