I still can't belive that after X-Men The Last Stand got so much hate for ruining the Phoenix Saga from the comics, they thought it would be a good idea to make the SAME PERSON write this one as well.

This one is way worse than last stand. Last stand at least had some redeeming qualities.
@@somegeekguy The Last Stand was outright offensive. X-Men 1 and 2 had the running parallel of mutants being an allegory for ethnic minorities and even homosexuals (see the "coming out" out scene in X2.) At the end of the Last Stand, Rogue decides she doesn't want to be a mutant anymore, so just like being gay or whatever, all she needs is an injection to stop being a mutant. At worst, Dark Phoenix is bland and boring. At best, The Last Stand is offensive and cruel.
@@spatchmo6938 Yea but at least Rogue had good reasons for wanting the injection. And honestly, that's a parallel to real life as not everyone responds the same way to those societal changes. There have been homosexuals that have repressed their sexuality in order to fit in. Maybe it's not right, but it's at least realistic.

The most frustrating thing with this movie for me is that the Quicksilver and Magneto father son relationship never gets any attention and Magneto never finds out.
He's like in one scene in this movie and that is the space one.
Those are the two best characters and they should have gotten more attention

@@nachoprime9649 That's why we're saying that not much was made out of this. They hinted first, then stated, but didn't do much with it. The best things about both characters had litle to do with that angle that very little explored.
The part when alien lady says your emotions make you weak she could have said something like “I could have fixed you” and then jean says “I’m not broken” calling back to what Charles said

@@shaid1111 i enjoy it. It manages to sum up exactly how the audience feels, it's almost self aware. Probably accidentally, since it's the same people who wrote "your emotions make you weak" "my emotions make me strong", but it's a line that gets a chuckle out of me most times

Xmen slowly lost touch of the whole "humans hate and fear them" plot
its not that they lost it. its that in the one pre apocalypse they kind of fixed it and were still on good terms at the begining of this one and one small incident makes the government turn on them like they should have never been in good terms with the government it should have opened on new reports about apocalypse and camera shots of people dying in collateral damage of the fight a bunch of bad guys killing and maybe even a shot or two of good guys accidentaly killing some civilians and the unrest of that event causing that mass fear of mutants again. it was just lazy writing. that and the villain in this is such an insane step down from apocalypse level and no one gives a fiddlers fuck about this jean gray so her having dark pheonix issues is stupid. they need to cast someone actually likable in that role for once if you want us to give a fuck about dark pheonix.

The Government may have an on and off relationship with the Xmen but the general public wouldn't. I wanna see more of the human hating on mutants scenarios. Like for example a human would rather be hurt than be saved by an Xman. Madripoor is gonna be introduced in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

I'll say it here and now; Matt will like X-Men Origins: Wolverine more than Dark Phoenix. Even if he doesn't like the action aka 80% of the movie, he will love how fit Hugh Jackman got at least. As well as some of the personal conflicts.
Agreed. Especially if he gets to watch some of the special features on the dvd showing the training and diet regimen for Hugh Jackman. I can't remember which movie shows the most in terms of all the training the cast did, but it's in one of them.

The train scene/fight is probably one of the most beautiful and well put together action sequences in a superhero film if we're being honest.
The x-woman line was the point were i lost all faith in this movie

Matt would absolutely hate them with a passion. The big action scenes are such a gigantic sensory overload, even for the average action junkie.

The Phoenix Saga is the greatest X-Men story ever. A studio would require four complete films to do it justice! I appreciated that "Dark Phoenix" made a good faith effort to tell the Saga with as much fidelity as possible to the source despite unavoidably necessary alterations based on the franchise's early narrative choices and the lack of cosmic build-up. The single greatest amendment directly contradicted the implication, at the end of "Apocalypse", that the Phoenix Force was an intrinsic manifestation of Jean's power. This chapter quickly establishes that an EXTERNAL presence bonds with Jean augmenting her telekinetic abilities. Once the writers established that, I forgave the film any flaw because I realized that Fox was earnestly attempting to give fans the story they so desperately wanted to see. Not only did they get the power source correct but then they added the shuttle incident, the planetary holocaust, an extraterrestrial presence and Jean's apotheosis. These were all accurate but risky decisions since the series had been so earthbound up until this point. However, as the license was expiring, Fox decided to go for broke and I applaud their effort. They even give us a brief glimpse of Genosha they so aimed to please. Sure, Genosha looks like a refugee camp instead of a bustling tropical metropolis and Chastain is not Empress Lilandra of the Shi'ar but Fox gets points for trying.
Stripped of allegory and reduced to derivative beats, you still get the powerful duality of Erik and Charles, the same clutch of terrific actors, the same cool kids with amazing powers and some extraordinary fight sequences of powers used in concert. X-Men movies may not all reach transcendent heights but they never fail to entertain. I think Holden, Pastor and even Jenna felt that way about this entry. How can you hate on a movie that has Jean humble the two most powerful figures we know by crushing Maggie's helmeted head and by forcing Charley to stumble to his feet up a flight of stairs? The train reshoots were cobbled together hastily but we see the youngsters cut loose for the first time with savage results in a brutal, rip-roaring climax! These are the simple pleasures to be had in this film.
Holden, you should show Matt and Jenna the animated adaptation of the Phoenix Saga from the '90's cartoon! It is by far the most comic accurate and gut-wrenching with Jean's heroic sacrifice on the Blue Area of the Moon.
Jenna's comment about aliens from nowhere is forgivable because she is ignorant of the source material. A cosmic element is at THE ROOT of this story and a lack thereof in X3 contributed greatly to mangling the tale during Fox's first pass. However, even without that background knowledge, the movie takes great pains to carefully explain what the Phoenix Force is, how it destroyed the D'Bari world, how Vuk's group survived and why they wish to harness this power in that beautiful cosmic sequence. Rather than finding it jarring, I saw it as a natural expansion of the X universe.
Matt may think he has an open mind but he's only receptive to fortune cookie wisdom and failed to engage on any level even ignoring the film to play with his phone. He still is hung up on deaths being impermanent in fantasy settings and, when a character like Mystique actually DOES DIE WITH FINALITY, he chooses to not acknowledge it. Despite everyone's efforts, he simply cannot untether his imagination from prosaic reality. He is mudbound. He's a nice guy with a big heart but I think he'd be happier doing curls and squats in the garage rather than bearing witness to wonders.

I remember almost everyone in my screening *groaning* at the "Your emotions make you weak" line when I first saw it. Honestly one of my funniest movie-going memories.
Lol...we all knew the opinions of this movie but still great to see them anyways. Really the only good thing to come from this movie was the cameo of the Xmen in Deadpool 2 (filmed at the same time). Thanks for another great video. #Roadto100K

The reaction was actually very entertaining. I went into Dark Phoenix like Pastor, I treated this as a stand alone movie from every other X-Men project and ehh it was okay..

This movie was such a letdown, but the fight scenes and uses of powers were amazing. Cyclops finally got some good stuff to do, nightcrawler teleported that lady in front of the train. Magneto is throwing shrapnel around like throwing stars. The action was so good and the story was so lame.
Narrative needed work, but the choreography was good, special effects, music etc.
they should have done it in 2 movies.

@@Saigonas while it is not trash Days of Future Past is not a good film, it tends to get rated higher because of our love of the X-Men and how bad some of the films have been, but if we are being honest, on it's own it is not a good film it is okay which makes it one of the best in the Franchise and that is the saddest thing about all of this.
They were given these wonderful characters, with this wonderful backstory and a great theme, that fits today and instead they did this with the films

You saw the phoenix in the sky... but in the comics in the 80's and 90's it passed from Jean to Rachael (Excalibur) . Granted Jean DID come back later, but just as her previous self.
