As a swiftie I thought you guys reflected the whole matty x taylor situation really well. I love both of them as artists and I wish people had the ability to reflect neutrally like you did.
And a little bit of my opinion, I don't think all of this has negatively affected either of them, as they say "any publicity is good publicity". The 1975 announced another tour in Europe and increased almost 3 million monthly listeners on spotify and Taylor at the moment, seems untouchable. We'll have to see how long the general public can stand to see her this big before taking her down again, but I don't think this relationship has affected her popularity in the slightest. To be honest, it might have made her more relatable, because who hasn't dated someone others frowned upon?

The way that The 1975 is always self aware of what they are doing, is one of my favorite things about the band.
The Taylor ice spice thing was so embarrassingly transparent it’s hard to believe that’s the route they chose. With that said I really appreciate you guys making these videos now. Thank you!
I think it's possible that the idea for a collaboration between TS and Ice Spice was floated before the controversy. They met at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in March 2023, and maybe the idea of a remix was discussed soon after. What they didn't expect was fans digging into Matty Healy's past when rumours emerged of his dating TS. I don't deny that MH has said or done questionable things, though it was quick how "MH laughed along to jokes about Ice Spice's ethnicity" becomes "MH is an irredeemable racist". The debate and controversy became so great that almost nothing they can do was going to quell the situation, and the remix ended up looking like poorly-executed damage control. Like the story with The New Yorker, it was the timing.

Also on the documentary thing, I like to think of them as specials. On cable tv back in the day there would be hour specials dedicated to an artist, always favorable and you learned something new about the artist, that’s what they’re doing in these films.

1) How far into the future do you tend to forecast? Are you just wondering about who will be among the Albums Of The Year 2023, or who might be up for a Grammy next year? Are you thinking about who will headline Coachella/Glastonbury in 2024/25/26? Or are you wondering whether festivals and streaming services will survive the decade as they are?
2) Who would you rather see get back together: Oasis or One Direction?
3) We're seeing screen writers strike in the US, could you see musicians ever striking in protest of streaming pay rates or ticket selling monopolies? Would bigger artists ever support such a move or are they too much a part of the system?
4) Have you seen any of the backlash on TikTok against musicians using cliched videos to win over fans? Has that "money-train" run out of track for musicians?
5) Jon: will we ever see the Kanye book? Are you prepared to finish it here or do you see another plot twist just around the corner? Will you be forever updating it with new editions depending on what he does next?

Matty has been totally put under a magnifying glass and deliberately misinterpreted and misunderstood by Taylor’s crazy fans. That fanbase is toxic. Trying to control her but I read she doesn’t care what they think anymore. Some Swifties fueled a hate campaign in the media against Matty so that she would dump him. Matty and his family were getting death threats. The Gaylors and the 14 yr old cockroaches with no critical thinking skills and no understanding to question the media are the worst. Matty sure isn’t perfect but he also isn’t who he’s accused of being. Cancel culture with no thought to it. However I don’t believe the general public care. I researched everything and listened to the podcast and he did absolutely nothing wrong to deserve it. It’s definitely not over between those two either. Wait and see. They both share the same circle of friends in the music industry . Jack Antonoff and Phoebe Bridges are close friends of both. Jack produced both of their albums. Matty and 1975 are excellent band. Great live in concert. Very supportive fanbase.

The trailer along didn’t look appealing. HBO went from Succession to The Idol. Sam’s visual beautiful. His writing is his weakness. With that, Zendaya is very talented actor.
Surprised they didn’t connect how the backlash of the idol and ts are both manifestations of women online projecting their own discomfort about sexuality and men on to these situations without investigating themselves further.
