  • With Halloween coming up, the kids and I put together a creepy graveyard fence for our yard, built out of old pallets. With a couple tools and an afternoon, this is a great way to amp up your Halloween display!

Fantastic! I set mine up again on the weekend. It takes some time the first year, as you have to split the pallets, set up the connectors, and all that. Took maybe ten minutes the other day. The neighborhood kids love the spooky ambience it creates. Have fun, and thanks for the kind words! 😁

I work in a school district that gets tons of pallets, I am definitely going to try this. I will post a video on Halloween. What do you do to stake them into the ground?

Amazing! The best part is that the pallets you likely want are the ragged-looking ones they won't care about. 😁 I actually don't stake these, at all. Just the weight of them, as they are connected with a few 90 degree turns, is enough to support everything, preventing it from tipping and from lifting off into orbit. If I was going to stake them, I'd drill some large-ish holes, one every pallet or so, and then pound a 1' rebar piece into the ground through it. Thanks for the question!

Do you treat the wood for bugs/termites?

No, I didn't. Termites aren't a massive issue here...also, if any bugs do mess up the wood a bit, that only contributes to the creepy look I'm after! 🤣 The pallets don't have to support much weight, so the structural integrity doesn't have to be as strong as one would normally need in a pallet. That being said, using some sort of chemical to dissuade bugs wouldn't be a bad idea, either, especially if they're a big concern in one's region. Thanks for the question!
