If you want to make things even more confusing, early marketing material & previous of Mystic Quest Legend in at least parts of Europe actually called the game Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Matthebonn vonbon in Donkey Kong Country 3, you have to swim around 2 rocks in a figure of 0 to open the lost world. To figure that out, I immediately related to the palm tree puzzle in Final Fantasy Adventure. :)
I was aSLEP for this run, so I missed it live unfortunately. And missed the chance to give the $5 for that request, because those palm trees were my bane when I was a kid. I actually got done replaying the iOS remake Adventures of Mana shortly before SGDQ this year. So much nostalgia. And shoutout to Kenji Ito and the arrangers for the amazing soundtrack. Made me so unbelievably happy to hear that orchestrated so amazingly.
Got stuck on the palm trees as a kid too. Never solved it but always remembered the game. Recently i finished the game and even got a retro achievement for solving the 'puzzle.' I cried a little
The Figure-8 quest was the first and only time I had to call the nintendo help-line to get a tip. I cried on the phone when it worked. Absolutely fantastic game, my first RPG too, cant overrecommend to do a full run. And this was also the first time I watched a glitch-run. I experienced the first glitch myself, but paniced out and started a new game. Seeing all those blew my mind though, good job guys!
The warp works because it can only store half the world data in the cartridge (or one dungeon/town) at the time, and the point coincides with where the portion breaks in the world map. So it warps you to "the other side of that half of the world.' I found the first one on accident as a kid, but never the second one! That was epic.
that palm tree puzzle. I know I figured that shit out by accident. I won't even lie. I just got bored and randomly decided to walk around them in a figure 8 while I thought about what to do, low and behold, the door fucking opens.
The Palmtree puzzle got me too. Got hardstuck there a couple times. Funny thing: When i got my copy if the game there was a previous file that was stuck at EXACTLY that place too.
Underrated game. In FFA, you actually see everything you need to see on the screen, unlike Secret of Mana which constantly has shit hitting you that suddenly appears on screen. Your party members in this game also do their own thing and don't require you to babysit them and guide them around everywhere, unlike the party members who get stuck on rocks and furniture in SoM, preventing you from being able to move until you get them unstuck. Also, really gotta love the flying enemies that fall every time you hit them and have i-frames until their entire rising animation is complete. Oh, and how about the cure animations that take so long that the boss has already hit you twice during them? Finally, gotta love those huge hitboxes on some boss attacks, too. Sorry... but this game is more fun than Secret of Mana, IMO. Seiken Densetsu III is still the GOAT, though! Way ahead of its time! I recommend everyone play Trial of Mana (the English translated version on Collection of Mana for Switch, or the 3D remake).
I remember when my childhood friend gave up on this game. He hopped on a chocobo while poisoned at 2 HP and literally couldn't do anything because he'd die as soon as he dismounted. Never bothered to reset, kids are stubborn like that.
My mom bought this for me when i was young. I picked it out. It was 59.99 and was a very old game at walmart. Funny how gamebpy games were going for 20 bucks at that time. I love this game and remembering using the sickle forever. The palm tree thing had me stumped for atleast 3 weeks. None of my friends ever palyed the game or even heard of it , so there was no help. I finally figured it out and beat the game easy because of my level. I gave away the cart and threw away the box and manual. Dumb move by me
It is the first Mana game, but it was actually a FF spinoff, the full title in Japan is Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden. Later Mana games removed most of the FF elements though
Wow this is my childhood coming back :D This game is so confusing, because in Germany it is named 'Mystic Quest' and there is also a SNES game called that, but its a different (and awesome) game ^.^
I think when I made it to the palm tree puzzle, I just decided to walk a figure-eight around them, and the door opened. There's a character in the nearby town who asks for a Bag of Fang (which is a random drop from one of the enemies in the desert area) for a clue on how to enter the dungeon. All he tells you after doing this is "Palm trees, and eight." Rather cryptic.
Called 'Mystic Quest' in France, one of the best games I've ever played. Right in the memories. Thanks :)
it's called Mystic Quest in all of Europe

yes the palm tree puzzle, and i cried when i finished this game, childhood times
Because of this game I'll always do figure eights around trees or random landmarks in other games just to see if anything will happen

Shit, I just realized this is probably the reason I do this

holy crap this is such a gem of a sgdq. this game was such a big part of my childhood
the first game i ever played in my life. wow, this brings back memories :')

This game has amazing music
I got chills when the overworld music changed
that palm tree puzzle.

1:55 GAME START
OMG i missed this some of my fave runners and the first "Final Fantasy" game i ever owned, awesome!
Omg, wish I knew about this game as a kid.
"Please tell my Gemma Knights that I said... NO SIGNAL"
I have been trying to beat this game for a year now off and on. You beat it in less than 40 mins.
The Palmtree puzzle got me too. Got hardstuck there a couple times. Funny thing: When i got my copy if the game there was a previous file that was stuck at EXACTLY that place too.
It starts at 1:50.
"Flying fish guys"
Come on, they're rabites, guys.

I really like the color palette he's got for the GameBoy here.
holy crap! he beat the game on level 22! I never knew you could do those glitches and warp to the snowfield and the mana shrine!

Final Fantasy Adventure, which is really a Mana game, which is called something else in Europe. It can only be a Squaresoft game.
It was called Mystic Quest in Europe.

The funny thing about this game, though, is that it technically is a Final Fantasy game, but as a spinoff
The endgame level grinding ends at 35:46
6:56 is starting time.
Everyone passes away at the beginning. What a sad fate the heto has.
This was the first game I ever beat. And the first final fantasy i was introduced too. I still don't see how i figured out half of these puzzles.
How is this in color?
my first rpg and still one the best for me
Trying to find this guy on twitch, I don't see anyone just named opus. Anyone got a link?
opus614
wish I caught this live.. but my frail human flesh required sleep... thank the mana tree for youtube
It's called Adventures of Mana on mobile
It's called Sword of Mana on GBA.
Hey, some of those tree sprites look identical to the ones in Mystic Quest!
...this IS Mystic Quest. In Europe. And yes, there is another game with that name which has nothing to do with this series.
Palm trees and 8. I was stuck on this for months when I was 10, and found out the answer by accident.
Opus is so adorable. Kreygasm
...Wait, this is actually "Sword of Mana"... We do learn new things everyday XD
I love this game . idk why but here it's named mystic quest
oh god... i play this Game over and over again... first time i realised that you kill the VAMPIRE Lee with a CHAINEWHIP.. Castelevania easteregg?? XD
The Palm Trees... for days.
I wish someone would do a breath of fire 1 run
they have plenty of 3-4 hour games , who cares if its 2 more hours , make it like a 100k donation incentive.
GDQ had long runs before, I don't think time is an issue. Maybe there aren't any runners for BoF.
Besides, it's a Capcom game, I'm fairly certain that it's broken beyond repair
44:45 OMG YOU JERKS I WAS SO INVESTED IN THE STORY... now i'll never know what she said
This game and me didn't get along. third game in the series I played. Legend of Mana was the first.
Nice
Dang, this run category doesn't get to show the best ally, Marcie... =/
I fight for my friends Ultimate who doesn’t like a robot pal named Marcie?
@@johnsimon8457 Especially one that gives you infinite MP and shoots laser beams.
