Me, again; at least once per year. Bill Graham knew how to put on concerts, especially at Tanglewood, and Santana was one of his personal favorite bands. An Epic performance here. I just always wondered who that dude was in the white pants with maracas on Soul Sacrifice?? Not a band member, for sure (but thought he was for a moment ).

I was told by a friend that as a Senior at Culver City High School, they were bussed over to Inglewood High School to see a Three Dog NIght concert. When they got into their seats the introduction was for a new band out of the Bay area...it was Santana! When their set was completed everyone was on their feet partying, as Three Dog NIght came on to the stage to perform, they were booed in unison... it was spring 1966.

A little Batuka. Before they were even unleashed on the music consuming public. Note that Carlos spent most of his time on stage focusing towards David Brown and Michael Shrieve. Chepito. Carabello. Rolle. It does not end. The material. The performance. The intensity. The moment in time. This was it.

In case anyone didn't know that is Bill Graham at the end of the concert, he was the Godfather of the concert scene in the Bay Area until his tragic death in 1991. He also was the emcee at Woodstock and was the reason Santana, a relative unknown band at the time, performed there. One of Bills trademarks was requiring all groups who played at his concerts was to do an encore performance at the close of the regular show.
