Randolph's Way it’s really understandable as to why Matsuda would shoot him. He believed in Light’s innocence the most and strongest, and finding out that Light was Kira, when he was trying to defend his claim that he isn’t Kira have him a huge shock. He also thought of Soichiro as a father figure, and wanted to finish his intention of bringing justice to Kira, and knowing that Light was involved in all this, when he thought Light was innocent the whole time obviously made him mad and sad, and that he thought he should take responsibility for all of this.
I think the fact that he's such a loser and he sympathized with Kira makes it all the more fitting. Light, a self proclaim god, was shot and bested by the loser of the great...its quite poetic in that sense.
The final episode really made me appreciate Matsuda as a character. Once he found out Light was Kira, he had hit his breaking point and took matters into his own hands by shooting him. In my opinion, he’s a very underrated character because throughout most of the series he is more of the comedic relief and isn’t taken seriously by any of the members of the Task Force until this last moment. Now in terms of which version of this scene I prefer, I obviously prefer the original scene because it shows more character development instead of just skipping all that and going straight to the action like the Relight version does.

He tells him “I told you I would be the one to write your name in my death note when it’s time for you to die” much better ending in my opinion

Yeah original take is better. It made it seem more impactful for Matsuda and his anger against Light. Plus the redubbing for an already iconic scene seems more...lifeless? IDK how to describe it. I guess if you're a hardcore fan it might seem interesting to have the abridged videos but it just takes out so much of the important bits (Like Death and Rebirth movie for Neon Genesis Ebangelion,) Also it's not as meme-able as the original so lmao
I know, right? I feel like Light's VA was probably going for making him sound more in pain...? But that's just a guess. (Also I'm a little biased, after seeing all the amazing memes made with it, aha). He doesn't sound nearly as angry and also, yeah, not nearly as iconic. And I also agree about the whole abridged thing. Death Note especially is one of those series with little to no filler, so it seems pointless to cut out integral parts and mess up the pacing, especially with something as impactful as the last episode.
This scene is weird honestly , earlier on during the helicopter (when L was alive) he used his blood and a needle to write , why did he bother pulling out a pen ? He could've just used the needle trick again.
he was acting carelessly. his plans were all discovered. HE was discovered. the power took over his head. at first he was this calm, strategic logical person but as the time passed, evil got through his head. he became this mindless, ruthless killer. he wasn't thinking clearly. that's my take on that scene
@@moniesdimples2494 i agree during L's time he is a calm and strategic person who's doing this to Make the world better place won't kill anyone innocent unless he had no choice tho after L's death he completely loses it . He's just a power hungry killer who wants to be God and will do anything to make it happen even kill someone who just says something against him. In the first half he's a genius and the second a psychotic murderer . Especially his actions in the last episode proved he was no longer in his right mind he was no longer Yagami Light who used the death note and the name Kira to make the world a better place buts Kira a power hungry god who pass judgement on all those who oppose his godhood or even unintentionally threaten it ( his father, Sayu ,Misa Weby, Aiber )regardless who it is.
@@n.k832 you could also see the changes in Light's way of thinking or Light in general in both of the openings. Opening 1 is somehow calm, very planned, very logical. Light is still Light if I make some sense. While opening 2 ua veey chaotic. Very loud. Disorganized. You could tell that L's death wwas the trigger for Light to be replaced by his persona "Kira".
Not enough time and being watched by everyone. He hides his hands for more than a sec, and everyone would have jumped over him. A pen is faster than making sure the needle has enough blood to write anything with it.
I've never watched this in Japanese and I'm ASTOUNDED at how much the English voice actor for Light PERFECTLY captured the exact pitch of the breaks of the Japanese actor's voice during that iconic final breakdown
He planned on writing just Near's name (based on the Manga) and then attempt to convince the rest of the people there he was not Kira (he was obv out of his mind at this point)
You do remember Ryuk himself did say he wrote the rules in the Death Note right? He knows much more than he says he knows... So it's very well possible that he exempted rules from the Death Note because he doesn't like them or added in rules that don't actually exist to keep the trajectory accord so any of the rules set in there can be faked or even not written as evident that not only L thought about it but Ryuk seemed to have no problem writing fake rules in the Death Note.
If police didn't wanted to catch kira than "Kira was Justice" because he was only killing the criminals who are supposed to die after all, when L stated that it's wrong to kill criminals like this (I don't agree with him, I think L just wanted to know How Kira Was killing People) if police didn't suspect Light than he was never going to kill someone who is innocent, he had to kill them just because he was being suspect by them, and if he didn't killed them he knew he would get caught. My opinion is that Light was right and Kira was Justice.
People, the relight version deleted the dialogue between Matsuda and Light when they were talking about Light's father in the original. Light said people like his father who are honest and lawful will always end up being miserable and Light literally disregarded his father. This statement was perhaps too dark to be said in a TV, so they censored it by cutting it in relight.
Well... no. In the Relight version, they skip the part about how Light's dad got kill. All it said in the Relight version is that Light succeeded L and Light's dad passed away during the timeskip, probably from natural causes instead of from raiding Mello hideout. Having Light talk about how his dad was made a fool and Masuda being piss off about it would not make sense.
Matsuda is badass!!!! Makes sense he was the one to shoot him as this revelation hurt him the most, he was always the one rooting for Light's innocence 😔😭
Matsuda looked up to Soichiro Yagami and he was the only one in the npa team who genuinely trusted Light. Plus with all the "Matsuda is an idiot" he's heard...it's only fair he shows the viewers and the others from the story how worthy and "not idiotic" he is?? Couldn't think of anyone more suited for shooting the crap out of Kira and saving everyone. This is just beautiful man I love articulate the story is...every thing happens for a reason
Matsuda is the best... Poor guy. He genuinely liked Light. To find out one of your partners for what, 5 years is actually the evil you've been fighting against for all that time... Bruh
It’s just so impactful to see light go off like he does here. Throughout the entire series he’s kept composure and was so controlled. Although it’s understandable as he’s just been found out about.
light at the beginning of the series was calm, calculated, and thoughtful at the end, he only lost because he became egotistical, overconfident, and clumsy.
Near was a whole lot more arrogant and likely to lose from it. Light’s ego makes him want to crush you, he will plan beyond what’s needed to prove his point. That’s what he would do.
Honestly, I really wished that L and Light would die together L did say the would either die together or get out of this (Can't remember which episode) It'll be interesting if this happened but Near and Mellow aren't in it and when Light trails away, he writes Ls name (Looking in the fake book or something) and when he's going to die on the stairs, L comes in and tells Light something (Like how they could've been friends in a different situation) and then from a heart attack near Light I'd probs be more satisfied with that ending. You also gotta remember that Ls ways had extreme measurements so the justice system was never perfect to begin with
i think this would’ve been a pretty satisfying too being that i didn’t really enjoy how the series dragged on after L’s death. it’s interesting that the musical version of deathnote has a similar ending to this, and the final song with L and light’s confrontation can be interpreted as both regretting the futility of the situation
The second Japanese live action movie has an ending that would've been the most satisfying ending to the manga rather than Light and L going out separately in the ways that they did. After Rem dies from killing Watari and apparently L, a day later Light gloats by himself mocking L, but L reveals himself to be alive. When questioned how he did it, L shows Light that he wrote his own name in the Death Note and that he would die peacefully after a full month, so he couldn't die to Rem. After Light realizes that he's lost because he cannot change L's fate, and realizing he's now a fugitive, Ryuk ends Light's life. On the last day, L speaks to Light's dad over the situation, passes his legacy to Near and dies peacefully.
@Slasher Killer Bro that's Because in I Am Justice Scene Ryuk said that the first to Reveal his Identity will die first and L knows that there is no other way except Revealing his Identity to Defeat KIRA and all know this Light And L are both of good deeds but there ways of Justice are different as Lights ways is not Perfect but Short as by Killing People with no Proof can Kill Innocent also but L's Way is long but this way can assure us that the Criminal will be Punished for sure but not Kira Can that he will Kill only Criminal. So, L's way is Better that No one wanna Die without doing any bad Thing (Including Me) and I think that not only me no one wanna die without doing any Criminal Offence or Anything but still both are good by there thoughts but I Am In Support Of L cause L is Justice.
True, he could’ve killed L, his FBI agent, the girlfriend of that agent, and a lot more people. Plus if he killed L early he wouldn’t need to lose ownership of death note and no one might actually find out about it if you think about it. They only knew it cuz of higuchi and if light never lost memories and didn’t make someone else Kira higuchi wouldn’t have it, no one knows about death note, and light basically wins that round. Soon near and mellow come and we’ll there isn’t really the other members of lights group since he would’ve killed em all or something. So that means Near wouldn’t have much of a lead but some sort and if he manages to get to that one warehouse scene I think light would’ve tried to be smarter and write down his name when turned around and not show them him writing down their names on his watch paper. Then he would’ve won and everyone would be happy, though I do wonder when ryuk would kill light. Maybe never if light won.

Vatsalya Sharma he didn’t say that Light wasn’t a psycho but that himself wasn’t a psycho. I think that we all agree that a guy who laughs like Light in front of his friend/rival’s grave is a pure psychopathe...
@The Zoom They weren't rip off characters. It's just that initially the creators made Light to be much smarter than L and realised that since kids watch anime it makes no sense for the bad guy to win and L catching Light wouldn't make sense because Light was smarter than L so they had to kill L and make a new character who was actually smarter than Light
there was an identical guy resembling 'L' with the same face & name ryu ryuzaki who is known as BB.....I've red it in a manga....when Light wrote L's name in his note.....that guy BB dies.....that's one of the main reasons why L was sure Light is kira..... Tho L died for misa.......felt bad for that.........
For me this will always be one of the best scenes of death note that I felt being, not because of Matsuda being the one who reacted first and shooting light, but because of the impact that hit me once I saw light actually being shot. Throughout the series we saw light being a cold analytical mastermind, mostly always having his plans go right for him and without me realizing it I started putting him in a pedestal and thinking that nothing could go wrong for him and that his plans will always go right. I really started seeing him as a god but once his plans started falling apart and he got shot my illusion of him instantly broke and I realized that, as much as he is smart, he's still human and that even he can be stopped with just a shot of a gun.
There’s a lot of things we love about this scene, but something I personally really loved was how it showed what a dangerous weapon the notebook truly is. Obviously we always knew it, but seeing Light begin writing frantically while everyone panics and shoots at him really puts it into perspective that it was more dangerous than their guns, or any other weapon we see in the show and how scary it is when someone begins to use it.
Further proof why Matsuda is one of my top favourites 😌 Also Light literally would have lived if he wasnt so careless in the end and rushed to write down another name loll if he had hidden it better hed be fine
Yeah they would've just stood there while he slowly writes their names??? Literally if they walked around him they would see the note. The only unrealistic thing was he wasn't immediately apprehended.
But seriously when L died I thought light would be more caring at his last moments but seriously he went to becoming the most despicable character who was willing to kill his innocent sister and make her lose her mind and cheat his father even at his death without any self realization of what he did. L will always be the main protagonist in this series in the eyes of every death note fan.
yes matsuda thats my boy best scene ever i wouldve done the same no hesitation for all the people dead, L everyone this is one of the reasons why i love matsuda lol
Coreyluminous ._. I just don’t see why any person without an inferiority complex would feel the need to go out of their way to attack someone and call them weak just because they said they would shoot Light in this situation. That’s just being needlessly petty and obnoxious for no real reason.
Heros/protags in horror movies, tend to want to give the villain a second chance then get surprised when they haven’t changed and then they have to work harder to stay alive. But not matsuda, he ain’t got time for that shit
That moment we've all been waiting for during the entire series. Light meeting a bullet and realizing no notebook can save him at that instant. Speed of firing a gun vs speed of writing a name. Obvious outcome. And to think it was Yamcha of the group to put the main villain down. This was extremely satisfying.
Imagine getting beaten to the point of not being able to move, but you see an ambulance approaching and you start feeling better, only to see how that ambulance breaks your neck without being able to do anything about it
@@chancesr813 Well, yes, but actually no. Light just wanted to rule the world by his own point of view and he still killed EVERYONE who got on his way. He was even planning to kill lazy people because they "didn't contributed to society", although Light reduced 70% of the criminal rate, he still murdered innocents, só he deserved to die. If he did just killed criminals i would 100% wanted that he won, but he didn't.
I mean I understand light had to die for plot related reasons or something, but after L's death light really fell off, he become less cunning and a lot more careless with everything. Very evident in the original anime.
In a certain way it makes sense. Light only ever considered L to be his rival. He thought Near and Mello were just kids LARPing as detectives and the rest of the Kira task force were his stooges. Of course he was careless, because this wasn’t a battle to Light, it was a cleanup
This scene shows us why Matsuda is still in the police despite his various moments of foolishness, he's such a pro shooter that never fails a single shot, he's maybe the best shooter in the entire force! And they saved his best talent just for the end of the story! Such a plot twist!
You can really tell that light has hit rock bottom and lost all sanity. As well as his friends losing all hope for him and faith. It really shows how well written death note is.
I remember guns are very scarce in Japan especially handguns. So they're most likely not as proficient as the police over here because they probably don't have as much access to ammunition to practice shooting. Then again they really don't need that much
Honestly, that isnt how it should of worked. First of all, if you made it this far you would know both Matt and Mello are dead. I'm positive Matsuda knows at least Mello is dead, he saw where he was dead. Second of all, Light was the one who broke his trust. Matsuda trusted Light, and put faith in him thinking he was not Kira. But now he lnew that Light was indeed Kira, he got mad and shot him. Although I find Near annoying, I'm still fine with the way things turned out, in fact, might of been one of the best endings they could have done. This is just my opinion however, so you do not have to agree with me.
Matsuda's anger towards Light in the remake made no sense, since they changed Soichiro to die off screen of totally unknown causes. Should have had the SPK calmly shoot Light down.

I guess if you're a hardcore fan it might seem interesting to have the abridged videos but it just takes out so much of the important bits (Like Death and Rebirth movie for Neon Genesis Ebangelion,)
Also it's not as meme-able as the original so lmao
I know, right? I feel like Light's VA was probably going for making him sound more in pain...? But that's just a guess. (Also I'm a little biased, after seeing all the amazing memes made with it, aha). He doesn't sound nearly as angry and also, yeah, not nearly as iconic. And I also agree about the whole abridged thing. Death Note especially is one of those series with little to no filler, so it seems pointless to cut out integral parts and mess up the pacing, especially with something as impactful as the last episode.
Light should have won

I nearly cried when Light died, it's okay. You're brave by even admitting you felt that way. *hugs*
Roman Reign light had no problem killing anybody in his way dude😂not even close to justice
I stopped liking Light when he killed Naomi and then even more when he killed L.
He’s saying if he doesn’t change the world people like his dad will continue to die
Well...

It’s just so impactful to see light go off like he does here. Throughout the entire series he’s kept composure and was so controlled. Although it’s understandable as he’s just been found out about.
light at the beginning of the series was calm, calculated, and thoughtful

Near was a whole lot more arrogant and likely to lose from it. Light’s ego makes him want to crush you, he will plan beyond what’s needed to prove his point. That’s what he would do.
Honestly, I really wished that L and Light would die together
L did say the would either die together or get out of this (Can't remember which episode)
It'll be interesting if this happened but Near and Mellow aren't in it and when Light trails away, he writes Ls name (Looking in the fake book or something) and when he's going to die on the stairs, L comes in and tells Light something (Like how they could've been friends in a different situation) and then from a heart attack near Light
I'd probs be more satisfied with that ending.
Slasher Killer well you could say it was L to then
@Slasher Killer I also
all of this could have been avoided if light had just accepted the shinigami eye deal
then again he will die thus the death note series will be short asf

The pen is mightier than the gun.
Although you probably shouldn't bring a pen to a gunfight
