    1 . The slow introduction: it symbolizes the feeling of aggression and loss that the band suffers due to their loss.
    2. Solo #1 : represents the whole feeling of anger of Kirk Hammett.
    3. The interlude (slow part of the intro): it
    represents the acceptance of the loss of the 3 remaining members, and the going forward in their honor.
    4. Solo #2: represents how deeply the death of Cliff Burton has affected them.
    5. On the return of the heavy part, they pay tribute to Cliff by reading the poem, his last composition, and continue with the tribute doing just what Cliff would have expected of them, to move forward with the music.
    6. Upon reaching the end, the song returns to the classic style of the introduction, symbolizing the memory of Cliff, which will never end. The final riff is suddenly interrupted, symbolizing the end of Cliff's life, cut short by death at such a young age.

  • @battoosh
    @battoosh 4 года назад +49

    You're not wrong bro about the send-off part, but more than just that, this was their way of 'dealing' with this as they were kids basically, and they just went on tour in a couple of weeks after because they never really got into processing the loss of their brother. Also, the main riffs were written by Cliff, plus the lyrics which is why this is the last song credited to him and, obviously, the only one to be so on the Justice album.
    Always gives me goosbumps, ALWAYS!
    EDIT :
    Also...
    James plays a solo in this
    James has the main notes tattooed on his arm (James was the closest to Cliff)
    You're right about not playing it live, they only played ity for the first (and I beleive the only time) back in 2011
    The lyrics were apparantely part of a poem (?) but Cliff used to say this line often, and if I'm not mistaken, it's what's written on his gravestone
    The song ends abruptly reflecting how Cliff's life ended as well.. which is, yes, emotional and beautiful, but really.. musically genious of a composition all over.
    awesome reaction.
    done lol !

    Totally agree. This song is proof that you can express emotion just through instrumentation. The really impressive part is how many different emotions they were able to incorporate into one song and make it flow so beautifully. I think they may have played it live, but very rarely and it was a long time after the fact before they finally did. Edit: No, apparently they did play it live according to older video footage on RUclips.

    The tone of the guitars in this album is to die for.

    • @donavonhoward114
      @donavonhoward114 2 года назад +3

      I agree. To me personally I like the album better how it is, not remixed. It's a guitar centric album, and the tone of the guitars is good enough to carry the sound in my opinion. I guess I am a Justice purist, lol. It still has a heavy bottom end even though the bass is low in the mix. To me some albums are just meant to sound a certain way, even if it doesn't meet a certain criteria that people judge to be good sound. Music is not about every album sounding the same. That's why I love classic Metal albums from every genre, because they all sound different, whereas today most bands have similar tone that they are trying to achieve. Albums like Justice have a certain personality and color to them, and they stick out from the pack. Nothing sounds exactly like the Justice album, just like nothing sounds like Master Of Puppets, or Ride The Lightning. That old school style of unique sounding production qualities is pretty much dead nowadays. That razor sharp saturated guitar tone that cuts like a knife through your soul is my favorite, and in my opinion it's my favorite sounding Metallica album. Justice is all killer, no filler. It's one of the few Metal albums with long songs where every piece of each long ass track just keeps ascending, and continues to get better and better as each track moves along. There are no throw away riffs added for the sake of transitions or flashiness where the listener is left waiting for the next part to arrive. Every track is a banger all the way through.

First, anger, then acceptance, and grief, by the way, the second solo is not Kirk but James, James loved Cliff very much, to this day he remembers him at every concert. I always appreciated Kirk not using wah for his leads in this song. He lost the bet though so you can bet those leads are from the heart. Clifford Lee Burton is an American hero/treasure/whatever. And he brought all that “classical” sound to Metallica. No doubt. Great send off.
