  • The Aussie Fisherman Greg on a mudcrabbing trip in Northqueensland, Australia. I had two big young boys helping and learning.
The first thing was to pull up the crabpot and get it in the boat. Take the mudcrabs out of the pot. There was a female ( jenny ) in the pot in Queensland it is illegal to take female crabs, so we release them.
The male mudcrabs have to be tired up. To stop them from damaging each other before going to the market. Plus to stop them biting us when handling them.
Mark is a great young football player and a nice young fellow as well. So he was first to type tie up a crab. Plus, it was the first time he had tired a mudcrab up. He went really well. Some of my first timers are a bit scared of mudcrabs and don't even want to put their foot on it's back. You can understand why if a mudcrab bites you ,it's pretty painful, and sometimes you will need to go to a doctor.
Charlie is good shot putter, so I had pretty strong boys helping me that day, haha. He has been with me before, so I didn't have to teach him. His crab had lost his claws early in his life and was growing them back. You can see the body is big and the nippers are small. These crabs are usually pretty handy with their nippers, haha. Still, Charlie did a good job.
The boys did a great job that day. I felt guilty not doing all the work like I normally do. All I did that day was tie crabs up and drive the boat.

Hi Jay I not sure about that, haha. It's is so nice to see these young ones having a great time outdoors. I agree it would be great if more young people got out on the water and enjoyed the fishing and mudcrabbing experiences. Fingers crossed cheers Greg 😊.
