Compound V doesn't give you the powers you want, even subconsciously. They're completely random. Most supes get their Compound V injected when they're still in the womb, so they can't even form coherent thoughts yet. They don't want anything; They don't even know what it's like to want something yet. It's just a genetic lottery pool. But it is a neat coincidence you pointed out, I'll grant you that. soldier boy's father was not abusive, he was just disappointed with how his son turned out to be, a literally cheater who took a shortcut to become a man.
Prequels tend not to work, and Soldier Boy's story before being captured doesn't seem compelling enough for a series. He was a marketing tool who was an arrogant, but dominantly powerful supe. If they can make it work, it would be fun to see how.
Man what great acting. That look from 1:58 - 2:00 says so much about his character. Tough as nails but that second of vulnerability, having another human being seeing him teary-eyed scared the hell out of him, the good ole crack in the armor. I think Soldier boy was super well done this season. He's like an anti-captain America, embodying everything harmful to men from that time period. The nuance was on point
Eh, I don't know. I was disappointed with what they did with Peacemaker and keeping him alive. The tone shift of his character was too much for me.and I would not want Soldier boy going down the same route.
Soldier boy's eyes while he is talking about his father are so great, you can tell his pain and resenment to his old man. And the "A real man wouldn't had cheated" was the cherry on top, along side the delivery and the pause where he got lost for a moment.
It's because Soldier boy hates himself so seeing his son turn out just like him was the ultimate disappointment. Soldier boy wanted to raise his children to be better than him.

I love how these characters are portrayed. You can see how having a toxic parent affected them all the way into adulthood. Butchers dad was just a straight up, abusive ahole and soldier boys dad wouldn't love him/be proud of him no matter what he tried.
I speak from experience, my parents did the same to me. Gaslight included, they say i blame others for my problems really. Even though they can't even see their own neglect.
I think the showrunners made him more likeable and charismatic than they intended to. Now a lot of people (me included) love him and want him back. He is for sure a horrible person, but so is Butcher; Soldier Boy has done nothing Butcher hasn't done or could have done before, and he is way less pathetic than Homelander.
The fact that both Homelander and Soldier Boy, the two strongest beings in that universe, respect Butcher as an equal - speaks volumes about his personality.
@@someguy-hc8gi They respect him, but not as an equal. When Homelander first praises Butcher he qualifies it by saying for a normal person. Soldier Boy totally ignores Butcher's reservations until Butcher attacks him.
@@Seasonal-Shadow_4674 How he's written and how his actor plays the role. I'd say Homelander takes the number one spot for the best character, but you can argue that Soldier Boy or Butcher take that, depending on personal preference. Everyone in this show is great.
Soldier boy is the most consistent super and the most consistent character, he's the man that get's the job done. He doesn't slack around, hope he returns same as Noir and they get some character development.
No one talks about the emotional intelligence and introspection Soldier Boy displayed in the finale. When he looks at Homelander, he finally realizes what his father told him all those years ago was correct. And this is why I want a Soldier Boy redemption arc.
My dad was a bodybuilder in the 70's. He constantly came in second place during competitions and would always say the winners were on steroids. I always asked him why he never just did them and always told he didn't want to use crutches and that a real man can't really prove himself that way. He still lifts weights today and refuses to wear those tight weight lifting shirts. I sympathize with Soldier Boy's dad.
I always found it absurd when parents call their children a disapointment. Like, dude, you raised him, it was your duty to shape something out of your child, and you say that it's become a disapointment? It is either you failed as a parent, or you created that disapointment by yourself.
Do you think children always follow what their parents want and they have no agency of their own ? There are so many cases where despite parents raising them well, they turn out to be disappointments.
@@magik97I think it's really easy to think that if a parent thinks they raised their child right but the child turns out to be a "disappointment", that it's the child's fault. But in the end the child & all its decisions it took in life are a direct result of the parent's choice to give birth to them. It may sound very one-sided but I really think that to bring a new life! in this world must bring with it immense responsibility.
SB's talk is genuine. He really wanted to talk to someone, a friend. When I say to my mom that I don't have any friends or something similar she says why do you need friends or you can talk to us, we are your friends. I feel like sometimes you want to to chill with someone and talk to them instead of parents, someone close to your age. To talk about things you can't or don't want to talk with parents. Being alone and to be a disappointment is really bad. I remember when I got high or full marks in high school and brought them to my parents my mom usually would've said that is ok and my dad wouldn't bother or say anything but when I got a bad grade, everyone would've bashed me because of it and told me that I'm a disappointment so I hid them from my parents. I always wanted to make people happy and help others but when people take advantage of your kindness and hurt you, you slowly descend into hating people and being bad. Sometimes it's the world that creates the monster
Man, watching those two act against each other is incredible. Both underrated talents chewing scenery to the best of their ability. It's a joy to watch.
Of all the disappointing things that happened in the season finale, everything that Soldier Boy did was never one of them. He was amazingly well written. Both he and Antony Starr better get some Emmy nominations I stg.
I love how in this show no matter how much of a bad person someone is you can clearly see where all that negative behavior started it is so complex about human interactions with reasons, causes and effects of everything in their life
This is why I like Soldier Boy so much in this show. He has this very human side to him. He's jacked up because of the time he grew up in and the type of father he had. Butcher has a horrible father and even Homelander acknowledges the reason why he's so messed up is because he had no human contact. He was raised in a lab. Soldier Boy needs his own series set in WW2 leading up to his capture.
Ain’t it very funny how butcher said homelander isn’t his son but ryan isn’t butchers son, Ryan is Homelanders son and was pretty much raised in a test tube as well every thing butcher said to soldier boy applied to him as well which is why I’m very surprised the end turned out they way it did.
That was butcher’s character arc the whole season. He’s a hypocrite, it shows in this scene but most importantly, it shows when he took temp v that he is also an unchecked, violent man with power like most of the supes
The dad sounds like Henry ford, if y’all didn’t know, Henry ford made sure to let his son know how weak and privileged his upbringing was compared to his upcoming when he started his car company.
Butcher had no reason to fight with soldier boy. He could've just told soldier boy to wait till Ryan is out of the way. I really felt like soldier boy was the only guy who genuinely bonded with butcher.
They need to make a "The Boys" spin-off with a "Demolition Man" vibe: Soldier Boy is woken up 100 years into the future of "The Boys" timeline to help stop some threat Also, Soldier Boys says "War Department" instead of "Department of Defense". Pretty cool detail, similar to how he said "Shell Shock" in an earlier episode
Grew up in the era of WWII. War Department and Shell Shock were terms that existed during that time until they were redefined as the Department of Defense and PTSD
I wonder if Ryan’s blood is different than other supes because he was born powers and wasn’t injected with V. Imagine Butcher finding out down the line that Ryan could have tanked a blast from Soldier Boy
It's interesting that in the season 2 finale Ryan's laser vision was practically a nuclear blast, while in the season 3 finale it's tuned down to match Homelanders. I'm wondering if that's either a nerf or if the implication is that Homelander could go that full blast if he lost control. Personally I liked the original interpretation, which suggested Ryan would be noticeably stronger.
Yeah and that's why he turned on Homelander at the end, because homelander turned out just like him but he didn't want that for his kids. He wanted them to be better than him but instead homelander became a darker reflection of him.
Apart from The Only Man, man enough to keep his word, Soldier Boy, has the best Dialogue Delivery... Hats off to Jensen Achles....! Started watching Supernatural only for him...!

Neat, but still just a coincidence.
never tough about it but maybe compound V gives you what you truly seek, great detail !
@@diegoelrondon69008 Yah if you remember from past seasons, A-Train was Hughie's favourite superhero, he bought all his merchandise. of course after the pilot episode Hughie despised A-Train.
So the power of homelander are the things who a baby would need?
He can fly, laser everyone with his eyes and can fly
Man that's made even more sad homelander's power, he doesn't choose his power's he just born with it
You can see that he has tears in his eyes when he talks about the way his father treated him. Jensen is such a talented actor i swear
I don’t know if he knew there was a high chance it could be lethal, but if he did Solider Boy literally gambled his life on a chance to make his dad proud.
2:00 is so real. The realisation he just exposed his inner feelings. Great acting. However I don’t remember John ever saying that, Dean?
Soldier boy is not pure evil just a broken person who called himself the "disappointment"
I have to marvel at the consistency of SB and the writing team. I feel like he was the glue of this season, he should be a full timer on the show moving forward. Glad he's not dead.
Same man. I really hope SB somewhat return and settle his beef between Butcher and join The Boys once again. (Would be cool if A-Train come in as well since he's on his redemption arc)
Soldier boy was the best this year. Kept his word and was honorable about it no matter what. This is a very important scene.
The man deserves his own spinoff. The perfect anti-hero for this great show.
yea lets give him a spinoff, where hes fighting monsters and demons and angels maybe? and lets give him a brother, and keep the part about his dad not being there, yea lets just keep that the way it is.....yeeeeea thats a great idea

Soldier boy was definitely an unexpectedly awesome character. This season definitely made you swing back and forth about who you cared for/route for.
But both of them grew up to be very similar to their abusive fathers
SB's father wasn't abusive. He was just focused on his work, neglected his child. That is why SB grew a delinquent with an inferiority complex.
I guess.... soldier boy's father was decent...
i think what his father said about soldier boy cheating is right through
soldier boy's father was not abusive, he was just disappointed with how his son turned out to be, a literally cheater who took a shortcut to become a man.
@@zambiealex8473 You can be abusive without laying a hand on someone.
Soldier boy needs his own spinoff show immediately...just like they did peacemaker
I will vouch for this. Soldier looks legit than Peacemaker.

It's because he respects Butcher. A strong, masculine, ruthless man as he is. It makes sense.
DID respect Butcher.

I’m ok not bringing him back in this story. Give the man his own show, about him coming up as a new hero. I’d watch that in a heartbeat.
While I definitely want to see him back next season I'd be right there with you watching his back story!
Eh, I don't know. I was disappointed with what they did with Peacemaker and keeping him alive. The tone shift of his character was too much for me.and I would not want Soldier boy going down the same route.
0:55 I love how Soldier Boy doesn’t care that Butcher says “Blimey, you don’t say?!” in a sarcastic tone.
Soldier boy's eyes while he is talking about his father are so great, you can tell his pain and resenment to his old man.
And the "A real man wouldn't had cheated" was the cherry on top, along side the delivery and the pause where he got lost for a moment.
I love this foreshadowing, his father calling him a disappointment, then saying he’d be a better father and saying those exact words to homelander
It's because Soldier boy hates himself so seeing his son turn out just like him was the ultimate disappointment. Soldier boy wanted to raise his children to be better than him.
@@Errorvirus404Exactly. That's what people forget.
He wanted to prove he was a better father by raising his children.
Since he didn't he was upset with HL not reaching what he felt was his true potential
@GangstaStan010 i am curious on how homelander wouldve turned out if his dad didnt get betrayed and shipped off to russia.
Id imagine homelander wouldnt be too different, but hed probably be more of a bully and less of a maniac.
I love how these characters are portrayed. You can see how having a toxic parent affected them all the way into adulthood.
Butchers dad was just a straight up, abusive ahole and soldier boys dad wouldn't love him/be proud of him no matter what he tried.
This man needed a whole episode to himself. I hope he gets one next season.
You can see some of Homelander's expressionisms in Soldier Boy in this scene. 1:41 being the most noticeable
Yup Jensen even said he watched Antony’s performance as Homelander closely. 🤌🏻👏🏻
There was another part where his mouth part twitching like HL as well.
The psychology of parenting neglect goes a long way. Never ceases to amaze me how the cycle continues.
I speak from experience, my parents did the same to me. Gaslight included, they say i blame others for my problems really. Even though they can't even see their own neglect.
He was a real man. Neglected his own desires to keep his word to Butcher.
Love the fact that Soldier boy tearing up a bit there. It shows his vulnerability and humanness. Great job making him relatable and likable.
They most certainly do not.

They don't take responsibility for their own mistakes
Jensen's acting in this scene is kind of heartbreaking.
Shame these two couldn’t be friends, they had a lot in common.

What Homelander, Butcher, and Soldier Boy really wanted? not power, fame or revenge. Just love
I love how in this show no matter how much of a bad person someone is you can clearly see where all that negative behavior started it is so complex about human interactions with reasons, causes and effects of everything in their life
There is some solid acting in this series. It’s incredible.
I love how, and surprised no one talks about it, but Soldier Boy trying to bond with Butcher here.
It seems he loves his wife that much.
