      I mean that’s not exactly true, I think he just represses the guilt and distraught he feels, he lets those feelings slip here and there but quickly buries it behind a facade because what he thinks a man is supposed to be and how a man should feel like many men from his time, I think if he was allowed to live in the world left alone with his long life span he’d eventually change, which honestly wouldn’t turn out to bad, give him some land, income, and keep him in the loop, I don’t think SB cares to be in the spotlight anymore after what he’s been through and how the world has evolved without him

      He felt guilty for killing those people when he blacked out tho? It’s very obviously him trying to repress things “like a real man”. He is a good guy who’s out of time and has PTSD and childhood trauma. Legit would be one of the good heroes had he come up in the modern day imo

      He actively bullied and beat his own team members. There was a reason why nobody wanted him around anymore. He probably feels bad for killing those people (maybe, he sure didn't seem to care when he killed MM's family) but he's still far from a good person.

    • @sweetchristmas92
      @sweetchristmas92 7 месяцев назад +113

      @@milliondollarmistakeHis team was pretty pathetic, he probably knew right off the bat, they were scheming scum bags and he took the ultimate Alpha Toxic Male approach to them. Instead of teaching them to be a cohesive team, he beat them senseless thinking it would harden them. SB has a lot of repressed anger because of his own dad, who saw him as a disappointment. His ego got out of control working for Vaught. He’s not necessarily a good guy, but he has more balls, and honor than Payback, who were small timers that unfortunately got in his way. Still doesn’t give him a right to abuse other supes like that, but in this universe it’s almost better off seeing a guy like Soldier Boy beating on super powered losers as opposed to regular civilians who he never intentionally harmed.

      An interesting thought I never considered. They spent a good portion of this season exploring how Soldier boy's father influenced his path in life. The only "positive" example of fatherhood Soldier Boy ever references is Bill Cosby, who turned out to be a rapist. His perceptions are severely warped and perverted. When confronted with the opportunity to be a father figure to Homelander, he steps into his own father's shoes and calls his Homelander, his own "son", a disappointment. Does Soldier Boy see himself in Homelander and that's why he decides to kill him? Extreme narcissism mixed with self loathing forces him to attempt a kind of surrogate suicide. He sees his own reflection and tries to destroy it.

      I wouldn't call Soldier Boy a villain. His goal is to get revenge on those who betrayed him. Pretty much any man whose worth his salt would have the same ambitions if they suffered from a similar series of events.
      As for killing homelander, that's a blessing for the world. So that's something that makes him good. People who say he's a bad guy do so because they can't get past their modern sensibiltiies. Specifically regarding the fact that Soldier Boy used to discipline his team with violence.
      But if you truly want to understand his actions, then you have to understand that Soldier Boy has the mentality of a soldier, and not some modern they/them tiktok soldier but an old school killl or be killed kind of soldier. It was his entire persona, and he lived up to it. Back in the day, if someone in the unit you were in command of mouthed off to you or disobeyed orders, you would hit them with the butt of your rifle stock.
      So, in all fairness, he's just living up to the era he was raised in. Which isn't a bad thing, in fact I'd argue the world needs more men like Soldier Boy, or at least Western Civilization.@@Pioneer5118

But yeah ppl who aggressively project their insecurities like he did in the clip don’t deserve support or sympathy until they’ve decided to stop punching down on others, then we can help them no longer punch down on themselves.
      For more context: he projected onto the man with the baby holder bc hes confused why men aren’t afraid or insecure of being perceived that way, bc soldier boy would def be insecure if he had to wear one, instead of insulting the entire generation of men for ‘not being man enough” (which btw isn’t a real thing, there’s no such thing as masculinity nor a real man bc they’re made up social constructs), he could of just acknowledged the insecurity within him, he has redeemable qualities and was def screwed over a lot but until he stops with the homophobia, toxic/insecure comments and other typical conservative prejudices like the way they treat women, he ain’t getting my sympathy

    Soldier Boy did turn out to be more of a villain in the end but looking at the bigger picture, Homelander is still the much bigger threat. Soldier Boy has no aspirations to take over the world or any desire to rule humanity. He also has a code, twisted as it may be, but it’s better than having none at all like Homelander. I think the team lost sight of who needed to be stopped in the end. Homelander is a raging psychopath that unchecked, could wipe us all out while having a big grin on his face.

    As much as he’s a total piece of shit by today’s standards - Soldier Boy at least regulates his emotions to a point where you almost feel bad for him. Granted , he was still a total douchebag to literally everyone on his team and in general back in the day , but at least he made decisions based on some form of logic. Homelander is just a kid in a candy store mad they don’t have the brand he wants.

      @positiveecho326 7 месяцев назад +6

      Yes. The Boys is based on a comic by Garth Ennis, a writer who notoriously hates superheroes. Nearly every superhero and superhero team in this book is a parody of a preexisting property. Homelander= Superman, The Deep = Aquaman, Atrain = is a parody of the Flash and other speedsters, The Seven = The JLA, etc. The TV show is much better and actually explores the concepts in more depth than the comic books. The comic books are about as deep as a puddle and relies more on shocking their audience than asking them to think.
