I didnt realise the song was called 'Worse than Detroit' I was waiting for an awful performance lol
Same. 😂
same here :)
Imagine just how good the Detroit one must have been!
Hahaha you guys crack me up. You got uncle Phil fucking those skins up. Probably childs play to him but his graesh drums sound great .
😂 me too!...and it's awesome!
Phil Collins is a damn good drummer in my opinion
He's one of the best. He actually has the Bonham groove going here
His drumming on 'Pictures at Eleven' is powerful and effective.
Phil is a lot more damn good than “damn good”!
Phil Collins he is ,pure talent he understood the rudiments of playing drums. He was playing drums for many other performers. Very versatile drummer and can play any style without thinking about it
Collins was not as superhuman as Bonzo was in his playing abilities, in my opinion, but a skilled drummer nonetheless. I do give him credit for supporting Plant though both as a friend and as a musician.
Wow! Robert Plant playing with Pete Townshend and Phil Collins! The Who, Led Zeppelin and Genesis. Amazing stuff!
Also Midge Ure
And Mick Karn !
‘A’ list talent.
Excellent performance! Plant's first 3 solo albums were always so highly underrated.
I know they were some really good pieces cut from those two albums but I think Phil Collins really inspires him to be who he his and move on from Zep. phils drumming in both albums and live performances were awesome.
Sadly his later albums were over-rated with "critics" praising any country twanged crooning shit Plant came out with. I gave up with Fate of Nations or maybe Now and Zen. Can't remember. He could have been more magnanimous with Led Zeppelin and their fans than he was and after many years, he became a drudgery to listen to. He would always talk about doing different things, but Zeppelin sounded different with every album. Half of Robert Plant's solo albums all sound the same and monotonous. Still, I count myself fortunate to have been able to catch Page and Plant twice in concert on those two tours. legendary.
Yes! That’s what I said about pictures at 11 on another video thread. I got the CD playing in my car now
@@davidshallenberger392 i have to agree. i dont like any solo Plant stuff it all sounds the same
@@davidshallenberger392 His first two solo albums are his best IMO
Robbie Blunt is an extremely underrated guitarist.
Ya think
from slide to finger style and everything in between on this one. Did you know he was a childhood friend of Robert, and was in a band called Silverhead with Michael Des Barres
Robert Plant, Robbie Blunt (guitar), Pete Townshend (guitar - lovely Telecaster that is), Phil Collins, Midge Ure (guitar), Mick Karn (fretless bass), and John "Rabbit" Bundrick (keyboards) - quite a talented bunch of blokes! Thanks for sharing this.
dreamband!
isnt that dave formula of magazine on synths in back of pete?
Tbh - I've been watching this video for over 10 years and I never noticed them. I only have eyes for RP apparently!
@@annabellelee180 yeah find
Yeah pretty great combo of players uncle Phil fuckin it up a totally underated player his abilities in those drums are phenomanol. This is child's play to him he could play this in his sleep.
You can't help but get goosebumps when Robert goes off.
Discovering a new video of Mick Karn playing live is like finding a treasure
youre in for a treat, he played the whole prince's trust concert, you can find the individual clips all over yt
@@maxmustardman298 Yeah, there is a playlist made of all of them
Robert has always had a great stage presence. This performance is a great example of his eye and hand motions along with his amazing voice captivating the audience then and now (via RUclips). Rock on RP!
The drummer is the fucking awesome Phil Collins, from the band Genesis.
In the early 80’s , Phil Collins was on just about everyone’s album. I think there was a law passed back then.
Plant with his version of 80s hair.
Glad he grew out of that.
I'm confused. I don't see Plant's chest.
😂😂😂😂
Trueeeeeee
Maybe he was not so fit as in 1973.
I hardly recognized Robert with his famous chest covered. Maybe the Queen was expected. Worse than Detroit is an unfortunate title.
I didn't realize I wasn't the only one who'd (long) admired his chest. :)
Love all of his songs & no matter what he can still sing
All the video focusing on Pete Townshend plinking, sitting in on someone else's song, while Robbie Blunt plays his ass off....
I saw Plant in 1985. Was too far back to get a good look at Blunt. Still don't know what he looked like. This performance is about as close as we are gonna get.
YEP
Robbie was always criminally ignored ... he is a true guitar great IMO !
TheHumbuckerboy : indeed, Robbie was underrated. I remember when Pictures at Eleven came out, a LOT of people thought it was actually Jimmy Page playing under a pseudonym. Thats an accolade right there.......
@@davidpaterson3443 That is certainly an accolade but Robbie definitely brought his own playing style and original compositions to the party !
Thank you, Phil, for jumpstarting Robert from his post-Zeppelin slump.
Collins had a thing for RP, who doesn’t?
34 years and almost 35 years in just a couple of weeks. DAMN, Robert and I have gotten OLDER. I'm a Robert too, so, the two Robs. Pete Townsend. Phil Collins. Plant looked pretty handsome in 82. By 93 he looked pretty old. Well at least the three musicians I can name here are all still alive. Rock on mates.
Plant,Townsend,Collins an insane supergroup.
Don’t forget the great Mick Karn on bass!
Uncle Phil fucking those drums up
Holy crazed combo of players - Mick Karn rockin' the blues onstage with Plant - yowza.
Mick Karn is absolutely phenomenal on this performance. First class performance from a first class bass player!
Robbie Blunt is amazing here. Phil Collins was Robert's tour drummer for that album.
chebrneck Hey Robbie, passed you in 85 ,you are a great musician yourself!
He didn't tour that album.
@@danielratner6810 He toured after the second with Collins. Don’t know how many dates they played. I was 14- my first concert.
Mick Karn on bass.
No better man for the job!
Although I, as a former Detroiter know that the song is about, Missing the woman more than he did in Detroit, I know many think that it's a jab at our City. But I love this video and with Pete playing guitar!
it sounds like the later plant-zeppelin songs, lucky those who saw this live
This is such a good song. Highly underrated! The guitar on the original and here is phenomenal.
I agree with you 👍🏻. No one else I share this with seems to like it as much as I do, maybe I just need to start hanging out with different people, Lol!😅
This album kicks ass
Plant's best solo album IMO
how fantastic! Thank you...goosebumps.
Thank god Robert had that voice and presence. That perm did not cooperate with the stage movements he used during Led Zeppelin. That perm did not cooperate with anything. May it rest in peace.
Great performance by the best!
Plant’s first solo album has sort of been relegated to the dustbin of history, but it’s a record that I’ve always enjoyed. At the time, it was a breath of fresh air and a wise move not to make a “Zeppelin-esque” album. With the exception of Shaken & Stirred, I’ve loved every record he’s made. Always taken the unexpected road.
I appreciate that music a lot more at this stage of my life, than when it was released.
Just proves how talented and diverse he is.
I saw him in 83 ,Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland. Phil Collins, drums. Robie Blunt, lead guitar. AWESOME.
Plant looks and sounds great
AWESOME!!!, Thanks!!!!!
Love this
Robbie Blunt! And Mick Karn!!
Phil is hooking up on the drums and making it look easy..
I never would imagine seeing Midge Ure and Pete Townshend on the same stage, sweet
Harder to believe that Midge toured with Thin Lizzy briefly.
Pete Townsend on rhythm guitar and Phil Collins on drums , What a GOD
Wow. Rockstars from 3 powerful bands are here. This is a nexus point song
All the musicians here are absolutely fantastic!
There was no tour for pictures at eleven...this is the only live performance.
false;Plant toured live in 1983 for promote the album.
@@ced95570 That would have been for The Principle of Moments
@@wjhandy nope
@@mortcola yep
Plant didn't want to do a tour with only 1 album of material, didn't want to touch any Zep. So his first tour was "The Principal Of Moments". I was there in Houston, September 20, 1983, I believe. And Phil Collins was the drummer, and I think Bob Mayo also toured with the band, playing 2nd guitar and/or 2nd keyboard as needed. Great show. Played every song from both albums plus a Bob Marley tune.
Killer slide 🎸
Definition of a Super Group.
0:57 Robert casually wipes a little coke from his nose ... LOL
Buen tema, con esas guitarras blues y Phil Collins en gran formato.🎧🎶👍
Robbie Blunt had to show Pete how’s it’s done.
gawd I loved this version of the band
Plant should have sung Pledge Pin.
Yes, it should have been "glass is half empty".
I don't know who's the bigger diva of this performance. Robert or Townshend! Bad time for manly rock stars.
Stormbringer Coming of course robert plant dude..pete?? hmmm
robbie is a king!
Is that Pete Townsend, on the guitar, and Phil Collins, playing the drums, in the back??
Pete Townsend, Phil Collins, Mick Karn and Midge Ure... so many talents on stage
Mick Karn, RIP
What happened to him ? Didn't he have some musical connection with Kate Bush ?
@@TheHumbuckerboy Sadly, he passed away in 2011. Such an enourmous loss...
I think I found Waldo
haha
Fantastic!!
you have 5 vocalists here as well in this ad hoc group!
MICK KARN on bass!!!!!
The unsung hero (no pun intended) of this fine tune!
Phenomenal Robert here, Pete acting like he's got something to prove
Robert Plant - Pete Townshend - Phil Collins
Almost a supergroup
I dont think plant's solo career was ever as good as he was with led zeppelin.
so Plant played with Collins before live aid failure. This is a good gig, does anyone have the whole show??
Collins played on Robert's first two records, and was a huge part of helping Robert shape his early solo career.
It was actually Robert that brought Collins in for live aid as well.
Robert Plant's body looks like it is on backwards.
Roodi Valentino shit yeah! It’s freaking me out lol!
A badly cut shirt will do that.
Красавчики!!!
l love this song very much much muaacch...
😍Wow so excelente!❤️✨
Also ft. Pete Townshend, Gary Brooker, Midge Ure.
Don’t forget Mick Karn!
@@naxalite115 yes, its correct!
❤❤❤ carlos burdogue que bom curtir o que vivi curtindo na minha vida
Rock é energia valeu
Phil's Gresh set on this sounds really crisp and tuned just right.
ОТЛИЧНО 👋👋👋🔥👍
I was today years old when I realised Phil Collins was a lefty! 🙃Wait is that, Midge Ure? Since found out Kate Bush was on the same bill! Gotta love the internet! 😆
If this were recorded in 2015, it would be "Robert Plant feat. Pete Townsend & Phil Collins"
+bianchi1885 Phil Collins was his permanent band member back then (and quite essential if you listen to the first couple of albums).
+Pan Damasque The drummers during the "Robbie Blunt era" of Plant's post-Zeppelin career weren't really "permanent" per se. I know Phil Collins played drums on 6 of the 8 songs of each of the first 2 albums, but Cozy Powell and Barriemore Barlow played a couple of songs on each of those first 2 albums, and then Richie Hayward played drums on the third and last Blunt era album (Shaken n Stirred). I think Phil Collins played drums on the Principle of Moments tour, but not on the Pictures at Eleven tour.
+bianchi1885 Who's on lead?
Should be Robbie Blunt on lead. But hard to tell, the director is too busy keeping cameras on Robert, Pete and Phil.
+bianchi1885 I don't think there was a Pictures at Eleven tour?
hailing from Detroit...can anyone decipher these lyrics? thx, otto
Nearly missed this pearl cause of the misleading title.
I thought pete hated Zep ? that's what he said
Rick Danner pete is suck man...jealously at ledzepp
agree
Wow
Best song on that first album....
Phil Collins playing on this is superb.
Pete is really tight in this song - amazing. If it had been Jimmy Page it would have been all over the shop. Plant should have done an album with Townshend. It would have been great, they could have called it "LED WHO?"
The 80s were a strange time.
I thought pete townsend hated zep?
+alexander o Pete hates everything. He even spent years hating his own band. He has to be one of the most miserable people in the world.
Which doesn't detract from his brilliance.
that's Pete-y alright M
maybe that's cause at the time nuthin' was goin' on with the who (post moon) and he ended up in this vid
@Greg Hubbard Pete is one of the best guitarist
Pete's lead guitar on "Live at Leeds" is incredible you fucking moron.
True told I used to FF this song on the cassette
Pete Townsend taking the lead guitar for Robert Plant, doesn’t get any better than this!
good, since he hated Zeppelin!
You sure it isn’t Robbie Blunt on lead? Pete was probably playing rhythm. Being that it sounds like Blunt, and he plays on the original studio version.
@@MrRjnr Townsend hated the Zeppelin music, not the members of the band.
@@johnschulenberg7560 yes, that's what I meant...thx!
Midge Ure from Ultravox on gtr.
Such a supergroup like that is impossible today...No hate her, but it feels like that...
Townshend with Plant? What the heck. Didn't know that happened.
MUSICIANS UNITE! WE MUST FIGHT! ALL OTHERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK. WHY DON'T WE? UNITE!
Is that Mick Karn on bass?
+thriftdig yes
+thriftdig oh yes

Tastes so good, sweet as honey, honey
All she carries is impossible to use
It's built for speed, man, watch her coming, coming
Moves so fast in someone else's shoes
Looks so fine, Lord, watch them running
Anything she wants you feel obliged to do
Keep your hands in your pockets
She can shift more gold than the king of Peru
But I don't know, no, I don't know what I'm gonna do
No, I don't know, no, I don't know what I'm gonna do
Somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody, yeah
Somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody, yeah
Man drinks whisky, drive him crazy in time
Woman sits and cries as day will follow day
Man need lovin', keep him happy sometime
Woman gets some when the honeydripper's on his way

What I'm gonna do
But I don't know
But I don't know

Драммер Філ Коллінз?
Robbie Blunts guitar stuff on the first two Plant albums were great, perfect for Robert after Zep.
Pete Townsend looking an utter tool. Pete seems and seemed to hate everyone back then as he does now.
man almost didn't recognize Townshend
Esta no me la se

Where in the World is (Waldo) Robert?
June 1982....
gretsch drums sound beautiful here.
Macaulay Culkin sure can play that bass.
Meh. Not one of the better songs off Pictures at Eleven. If he'd have done Slow Dancer or Burning down one side, he'd have blown the roof off the place.
I love all the songs off that album. Saw him on that first tour. Plant was blessed with the good hair gene.
I don't know why the caption says "Worse than Detroit"?
That is the name of the song.
Pete townsend on guitar ?
