I saw these guys on their No Quarter tour by accident... lol... Somehow my girlfriend confused Page & Plant for Robert Palmer (Of Addict to Love fame) and bought us tickets to what she thought was going to be a Robert Palmer show... I was just trying to be a good boyfriend and was just along for the ride. I had no idea she made a mistake and actually bought us tickets to see Page & Plant until the show start.... lol... she was pissed... lol... i was thrilled!!!!
This is great. Imagine not knowing you're going to see one of the greatest guitar player & singer combination of all time thinking your going to see Robert Palmer and then being hit in the face with Led Zeppelin music all night.... well played good sir... I think she was fucking with you though and keeping it a surprise...
The Egyptian ensemble, the dark timbres, the inimitable guitar playing of the one and only Jimmy Page, vocals Robert Plant can only produce, and we have here and the other collaborations they did a masterpiece. Cannot stop listening. Thanks for posting.
This tune was introduced over 50 years ago. How much music that bands play now will be heard 50 years from now? They were a masterpiece!! There is only one Led Zeppelin and no band has ever compared to them and never will be. I am thankful I grew up on their music when times were much different then today. I still am old school and only listen to music from my past, in the 70s. I have not found any music that compares to that era. Guess I'm old and stubborn, but that's the way it is and my taste in music at 64 will forever be old school.
I can remember watching this on TV. My wife was at work at the airport. We were in our first new apt together, a year married at this point. and I couldn't believe what I was seeing because no one ever thought this would or could even happen.
I'm 54 and was introduced to Led Zeppelin at the age of maybe 5 or 6 due to neighbors' teenagers blasting the Zep out of their homes. Nothing better. "Friends" still has that boogie-ish style to it.
Jimmy Page, because of you and Robert Plant, that created Led Zepplin, my life changed forever, at 10 years old i heard a Whole Lotta Love that was it i was hooked, and for the last 40 years or so your music has been in my life as well as my kids i want to thank you for being such an insperation in my life.
Bert Gonzalez Oh Yea , I stumbled on to ' em ( sober ) messing with my brother's reel to reel recordings , stuff brought back from his time in Vietnam ( USAF ) That was 1969 , I was 12 . Their music has been to me about as good as it gets . Even in their later years the sounds they produce are great ! I often wish we could go through some of those years again ! Good Times Bad Times .
Wow...what a wonderful, haunting song from LZ3. This is the only other version I have ever heard. I am surprised that so few have viewed this since Feb 2010. Thanks for posting this and the many others...from a Zep fan since 1975...
I've heard this song 1000 times before. Never have I broken into tears like tonight! This song is packed with sooo much emotion. "The greatest thing that you ever can do now, is trade a smile with someone who's blue now." Truly, a smile costs you nothing and brings so much to those around you. God bless you, Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and (RIP) John Henry Bonham! Thank you, @HammerInMyOnionHead for uploading this! You made my night.
This was a FANTASTIC Project by Jimmy and Robert, The whole production of bringing all these great musicians together and making it work so MAGNIFICENTLY is what makes them so Revered, they truly are a MASTERCLASS ⭐️🌞👊❤️
I wish I would be there.Jimmy Page you are the God of rock history according to me.I am proud of myself cos I met and chat you and Robert Plant,Michael Lee (RİP) after your concert in İSTANBUL in 1998.I keep the record cover (Led Zeppelin 3) which I boughht in İtaly in 1980 and signed all of you.Sorry for poor English.
This is a true revelation for so many reasons -- this is certainly not the usual "aging glory hound rockers" rehashing their old hits for nostalgic paunchy fans! This shows true musicians finding a new way to show the song in a context that actually indicates where the original riff and atmosphere could have come from! This whole concert was brilliant!
I used to lie awake in bed with the headphones on after I smoked some hash outside in my Folks yard and listen to this. What a fabulous rendition of one of my favourite tunes.
I was 10 in 1976 I used to sit in the living room when everyone was out of the house put the headphones on and just jam my older brothers zep albums I remember just getting lost in music.
Bright light, almost blinding Black night, still there shining I can't stop, keep on climbing Looking for what I knew Had a friend, she once told me "You got love, you ain't lonely" Now she's gone and left me only, looking for what I knew Mmm, I'm telling you now The greatest thing you ever can do now Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now It's very easy, just- Met a man on the roadside crying, Without a friend, there's no denying You're incomplete, they'll be no finding Looking for what you knew. So anytime somebody needs you Don't let them down, although it grieves you Some day you'll need someone like they do Looking for what you knew Mmm, I'm telling you now The greatest thing you ever can do now Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now It's very easy just Oh, yeah My, my My, my My, my My, my I'm telling you now The greatest thing you ever can do now Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now It's very easy It's very easy It's very easy It's easy-easy, yeah, yeah
Although adding a new layer and giving exposure to other musicians, still I can't help to think that it takes all those many to equate to JPJ and Bonaham.
The drummer has a tabla and dagger on top of his drum kit and he is not playing them properly. He’s banging on them as if they were bongos. Tabla is played with finger tips and palms. He should maybe have done his homework. I’m sure he fooled a lot of people but real tabla players are either appalled or laughing at him.
I've been feeling nostalgic lately and was thinking about one of the greatest concerts I had ever been to, decided to check RUclips and here it is! No Quarter tour was a highlight and I have seen Zep a few times before this one, but this was magical and powerful!
@LeeVaiM I think it is the Egyptian Nee (pronounced 'Nay'). Indeed a beautiful sound. If you like Arabic music, have a listen to Muhammad Abdo an Arabic singer. You may not understand the words, however, his songs and music are beautiful and legendary (he is still alive). The late Umm Kulthum was an Egyptian female singer, again legendary.
everything is more than perfect in this interpretation of a Zeppelin clasic, thanks to Robert and Jimmy for this, a gem, only one thing missing , the high pitch voice that was like the soul of the song
"Without a friend you're incomplete, there's no denyin' "... Not an nice old song, but an old truth, on a very good song... Take saha, saheet Plant and Page !!!!
Listening to this tune now I think about You, my Friend. Without you, sleeping beauty, I'd be incomplete... because you've touched my heart... very deep inside.
Woah, why does it keep going in and out of tune? Sounds pretty bad if you ask me. Jimmy's guitar sounds like a disaster. Like it's out just enough to stand out like a sore thumb. And hes not even playing it right to begin with. If he was, then wheres the 3-2-0 parts? You guitar players know what I'm talking about.
I saw this tour at one of the last show's at Boston Garden - Last minute - my older brother Mike had an extra ticket - one of THE best shows I've ever seen! Forever love for Page & Plant
Robert has always , I mean always been true to the song. When they did the O2 Concert , one of his conditions was no ten minute guitar solos. Thank God he did that. I look back on all the old , live Zeppelin material , and I think how much better it would have been , had the song been closer to the original.
@MegaColin69 Yeah, goes to show ya that critics don't know shit. Seems they dogged my boys just because of their off-stage shenanigans druing their early tours here in the states. Fuck 'em! We, their admirers, know best...there's no greater rock band in history and never will be.
Me in 1994: "God they look old." Me in 2012: "God they look young."
They look delicious is what they look like. Especially Jimmy YUM.
Legendary comment
@@LyraKeltica61 From a male fan perspective, that made me gag :P
So true! I look older too!
Thank for that chuckle
Who cares what they "look" like man, feel the gods they are in this one. That is timeless.
Coolest song in c major
Pagey's wailin' on that low string real nice
does anyone know the maqam in the beginning?
I saw these guys on their No Quarter tour by accident... lol... +MrBodisha Zeppelin are the best no comparison.
+MrBodisha God loves great music and spared you from Palmer!!!
it was in 1995
greatest short story EVER!!!
This is great. You summed it up man. I'd forgotten about this performance of Friends.

Bout 22 years and I can rem that night on MTV like it was yesterday. it was that kind of moment.
JESUS.
I'm 54 and was introduced to Led Zeppelin at the age of maybe 5 or 6 due to neighbors' teenagers blasting the Zep out of their homes. Nothing better. "Friends" still has that boogie-ish style to it.
bro your profile pic is necro. you clearly have a diverse music taste.
"Friends" is my favorite song. I also love " In the light."
In the Light is one of my favorites too
Two songs that were never played live often enough :(
An absolutely brilliant song that I just had to play around with and add some drums: Enjoy! 🤩

Zep III was such an underrated album, I wish Page played more acoustic; it sounds great.
Music is universal and brings people together .. Bravo Plant and Page.. .. greetings from Egypt
"The greatest thing you ever can do now
is trade a smile with someone who's blue now." 💙
Jimmy Page is a genius....these chord changes!
This was a FANTASTIC Project by Jimmy and Robert, The whole production of bringing all these great musicians together and making it work so MAGNIFICENTLY is what makes them so Revered, they truly are a MASTERCLASS ⭐️🌞👊❤️
the string section and native instruments really compliment this song. Awesome version!

Listening to this just after i smoked some hash with my friends outside in the garden. Cheers!
Did it yesterday night after enjoying some on my own yard. That sound and specifically this song is timeless, inspirational and simply amazing.
I love to see music from my region mix with one of my favorite bands, love it!
Agreed!
love the Egyptian sound!
I love the strings too
would you please upload the complete concert? Kashmir is the greatest end!!!
just great
Awesome good to see Jimmy is with Robert !!! FRIENDS TO THE END !!!✌❤🇺🇸🇬🇧😉✈🌎🎤😄
Bright light, almost blinding
Black night, still there shining
I can't stop, keep on climbing
Looking for what I knew
Had a friend, she once told me
"You got love, you ain't lonely"
Now she's gone and left me only, looking for what I knew
Mmm, I'm telling you now
The greatest thing you ever can do now
Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now
It's very easy, just-
Met a man on the roadside crying,
Without a friend, there's no denying
You're incomplete, they'll be no finding
Looking for what you knew.
So anytime somebody needs you
Don't let them down, although it grieves you
Some day you'll need someone like they do
Looking for what you knew
Mmm, I'm telling you now
The greatest thing you ever can do now
Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now
It's very easy just
Oh, yeah
My, my
My, my
My, my
My, my
I'm telling you now
The greatest thing you ever can do now
Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now
It's very easy
It's very easy
It's very easy
It's easy-easy, yeah, yeah
I wish John Paul Jones was there. Still baffled by that.
HE SINGS WITH A PASSION THAT COMES FROM HEART, AND FOR THIS REASON HE IS MY SWEETIE PRINCE..
bookguitarguy Guy, you don't know me and I don't know you... shut up.
Stella Capparelli right on Stella.he's my prince too!
Joe Flip Ok, we are Robert Plant's fans. Lol :-)
Stella Capparelli Mine too! His gorgeousness is eternal. 😊💙💫
I came to this page because Robert Plant said it was a 'pretty good bootleg' of one of his favorite performances in an interview he just gave to WFUV.
This tour was amazing. We were lucky to see it.
Love Page and Plant with the Egyptian Orchestra the sound is amazing...
Fans of Jimmy's Eastern-influenced acoustic work might like a vid I just posted: "Rosetta West - Yallah." Hope you like it, and Happy Halloween!
the mixture of rock with this native music is awesome
To create a song in the woods of Snowdonia - and have it need this many people to kick it up a notch says a lot - great version
I love the Egyptian Ensemble
Yeahhhh I saw them. In 1995 at. Mexico city. Unforgetabble.
Wow!!! This is awesome!
Although adding a new layer and giving exposure to other musicians, still I can't help to think that it takes all those many to equate to JPJ and Bonaham.
"Whithout a friend there's no denying." I agree.
The drummer has a tabla and dagger on top of his drum kit and he is not playing them properly. He’s banging on them as if they were bongos. Tabla is played with finger tips and palms. ...and yet 99% of women would be in line for Page, Plant or Keith. You on the other hand enjoy an evening with your hand.
How does he do this - RP's voice becomes an instrument.
I feel like im in another civilisation or dimension
everything is more than perfect in this interpretation of a Zeppelin clasic, thanks to Robert and Jimmy for this, a gem, only one thing missing , the high pitch voice that was like the soul of the song
Do Yourself a favour Listen to Jeff Buckley's 'Grace'.
This is the worst version I've ever heard.
Today was the first time I heard this song...thank you SO MUCH for uploading this.
"Without a friend you're incomplete, there's no denyin' "... Not an nice old song, but an old truth, on a very good song...
Take saha, saheet Plant and Page !!!!

One word says it all...Thank You
Listening to this tune now I think about You, my Friend. Without you, sleeping beauty, I'd be incomplete... because you've touched my heart... very deep inside.
Still think about u J ! True friendship, right ?
Even if Skype doesn't work for me anymore, a nightmare to fix it (and it's not done !!!). Still love u
Lovely! Has a classical Persian sound. Fab!
THANKYOU sooo much for posting this rendition!! IMO it's better than the studio version, this has the darkest undercurrent I practically live for.
Saw them in 94. Never forget how they Rock.#1
11 people has no way to share life with me :D
love this page & plant with the egyptian ensemble!! thanks for uploading!!
63 as of 7-4-19 🇺🇸 people that have an emptiness in their life ! 😢

Friends by Led Zeppelin way back in 1970 the new version of 1994 is still better these days ah the living legend ..........
Gotta love that drummer's face at the very end...says a lot IMAO.
As usual when Page & Plant get
together
Incredible
Seen them in 98 dead center floor seats. The best concert i have ever been to.
Hossam Ramzy!!!😊💙
I saw this tour at one of the last show's at Boston Garden - Last minute - my older brother Mike had an extra ticket - one of THE best shows I've ever seen! Forever love for Page & Plant
You can tell this is 90s, when people played plastic Ovation guitars
Robert has always , I mean always been true to the song. When they did the O2 Concert , one of his conditions was no ten minute guitar solos. Thank God he did that.
I look back on all the old , live Zeppelin material , and I think how much better it would have been , had the song been closer to the original.

This for me is Celtic folk at its zenith this be what the druids played listen to page is the master his guitar so wild so free❤
I have never liked LZ live. Looks Like they are another one group. Maybe LZ songs were too altered un studio.
Holy Cow, this is a really cool arrangement.
Lo mejor de lo mejor!!! es claro que es musica para pocos....
This is a Jam!!!
Thank you for Sharing -Friend!!!!
Dude nodding at the end, "yeah, that was alright."
The intro would be good to open Kashmir with...
They looked old to me in 1975 but they look good for old men now
There's a reason the song is called four sticks
Canımsın robert jimi
Amazing how classical music can complement rock music
John Paul's not there, but at least they have Ron Jeremy playing bongos...
espectacular!!!
Outstanding, magic!
Нарадзились Музыками!
Robert Plant looks stoned to the bone.
Oh my untouchable! Wooohooo❤😂
