This sounds like it's about growing up and trying to soldier on in the wake of betrayed expectations. Broken promises, lost direction, getting older and finding out the world isn't the wonderful place you thought it was. "catching the sun" sounds like soldiering on and trying to find a dream worth living for in a world that's let you down.
I like Oasis songs, but when i hear Noel's solo stuff i realize that he hasn't lost his touch, in fact, he has evolved and his music preserves that authenticity, honesty and transparency that comes from his soul. This guy born for this and is timeless.
It's impossible to experience the aching nostalgia of the mid 90s Britpop era for someone who wasn't born then. But if they listen to this song, eyes closed, volume to max, they'll come close. So very close.
It’s only like 9 years old, you’re talking like it was made in the 60’s 😂 great songs and great song writers never date, it’s why live forever is constantly being discovered by new generations.
As a person who loves and appreciates art, I’m proud of you and all of us the still have a grounding of song-man-ship during these tumultuous times … in mankind
How can a man who keeps on cursing and at odds with his brother come up with these thoughtful lyrics? Where does he get his inspiration? NOEL GALLAGHER...one of the greatest lyricists of all time!
It's funny because this song was recommended to me on Spotify before I knew who Noel Gallagher was, before I knew about Oasis and everything. And for sure, this song haunted me, caught me off guard and hugged me with its beam of nostalgia and magic
The long awaited and jaded blessing of a sound that's moved on far beyond the scope of modern media. Here's to the ones who find it, those of us who keep it forever. Long live good music!!
At first he was dismissed, then came Def Maybe and he was lauded as a one-album wonder. Then came Morning Glory and he was praised as a songwriter, but set within his era. Then came Standing on the Shoulder of Giants and he was deemed one of the best British songwriters of all time. Then came the follow up albums and Oasis' legacy and he was considered one of the best songwriters of his generation. And then came the High Flying Birds' self entitled album and Noel was labeled a genius. And now, we have Chasing Yesterday; which has cemented Noel Gallagher as LEGEND.
Idk how to describe it, but I love the surrounding sound? The pulse of the piano? The way “we’ll fight the dying of the light and we’ll catch the sun “ sounds? The way the whole song sounds like a distant dream? ugh i love it sm It gives me the same vibe as hearing the morse code on Oasis songs
I just discovered this song and I love it! I’m so happy he continued making music after oasis and to have a beautiful song such as this. Let’s get covid over and play in the USA Noel!
behind me lie the years that i misspent.. *lots of regret there or maybe just a revelation.. Noel..noel..noel.. you've always great with lyric, what a brilliant!! Solid!!
As a single man struggling for finding my way toward future. Working out and confronting my fails every challenge. And I know things are never going to be fully satisfied. Noel's words have been helping me not to be wasted.
***** oh my god it's like you can't know a band and not know the name of the people in the band. i know a lot of bands but i don't fucking know the actual names of the people in them. oasis is a very famous group but i don't fucking know their names. just like i know arctic monkeys but i don't know their names. or, the weekend, awolnation, kings of leon, the xx, gorillaz, daft punk, mgmt, linkin park etc etc etc for ex i'm sure you have heard of one direction but maybe you don't know the name of the people in the group, right? so????????????????? fuck off??????????????
+Lawlliets _ You said you found Noel's music through Assassin's Creed. Could you mention the details? I'm curious. Sorry for bothering for an old post though.
Subhajit Das What do you mean? haha They used one of his songs in the trailer for the new Assassin's Creed game, so I just looked it up and checked out more of his music.
I think this is my favourite set of songs from NG in a long time. I'd happily never have another Oasis album because the Gallaghers' solo work has been so stellar.
I've been really sceptical when it comes to Noel's solo material so I've never dared to listened to it. Now that I've listened some of the songs I realise that these are absolutely brilliant. One of the most important songwriters of his time without a doubt.

genius songs 💎❤️
love em 💎❤️
I personally, think Noel has got even better with writing over the years
Definitely.
I agree - the music has evolved from anthemic to something more profound
Disagree. He can still pull of amazing melodies like this but when you compare it to the complexities of DLBIA, it is not even close
this is one of the best songs I've heard in 10 years.
Clay Lancaster Absolutely
Are you only 10 years old?
What I see that music n lyrics Ottis song continuously depicts the personal agony of every living person/entity.
Me too

Another masterpiece from Noel
It's impossible to experience the aching nostalgia of the mid 90s Britpop era for someone who wasn't born then. But if they listen to this song, eyes closed, volume to max, they'll come close. So very close.
How true my friend great times indeed.
❤
Has anyone else teared up listening to this song ? Especially when thinking how fast adulthood came. Then, one day, you’re 39.
For sure. And now i feel myself and alive when i thought about this and the music. Suddenly, you are yourself. Its a strange feeling.

The Chief!!

As a person who loves and appreciates art, I’m proud of you and all of us the still have a grounding of song-man-ship during these tumultuous times … in mankind
Gives me chills. Love this song and the atmosphere it has. Once again Noel made the perfect song
How can a man who keeps on cursing and at odds with his brother come up with these thoughtful lyrics? Where does he get his inspiration?
NOEL GALLAGHER...one of the greatest lyricists of all time!

one of the best, magical songs written ever
One of the best songs I've ever heard. Simply perfect. Not possible to write better song. It's sure.
On such shitty times , Noel is among the rare remaining artists who can write pure magical lyrics pouring straight from the heart ....
this is one of his best yet
Yh
Hell yeah.
ikr
Couldn't stop listening to this track over and over !! Love you Noel!! Noel (GOD) Bless you
Noel is certainly one of the best contemporary, or all-time, best music writers. He has great arrangements with intriguing lyrics.
I was told the streets were paved with gold
and there'd be no time for getting old when we were young...
That's got to be a Jam Reference
One of the best Noel songs.

The long awaited and jaded blessing of a sound that's moved on far beyond the scope of modern media. Here's to the ones who find it, those of us who keep it forever. Long live good music!!
the man is the king of melancholy

👍👍👍
Seems like Noel hasn't finished yet.
Nope it's got great songs on it. Fuckin in the bushes, Go let it out, Gas panic, Where did it all go wrong, Sunday morning call and Roll it over.
il brano che rappresenta la mia viya in questo merdoso periodo, Semplicemente un capolavoro. Grandissimo Noel.
I feel like these kinds of videos are better for Noel coz its more about appreciating the music and less about acting out a story
HF TL not his choice, as long as he's tied with a label he's gonna have to make videos.
Hes said himself he hates videos
Daniel Elsegood Not anymore, Noel is the label of his own records since oasis, Sour Mash records
HF TL Im agree. Ironically his solo videos are much better than Oasis videos. But thats my opinion.
This is a gorgeous piece of music.... This is just gorgeous...
This song "makes me I want to cry..." My favourite song!!!

This song is just breathtaking
Heard this when it was released 5 years ago and didn't care for it so much, but I've recently realised its brilliance. It is a great song.
By far the best song on the album.
Poignant words and phrasing of the song!
Atmospherically brilliant!
