- A live, semi-improvised jam, all on hardware, and inspired by the creative limitations of Fugue Machine. This is my first foray into iPad-sequencing territory, and I'm impressed with how unlike Fugue Machine is to anything else I have. I'm looking forward to composing more with it.
Alexandernaut Fugue Machine (on an iPad) - sequencer
Novation Peak - slow, high thing
Arturia MicroFreak + Empress Zoia - faster arp thing
Dreadbox Hades + Meris Mercury 7 - melodic thing
Behringer Model D + OTO Bam - bass thing
Written and recorded within a 24-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

I proper zoned out there for about 5 mins. Magical stuff
Dude. That was absolutely stunning....emotive, complex and beautiful. wow
Its just awesome what you are doing with the FugueMachine. Thanks for sharing.
Mind is officially blown! Great use of iPad and hardware synths. Want to hear what you come up with next.
This was absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing 🖤
Beautiful. I bought an iPad MIDI interface and the fugue machine because of this video.
Okay for realsies that was really great! You have cool stuff and actually are making some very cool stuff with that stuff yeah!
Just heard this again after a year and still love this trak 😀👌🎹🎛🎹
A-men to that . Quality always ages well .
Beautiful. I’ve tried the Fugee before but never got to anything that really made sense. This is superb.
This was magical! Liked and Subscribed 30 seconds in, I've seen a couple of your Micro Freak jams and you've got some great ideas. Keep it up, love from Australia ❤🦘
Top notch! It actually never occurred to me to split the outputs of different playheads in Fugue Machine. There’s really nothing else like it.
Wow. This is really really really beautiful. Kudos! 👾
That’s gorgeous. Thanks for sharing 👍
Wow! It really does create a "Fugue" sounding piece. Very nice Mr Hosking.
Beautiful and interesting setup!
Sounds great man, i also have the fugue machine very nice app indeed 🙂
Awesome! And thanks for the detailed explanation of the process! 👍
Great song/jam and wonderful use of Fugue!
This is excellent, beautiful piece.
I just went on a like spree through your videos. What a journey. Keep it up!
Just received a MicroFreak in the mail for my 11 year old sons xmas present..ordered it off of the back of watching this channel and it's wonderful Jams..good job, my son will be well chuffed I'm sure.
This is so lovely to hear! I'm sure he'll be excited, yeah. Really flexible and fun synth!
Not So Quiet That’s great! It is so nice to have a choice of affordable instruments these days to spark our children’s curiosity and creativity. When I was 11, all I had was a real piano... 🙁
@@valdiskrebs566 It really is an awesome era for entry-point synths!
Not So Quiet Here is a great short demo of the MicroFreak - ruclips.net/video/SzBlIzs4rXw/видео.html
It really sounds much better with something like this: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VD400--behringer-vd400-vintage-delay-pedal
wow! this is stunningly beautiful brother!
loving this!
I do love a good fugue
Indulging rarely feels this awesome.
Stunning! Melodically so inspiring from a classic sequence arrangement. Chapeaux!
I think I've listened/watched this at least a dozen times or more since discovering it a few weeks ago. I love it! So inspiring... I recently got an iRig Duo and Fugue Machine and have been experimenting with those and my synths. Hopefully I can reach this level soon!
Basking in the Glory your Hoskingianna 😭🤗☝️💛
I love your music very beautiful congratulations my friend!!!!!!!!!!
That is awesome! I love how you showcase the hardware with a inspiring performance. Can‘t wait for more
I am hearing some Interstellar soundtrack vibes. :) Very well done!!
I think this is your best. So far....
what the heck did just watch.. mind blown!
love it! Thanks for also explaining the process.
Wow this my cup of tea love this 🤩🤩🎛🎹🎛🎹
Amazing sound, keep it up!
The whole thing is fantastic, but the section starting around 5:25 where you slowly open all of your filters and bring them back down again is pure magic.
Hey thanks! I was thinking of cutting it short, but like you, I think the last section of the song is the most interesting.
You did it, fantastic,I almost crying I swear.
Fantastically creative and inspirational.
Dude I love watching your jamming. It’s beautiful and very well realized! Peace Christo 👽🐕🛸🎶☮️💀🙏❤️
Some day we will talk about you scoring something fo me I promise. Peace Christo 👽🎶🐕🛸💀🙏❤️✌️🎹
So beautiful !!
que hermosura amigo, lograste un ambiente precioso, realmente hermoso
This guys a synth god
god gear more
Yup
Squarp Pyramid MK2 MIDI and CV sequencer....the most powerful I know of for tweaking on the fly and not. I will probably be going with 1010Music Black Box for sequencing and adding sampled music to my music and trashing my Akai MPX16.
Love a good Fugue Machine session. That's a fun app.
ok, ran into you in a RUclips 'rabbit hole'... Deff. am subscribing.... Nice work!
Very nice! Try midiSTEPs, very simple, four 64 step tracks (MIDI channels). Each track can be set to it’s own length and instrument. You have to write your own line of counterpoint for each track giving you more musical control than FM. Tracks of various lengths create evolving soundscapes. What are you using for MIDI-out from the iPad?
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll try it out tonight.
MIDI out is via the iRig Duo!
Jay Hosking Yeah, I use the iRig Duo also. I have used the Keystep and MIDI Thru box at times.
Two years later, still using this? or are there better iOS sequencers? what did you use for midi out on iPad?
Beautiful
Straight to orbit !
Cool atmosphere! big thumb and sub ;-)
Hi! Loving your videos! Curious how are you finding OTO Bam in comparison to other reverb pedals in your arsenal. I noticed you also have Strymon and Empress, Eventide reverb pedals. Curious if you’d be willing to share your experience with OTO Bam. Thanks!
The Bam sounds nice, but I ultimately sold it because I found myself reaching for (in order) the Empress, Eventide, and Strymon pedals instead. Still, if it's the particular colour you're looking for, it might be for you. For me, I don't have as much nostalgia for its algorithms as I thought I might. Best of luck!
@@JayHosking thanks so much! - empress being your favorite? (Just making sure)
One more question, if you don’t mind: Empress Reverb vs Empress Zoia - is the stand alone reverb unit worth it in your opinion vs using a reverb algorithm on a Zoia? Thanks again!
Love this 🍀
Fantastic sequencing of some beautiful sounding gear..!
Inspiring
The mercury is awesome
Awesome, definitely worth a listen, or five
very cool stuff: could you do a video sometime to show how you connect stuff? (not specifically this setup, but any)
I haven't really done any tutorial-type videos in the past, but I've been toying with the idea of eventually starting a modest patreon with the focus on synth and hardware basics. If that ever happens, I'll be sure to announce it here. Thanks kindly!
thank you
Very very nice
Slick!

What iPad are you using and what size GB?
Beautiful jam session. The Fugue looks really good
The small iPad that was new last year. I can't remember the size of the drive space, off hand. And thanks!
@@JayHosking Thanks
There are so many gearheads on YT who own every piece of kit known to man and can't play a damn thing. You are not one of those people. Wow.
Wow! awesome!
LOOOVE IT
Desktop of Dreams
For some 8+ minutes i was in Heaven . . . thanQ Jay . . . aaannnd SUB
What kind of utter morons could possibly thumbs down this beautiful piece of music?.... people never cease to amaze me, going in both directions... Im a guitar player that is not proficient at playing keys so I will be procuring the NDLR to control all my synths soon. Thankyou for the inspiration!
Take heart in the fact that in 52K views and counting , 20 people went thumbs down . If this was politics , this track would be more popular than anyone in history .
Very Nice!
Hello Jay!🙋❤👌
What are playing from the Ipad. Is it some synth? I so much want to know, how to sync some of Android synth with other hardware devices(synths) by midi or usb? What I need to buy, may be some
Usb to midi host or else? Help me please.
The iPad app is a sequencer (called Fugue Machine) that's controlling all the hardware synths; it's making no sound. For MIDI out, I use the iRig Pro Duo. Not sure what there may be for Android, but best of luck!
Why do you think that with Android this connection will not work? How long have you been creating music for fun and where did you start? Thank you.
+JayHosking What did you use to hookup Fugue to MIDI ?
What hardware piece do you use to convert the USB MIDI from the iPad to DIN MIDI? I couldn't quite tell.
I chose the IK Multimedia iRig Pro Duo, because it gave me both MIDI in/out and also stereo in/out (if I ever decide to use audio to/from the iPad). Worked straight out of the box with Fugue Machine.
How do you connect the iPad to the Hardware? Thanks in advance.
With the IK iRig Pro Duo!
Wonderful:)
How would you compare Fugue to NDLR? They seem to function in a similar manner.
Fugue Machine's notes are limited to being more or less the same on all devices, although you can change the octave, change the playback speed and direction, and invert the scale. The NDLR has four distinct parts with independent parameters, and the drone, pad, arp1, and arp2 can be doing many different things. The NDLR gives you more flexibility overall and is excellent for polyphonic devices and for ambient music, whereas I prefer Fugue Machine for the weird, almost kaleidoscopic symmetry it creates in composition.
you've been dancing with mr. brownstone

flight of the valkyries trance
Love this man, what midi interface are you using for the iPad?
The iRig Pro Duo. And thanks!
How the fugue control all instruments by midi solutions? I don't understand
Each of the four tapeheads on Fugue Machine is set to a different MIDI channel out. This info goes from the iPad to the iRig Duo, and from there into the MIDI thru splitter, and from the splitter to the different devices.
Wonderful piece. How do you midi from the iPad?
I used the iRig Duo, but iRig also has a MIDI only out. And thanks!
You are my idol. And I’m jealous of that Hades synth. They’re really hard to come by. Are you on insta and Twitter so I can follow?
On Twitter as @DocHosking, but that is as much about science and fiction (my other lives) as about music. And thanks!
@5:17 when 3 of the heads like up on the iPad. Sounds like Interstellar, great stuff man.
+Jay Hosking, I'd like to sample this, chop it up, and use it at a gig I'm playing in Feb. I'm not getting paid at all. I'll credit you, of course. If you object, just let me know. I will respect your wishes. Nice work !!!
i call this, pull your own head off noise
ничего так завернули
at points the peak part was a lil piercing. the part at 4:16 tho is great. Overall well done
F that "indulging me." Very rude.
too much reverb
NOT VERY MUSICALI
You need q tips.
Not if you do not get music, but try swimming, or maybe crossfit 🏊♂️
Thank you🙏🏽
awesome as always.
